A VIENNESE SILVER GILT AND PAINTED ENAMEL NEF as a three masted ship with billowing sails painted with mythological scenes and crewed by colourfully attired sailors on the deck, scaling ladders or in the crow`s nest, 21cm h, 20th c, 14ozs ++The bow sprit broken without significant loss. The enamels undamaged, heavily tarnished and much build up of dust and grime. One of the three flags detached, some of the ropes, rigging and ladders a little distorted and some loose, but apparently complete. Originally intended to be on a base such as a pedestal. Long in the local private ownership

A GEORGE III SILVER HAND SEAL engraved with armorials, fluted ivory handle, 11cm h, by Peter & William Bateman, London 1807 The arms are those of Lord William Beauclerk (1766-1825) and his two wives: Charlotte Thelwall (d 1797) and Maria Nelthorpe (d 1822). In 1825 he succeeded a nephew as 8th Duke of St Albans, but at the time this seal was cut he was not yet a duke. ++In good condition with under magnification just visible some spots of adhesive at the base of the handle where it has possibly been re-attached but thought to be the original. Crisply carved and of fine quality, free from cracks or chips, the seal with some very slight scratches but only consistent with the age, the marks good
