A 19th century continental silver oval box, with import marks for London 1896, maker HCF, the flat hinged cover cast with floral sprigs and bow-tied ribbons, with wave and dot pattern engine turned sides and base flanked by bead and scroll cast borders, also a composite box, with marks for London1789/1809 to the base, the cover with Lion passant and Birmingham Assay mark only, of circular outline with C-scroll and foliate cast border, the cover depicting a lady in a landscape, and a smaller circular box, apparently unmarked, with flat hinged cover with central foliate scroll cartouche and cushion shaped sides with wave border oval box 6.5cm x 5cm x 2.5cm, circular box diameters 5cm and 3.5cm
Jonathan Macallan Swan (1847-1910) St John the Baptist, standing with arms raised, on rocky base, silver metal, signed and dated 1899. 64cm high Provenance; Jesmond Towers, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, where it is listed in an inventory of 1926 in the Billiard Room as 'A bronze figure of a boy'. Literature; Leighton and his Sculptural Legacy: British Sculpture 1875-1930 exhibition catalogue item 28, Joanna Barnes Fine Arts, Duke Street, London 1996. There is a variant of this figure in the Perth Art Gallery.
