Buckle, tip and slide of “Light Dragoon” style in hallmarked silver. Gold lace bright; front ornaments absent, otherwise VGC ... The black leather pouch, with blue velvet flap edged with 1-inch gold lace and bearing the cypher of King George V in gold embroidery, complete with its velvet-lined foul-weather cover (pouch now crudely fitted with HM silver suspension loops). WW2 Royal Marine Officer’s POW “Dog Tag” & ID Tag. Worn by Captain Bryan Harvey Salmons who was captured during Operation Agreement attack on German held Tobruk. Comprising: German POW Dog Tag stamped “OFLAG XIB 00284”, silver Middle East small trench art dog tag engraved “CAPT B.H. SALMONS RM CE O.IV.”. (2 items)Captain Bryan Harvey Salmons was commissioned into the Portsmouth Division Royal Marines. In 1941 he was posted to Mobile Naval Base Defence Organisation later to be 11 Commando. He was captured on the 14th September 1942 during Operation Agreement. Following his release he remained with the “Royals” and in 1945 is noted as serving at Lympstone RM Training Centre.

Boer War Volunteer Company Liverpool Regiment Queen’s South Africa Pair. Awarded to later Warrant Officer Claude Grantley Beechey. Comprising: Queen’s South Africa Medal five clasps, “Cape Colony”, “Orange Free State”, “Transvaal”, “South Africa 1901”, “South Africa 1902”, “7970 PTE C.G. BEECHEY VOL COY LIVERPOOL REGT”, Territorial Force Efficiency Medal (GVR), “36 SJT C.G. BEECHY 6/ L’POOL R”. Warrant Officer Claude Grantley Beechey after service in South Africa enlisted into the 6th Bn Liverpool Regiment on the 1st April 1908. He landed in France with the Battalion on the 24t February 1915. On the 5th May the same year he was badly wounded during the attack on Hill 60 receiving gunshot wounds to the back and stomach. He was discharged with the silver war badge on the 21st January 1916.

Seeded gilt rectangular plate with burnished rim; mounted with a cut silver Garter Star on a gilt slip. Mounted on the star, a gilt crowned Garter. Gilt floriated “70” to silver centre; beneath the Garter, an ornate gilt scroll inscribed “SURREY”. Reverse retains two hooks and two studs; complete most of original backing leather. Accompanied by full dress bullion epaulettes with silver bullion foul anchor indicating the rank of Lieutenant. ... Sword belt complete with gilt regulation pattern waist clasp and sword slings. Contained in the original metal and velvet lined storage tin. GC, Bullion fresh and bright. Hat lining silk with small amount of age wear and two small holes to the exterior.

East Lancashire Regiment 1878 pattern Officer’s Home Service Helmet circa 1901-1914 A good bright example of the blue cloth helmet complete with gilt metal cross piece, spike and rose bosses which support the velvet backed chin chain. To the front, a regimental pattern helmet plate bearing an applied silver tri-part scroll inscribed “The East Lancashire Regiment”. The interior retains, leather sweatband and tailor’s stamp of F.W. Flight Aldershot. The helmet retains a good shape, gilt furniture matching, Helmet plate bright. This appears to be the only plate fitted.

2nd Lancashire Volunteers Victorian Officer’s quilted shako 1861-69 A good scarce example of dark blue cloth; around to top of the crown, a band of silver lace with gorgon’s head at the back; around the base, a narrow band of silver lace and with patent leather peak. To the front, a silver eight pointed star, the topmost point displaced by a Crown; mounted on the star, a title circlet inscribed “2nd Lancashire Volunteers”; to the centre, a strung bugle with “2” between the cords. Wool scarlet and white ball tuft and complete with velvet back chinchain. The interior with sweatband crimson silk lining with the tailor’s details of “E. Jacobson”. Overall GC.

Victorian Cheshire Regiment 1878 pattern Officer’s helmet. The helmet is complete with gilt metal furniture, the interlinked chin chain, with velvet backing. To the front, a gilt metal Victorian helmet plate with an applied silver tri-part scroll inscribed “THE CHESHIRE REGIMENT”. The interior with leather sweatband and tailor’s stamp of Hawkes & Co London. The helmet retains a good shape, gilt worn to base brass metal, material with polish staining to parts.

