The arched hand-beaten copper body raised on flared feet extending to a diminishing tapering column at each corner, the beaten face having embossed figures, Arabic numerals and two winding apertures and below it two lines of hand-beaten script in a font of highly stylized capitals, the well known quotation of Benjamin Franklin, one of the founding fathers of the United States: "HE THAT RISETH LATE MUST TROT ALL DAY". The door to the rear having a wrought iron latch handle and riveted hinges opening to reveal a high quality French two-train brass constructed movement by Japy Freres numbered 35469 striking the hours and half hours on a gong. 13 1/8" tall, 9 1/2" wide and 7 1/4" deep.
