John Knibb of Oxford ebonised cased basket topped bracket clock, circa 1685 but with later additions, the associated 8" square brass dial signed John Knibb Oxon Fecit and having cherub mask spandrels, silver chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals, engraved centre, pierced blue steel hands, twin winding holes for an eight day six pillar verge fusee movement, having outside countwheel and striking on a bell, the backplate engraved with trailing flowers and a fish, signed John Knibb Oxonia Fecito, the case probably associated and with gilt metal mounts, fixed brass carry handle, and raised on bun feet, gross h.44cm, w.30.5cm Condition Report / Extra Information Dial and case probably associated. In running order. With winding key. Finials and feet probably replacement. Metal mounts all with restored appearance. Movement with two unexplained holes to backplate. Bell probably replacement. Case good with light age wear.
Daniel Barrett of Chatham - an 18th century chinoisserie lacquered longcase clock, having an arch brass dial (w.11.5") with ships automata to the arch and later plaque entitled 'The Britannia', the chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals flanked by cast brass scroll leaf spandrels, enclosing named plate, subsidiary seconds dial, matted centre with date aperture, twin winding holes for an eight day brass four pillar movement striking on a bell, the case with arched panel doors decorated with figure scenes to a boxbase, h.217cm Condition Report / Extra Information Case lacquer work is distressed all over but appears original and untouched. Worst areas of lacquer distress around upper left corner of door. Some worm holes to hood at top and sides (not active). Dial good but with some tarnishing. Hands later black painted, probably replacement. Hour hand loose. Paintwork to ship and background very grubby and with lacquer residue, 'The Britannia' nameplate is applied. Movement and dial appear original to one another, requires light overhaul. Sold with pendulum and brass cased weights.