Within the Garter, the White Horse of Hanover in silver on gilt ground with “VIII” all set on a replacement crimson velvet ground. Reverse retains two hooks and two studs; complete with leather liner. Regilded. VGC

2nd Life Guards Victorian Officer’s Helmet. A rare example worn by Lieutenant Alfred Millington Knowles, who was later serving with the Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War. The skull of German silver decorated with gilt brass laurel and oak leaf design. Gilt rose pattern ear bosses support a gilt brass red leather backed chin chain. To the front, helmet plate of half laurel/half oak leaf wreath surrounding the Collar of the Order of the Garter and surmounted by a Crown. Mounted to centre is a cut silver star of the Order of the Garter. The gilt pierced Garter is set onto blue enamelled ground, to the centre, the Cross of St. George in red enamel (small chip). To top of the helmet a gilt and silver spike rises from an eight pointed star and supports the white horse hair plume. The interior with quilted silk sweatband. Overall GC. The helmet and plume retain their original metal storage tins. Each with an engraved brass plate “A.M. Knowles 2nd Life Guards”. Lieutenant Alfred Millington Knowles, originally served with the 3rd Bn Leicestershire Regiment before being granted a Commission in the 2nd Life Guards in 1892. After resigning his commission at the outbreak of the Boer War he volunteered for service with the 3rd (South Nottingham) Co. of the Imperial Yeomanry and was killed in action near Buffleshoek, South Africa, in 1900.

Boer War 2nd Bn Gloucestershire Regiment Attributed Other Ranks Helmet, Medals & Shrapnel Hit Boot. An extremely rare grouping of items attributed to 2420 Lance Corporal Henry George Pullin of the 2nd Bn Gloucestershire Regiment who was reported wounded at Klip Drift February 1900. Comprising Helmet with original khaki foreign service helmet cotton cover tailored with pagri and rare feature of a neck flap. The rear “V” of the pagri supports a Gloucestershire Regiment metal back badge and padded scarlet and white embroidered cloth pagri badge. The interior with leather sweatband and chinstrap, both fragile To the cotton lining issue stamps “2 GR 2420” also WD stamp and date 1899. The helmet is in completely sleepy untouched condition with storage wear and dusty. ... Military 1899 issue leather hobnailed boot. This with clear WD issue stamp, markers stamp and date 1899. This boot appears to have a shrapnel hole and is believed the reason for keeping this as a souvenir. ... Medal Group comprising: Queen’s South Africa Medal, three clasps “Relief of Kimberley”, “Paardeberg”, “Orange Free State”, “2420 PTE H PULL GLOUC RGT” (Early issue script naming with ghost dates to reverse), Imperial Service Medal (GVR) “HENRY GEORGE PULLIN”, Territorial Force Efficiency Medal (GVR) “315 PTE H G PULLIN 4/ GLOUC R”. Medals Loose. .... Other items include Silver War Badge “11990”. ... 1st VB Gloucestershire Regiment 1909 Shooting Medal. ... Regimental badges, medal ribbon bar... Queen Victoria 1900 Chocolate Tin. (10 items)2420 Lance Corporal Henry George Pullin (sometimes spelt Pullen on records) originally enlisted into the 4th Bn of the Somerset Light Infantry and then enlisted into the Gloucestershire Regiment in 1888. He appears on the QSA Medal roll for the 2nd Bn which landed in Cape Town in January 1900. He was reported as wounded (Bn & Regimental number correct name given “R Pullen”) at Klip Drift on the 16th February 1900, this during the Battle of Paardeberg. The family story being that the boot included in this lot being evidence of one of his wounds. There is no record located of the award of the King’s South Africa Medal or clasp “South Africa 1901”, the early issue of the QSA also appears to back the assumption that the KSA was not issued. Remaining with the Gloucester Regiment Volunteers and later Territorial Force he was awarded the TFEM and in 1915 volunteered for overseas service. His records show he was discharged due to sickness, possibly his South Africa wound and was issued the silver war badge (number confirmed).

