A Georgian silver snuff box, of rectangular form, the hinged cover embossed with a hunting scene, Birmingham 1826, weight 3oz, 3ins x 1.5insCondition Report: The box has been over cleaned and the top has been pushed hard down so now the top goes over the base slightly and there are two small splits to the front corners. There also appears to be a crease to the back bottom edge.
An Edwardian silver mounted coconut cup and cover, the coconut carved with flowers, a bird and Katarina Mindzen, the silver mounts embossed with faces, flowers and scrolls, Chester 1907, maker George Nathan & Ridley Hayes, height 11ins The inscription to the base, C.F 21.12.1911 relates to Cicely Mary Foster of the Foster family. All seven of her brothers played cricket for Worcestershire C.C.C. 1890's to 1900's - which led to the soubriquet ''Fostershire.'' Cicely herself was a superb golfer, and captained the England Ladies Golf team against Ireland in the early 1900's and regularly played against men. She, her parents, Rev Henry and Sophia Foster of Malvern Boys' College, her sister and elder brothers, including Reg 'Tip' Foster are buried in the Gt Malvern Cemetery. Their graves have recently been renovated by the Foster family descendants and Malvern Civic Society. R. Foster still holds cricketing batting records and only recently lost the highest batting Test score on his test debut against Australia. His bat is still in the old cricket pavilion at Malvern College. The date 21.12 1911 is the date of her marriage to C.H.Giles. Sadly she died in childbirth some 15 months later.Condition Report: Some dinks and dents to silver, particularly base, rim and cover, slight scratches to coconut.
