FENTON RODE CLEMENT MOTORCYCLES AS ILLUSTRATED IN THE HAND COLOURED FRAMED GAMY- MONTAUT PRINT WHICH COMMEMORATES THE VICTORY (43 X 73.5 CM) TOGETHER WITH THREE GOLD MEDALS (22.2 GRAMS) AND FOUR SILVER MEDALS ALSO FORM PART OF THIS LOT. (PROVENANCE BY FAMILY REPUTE) FENTON WAS IN CHARGE OF TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS FOR THE PRINCE OF WALES (LATER EDWARD VIII) AND RECEIVED AN MBE FOR HIS SERVICES. BETWEEN THE WARS WHILE LIVING IN FRANCE HE WORKED FOR HOTCHKISS MOTORCARS. A MEMBER OF THE FRENCH AUTOMOBILE CLUB HE WAS A MONTE CARLO RALLYIST FOR MANY YEARS, HE REMAINED IN FRANCE DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR. IMPRISIONED BY THE GERMANS, ONE OF HIS DAUGHTERS (NORA, MARRIED TO A FRENCH ARMY OFFICER) MANAGED TO PURSUADE THE GERMANS THAT FENTON WAS IRISH! HE WAS RELEASED AND TOOK ON A SENIOR ROLE WITH THE HOTCHKISS FACTORY IN SAINT DENIS, PARIS, ONLY RETURNING TO ENGLAND ON THE FACTORY'S CLOSURE IN 1956.