To each sleeve silver bullion embroidered “Indian Parachute Regiment” embroidered titles, printed “India” Pegasus badge and above the right breast India pattern parachute qualification wings. To each shoulder strap Lieutenant rank stars on blue backing and with silver bullion highlights. The left breast with a MID oak leaf, 1939/45 Star and Burma Star ribbons. The interior with no issue or tailor’s details.

Comprising: A blue double-breasted tunic of Lancer style, with yellow facings and piping to edges and back-seams, the collar with white metal badges in the form of the Edward VII cypher, and edged with regimental Wave pattern gold lace. Round cuffs with wide gold lace and yellow three-button slashes. Six regimental buttons in each row to front. Yellow lapels and skirt-slashes, both edged with heavy Russia braid. Plaited gold shoulder-cords bearing Captain’s badges in silver embroidery ... Together with a pair of blue cavalry-twill pantaloons with 1 ¾ in. yellow stripes, both VGC. (2 items)

Victorian English Lord Lieutenant’s scarlet Coatee & Cocked Hat. A rare near complete example of the pattern worn after 1889. Comprising: Cocked hat of black beaver skin, to the front a black silk rose mounted with a double silver bullion loop, and silvered button. Fore and aft gold bullion tassels rest on a crimson cushion. Complete with white and scarlet swan feather plume. The interior with leather sweatband and crimson silk lining. Slight wear GC.... Coatee of scarlet cloth, with dark blue facings to the collar and cuffs, each is richly embroidered with silver bullion oak leaf and acorns. To the front a double row of silvered Crown and wreath buttons, these are repeated to the top of the tails. The tails of the Coatee terminate with a silver bullion and crimson rose. The interior of quilted silk, with tailor’s label of Hill Brothers London.Box pattern epaulets. The strap of silver lace with silvered crest supporting twist wire tassels. Within the crescent a gold bullion and crimson English rose.Overalls black melton cloth with silver bullion lace line of oak leaf and acorn design. Matching tailor’s label to the lining.The overall condition is good bullion and scarlet remain fresh.

Royal Engineers Militia Edward VII Officers’ Full Dress Tunic. Scarlet tunic with blue velvet collar, cuffs and edging to fronts and skirts. The collar edged with gold Staff/RE lace to top and fronts, within a row of basket cord, and fitted with large grenades in silver embroidery. The cuffs edged with gold cord traced with Russia, forming an Austrian knot at the point. Buttons with Edward VII cypher. Massive gold shoulder-cords of RE pattern, bearing a single star and initial M in silver embroidery. Some moth damage and staining, lining defective ... together with a fine pair of blue overalls with 2 in. scarlet stripes ... and together also with an earlier Royal Engineer Volunteer officer’s scarlet mess vest edged with silver Russia braid and studs to front. Pocket openings also with Russia decoration. (3 items)

Leeds Volunteers Georgian Officer’s Coatee. circa 1820 A scarlet cloth coatee, with yellow collar, plastron and cuffs. The upright collar and fronts fastened with hooks and eyes. The collar edged all round with half-inch silver “check” lace. The plastron fully reversible, with scarlet underside, edged with narrow white piping, fastened on each side with 12 small silvered regimental buttons in groups of three, the button-holes forming twist loops across the front. Round cuffs edged with lace as on collar. 3-button scarlet slashes to cuffs and skirts. White skirt-lining and turn-backs, with a pair of white metal bugle-horn skirt ornaments on yellow backing. The buttons bear a rose within a crowned circlet inscribed Leeds Volunteers all on a star resembling the Thistle Star. The coat complete with its detachable wings, the straps of tapering white metal chain, edged with silver embroidery on scarlet cloth. Small bugle horns at the junction of the strap and wings. A double row of short silver bullions along the outer edge of the wings. The coatee with slight fading and some moth damage, mainly to the skirt-linings but GC for its age; the linings underneath the wings somewhat defective. Until 1816 a great mass of infantry volunteer corps in various guises existed (including in Leeds) but these had been promptly disbanded when Napoleon ceased to be a threat. However, in 1819-20 there was a very limited and now little known movement to form new infantry volunteer units. Only around 6 such corps seem to have been raised in England and these mostly disappeared within 5 or 6 years. Commissions in the Leeds Volunteers were issued from 17th July 1820. Several of the officers had served in the Leeds Local Militia up to 1816. The unit originally had 3 Bn. Coys. one Grenadier Coy. and one Light Infantry Coy. and received its Colours in July 1821. There is a lack of evidence of the corps continuing after 1825, by when it had become known as the Leeds Light Infantry. The uniform had several striking, advanced features, namely slash cuffs, closed collar, lace trimming and the plastron front.Vendor states associated with the Georgian waist sash Lot 427.

