Sir Alfred Gilbert, (1854-1934), A late 19th century cast silver winged figure of Victory, modelled standing on one foot holding a sheaf and a baton, on a sardonyx sphere and stepped ebony and walnut base, not hallmarked, 16 ins. This figure is unusual in the fact that Gilbert worked mainly in bronze and sometimes silvered bronze. It was later secured to the top of a walnut bookcase which was by repute made for the 1889 Paris International Exhibition. Please see lot 656
