George IV Coronation silver medallion. Obverse: Laureate head left with legend Georgius IIII D.G. Britanniarum Rex F.D.”; reverse: Geo IV receiving the crown from Victory, before him the figures of Britannia, Hibernia and Scotia, legend “Proprio Jam Jure Animo Paterno” with “Inauguratus Die Julii XIX Anno MDCCCXX1” in exergue. The edge engraved Major Charles Gray Graves 1st Reg BYCH,. The piece fitted with small ring suspender, diam 35mm. VF Plate 3. Note: this attractive medal was designed by Pistrucci and displays all his excellent qualities, it was the official Royal Mint issue. The “BYCH” named on the edge refers to the Buckinghamshire Yeomanry Cavalry Horse who acted as Royal Escort at the Coronation. The following appeared in “The Morning Post” 22nd May 1822: “The Duke of Buckinghamshire has directed a silver Coronation medal to be presented to each officer, non-commissioned officer, and private in the First Regiment of Bucks Yeomanry Cavalry, who attended at the Coronation. The medals are to be worn, attached to the ribands which are to be presented with them, on the left breast whenever those who receive them appear in uniform.”

Breadalbane Highlanders 1798, a silver oval medal, obverse shows a soldier dressed in Highland uniform with legend in scroll above “Pro Rege et Patria delce Periculum”, initials A.G. & Co in exergue; reverse: legend “Presented to the Volunteers of the 2nd Battn by their Colonel the Earl of Breadalbane in testimony of their gallant conduct in having Volunteer’d their services to Ireland to supress Rebellion and to aid in repelling a French force which had invaded the Kingdom 1798”. NEF. Plate 3

A small silver medal “To The South Devon Militia in Testimony of Merit 1799”, obverse: trophy of arms within wreath, reverse The Arms of Waterford. Diam 31mm, with integral ring mount. A pleasing VF and scarce. Plate 3. Note: The Regiment at this time was stationed in Waterford and helped contain the Irish Rebellion of 1798. It is not known how many of these medals were awarded but believed less than 10 survive.

Obverse: head of Abercromby right with legend “Abercromby Dux in Egypto Cecidit Victor 28 Mar 1801”, the edge inscribed “The Highland Society of London” which is partly obscured by the addition of a suspension loop. NEF (minor contact marking, an attractive partial tone). Plate 3. Note: These medals were awarded in gold, silver and bronze to commemorate the 42nd Regiment Black Watch’s victory over the French Invincible Legion in Egypt.

Lord Portarlington’s shabraque 23rd Light Dragoons, length 47”, edge embroidered in silver lace, crowned “GR”, “Egypt” and “23 LD” in front and rear section, Quite Good Condition but mothed in many parts. Plate 56. Note: Colonel Lord Portarlington fought in Egypt, the Peninsula War and at Waterloo. In all probability the shabraque was the one used at Waterloo. Provenance from a house sale of his property.

An iron bound darkwood water cask, with iron top spout and carrying handle, silver plate engraved “Gunner’s water key taken by Midshipman John Bailey in HMS Africa during the War with France”, and an old ink written label “1905. John Bailey Served on HMS Africa at the Battle of Trafalgar 1805”, length 11” maximum diameter 9”. Good Condition for age Plate 62. Note: HMS Africa was the last ship to arrive at the battle. It was the first ship in the navy to be extended with a centre section. Nelson said “she sails like a haystack”.

A light cavalry officer’s sword of The 10th Hussars, presented by The Prince of Wales in 1808, broad, curved, fullered blade 32½”, double edged at point and etched for three quarters length, on both sides, in imitation damascene panels, with large barbed serpent scrolls around central panels, the panel on one side bearing a trophy of arms and on the other “H.R.H. George P.W. to R.E.W. 10 Hussars 1808”, gilt stirrup hilt, the langets shaped around silver plated Prince of Wales’s feathers, line engraved and facetted strap knucklebow, prominent forward sloping stepped pommel, foliate backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip. Very Good Condition for age, the hilt retaining much original gilt. Plate 63. Note: the sword of Rowland Edward Williams, Cornet 1805, Lieutenant 1806, Captain 1809