Royal West Kent Regiment WW1 attributed 1902 Other Rank’s Tunic. A very good example of the regulation pattern attributed to Sergeant Sydney Bowyer, who was wounded on four occasions. To each sleeve Sergeant chevrons, the left cuff with the addition of a marksman badge and Four brass wound stripes. The right cuffs with one red and three blue service chevrons. Compete with brass regimental buttons and shoulder titles. The stand and fall collar has the regulation four pleats below. Very clean good condition few moth nip holes not effecting the appearance. ... The tunic is accompanied by three original postcard photographs, one wearing this tunic.By descent through the family. Sergeant Sydney Bowyer a pre war regular soldier enlisted into the Royal West Kent Regiment on the 16th January 1911 and landed in France with his regiment on the 15th August 1914, he would spend 2 years in France and 4 months in Italy. He was first wounded left leg on the 17th April 1915 and appears to have been wounded again on the 30th July 1915. His third wound is noted as Gun shot wound right foot on the 21st April 1917 and fourth wound on the 2nd July 1918. He was discharged and issued the silver war badge as a result of his wounds on the 9th March 1919. By family repute Sydney was partially sighted in one eye, but an excellent shot and served as a sniper for a time on the Western Front.

Plated eagle crossguard with swastika. Oakleaf decoration to pommel and ferrule. Housed in stippled plated scabbard with two suspension rings and foliate lockets. Complete with silver laced, velvet-backed slings with oakleaf ornamented oval buckles and stippled spring-clips, leather reinforced and strap hanger replaced. Toned externally, blade bright. Within a gilt oval oak wreath surmounted by eagle and swastika, a funnel of water caused by an explosion. The reverse with ball joint needle pin (bent). Some service wear. GC ... secondly a de-Nazified Destroyers badge by JFS introduced 4th June 1940. Within a gilt oval oakleaf wreath surmounted by eagle and swastika, a silver speeding destroyer with its bows breaking through the wreath Reverse with horizontal with ball joint needle pin and and small hook to reverse of eagle. German Third Reich Cavalry Officer’s cap by E.Schluter Nacht. A good pre-war style example. Grey cotton material, with dark green cap band and yellow piping to the welt of the crown and band. Retaining original grey metal Army Eagle, National Cockade and grey metal oak leaf wreath. Black fibre peak, with silver chin cords. The interior with leather sweatband, cotton lining and tailor’s details of E.Schluter Nacht. The cap is with minor age wear but with moth.

Napoleonic War Period 1796 Infantry Pattern Sword The 32 inch straight spearpoint blade retains traces of blue & gilt decoration (10%). The engraved decoration includes a Crowned GR cypher, Royal Coat of Arms etc. The fire gilt hilt of regulation pattern, with single bar guard and fixed shell guard. The grip retains silver wire binding, which is surmounted by an urn pommel. Complete with original black leather and gilt mounted scabbard. Please note chape absent. GC.

Napoleonic War Battle of Waterloo Period 1796 Light Cavalry Officer’s Sword Blue & Gilt Decoration. A good example, the single edged curved blade with half length blue and gilt decoration depicting a Crowned GR cypher and a mounted cavalry Officer. The hilt with single bar guar protecting the leather covered grip with silver twist wire binding. Housed in original steel scabbard fitted with two loose rings. Overall GC dark patina, 80% blue & gilt remains.
