A pair of Regency and later painted and parcel gilt library armchairs with floral carved cresting rail flanked by tongues of acanthus above channelled and tied Reed outlines, with distinctive double crescent open arms above stop fluted seat rails painted with quatrefoils, supported by reeded tapering legs. 61 cm wide x 71 cm deep x 89 cm overall height, 45 cm height to the seat.A private estate. Both chairs have been through the mill and show a number of poor but effective reapairs, the legs have been reduced and the front legs show signs of turned pegs inserted presumably to effect the re-fitting of some former cup castors, strangely the bottom knop of the legs seems to be gilded twine!!!having removed the dust cover from one chair it is apparent that some elements are period but some seem to be teplacements but the frames show signs of runs from being washed back and repainted and some gilded.I have eased of the domes of silence from a foot and it shows evidence of being reduced. To sum up these chairs are a mix of old and more recent components and these are therefore NOT wholly period but nevertheless very decorative. Please see the extra images supplied. The chairs show knocks and wear consistent with rough use but the former repairs are effective if a little crude and render the frames solid/ rigid, the seat rails show some slight historic wood worm flight holes but not to the point of powdery infestation, "just a light peppering"?

Juni-14. Oktober 2012, Landshut 2012, Kat. 7, S. 199 f. (1340431) (11)Master of Landshut,1475 – 1485, verifiableFIGURE OF A SAINT OF MUSEUM QUALITYHeight: 47.5 cm.Probably old collection no. “M 105” in black on the back of the plinth. The enclosed expert´s report by the director of the sculptures collection of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg from 2011 clearly recognizes the work of a Landshut master in the figure, “the very workshop that created figure cycles for the (Landshut) parish church of Saint Martin around 1474/85”. The time of creation of the figure can therefore be dated around 1485.Standing figure of a female saint fired in a light tone, on an eight-sided plinth worked in one piece together with the figure, was already shown in 2012 in an exhibition of the city of Landshut (see ref.).Literature:The figure was exhibited in 2012 together with other works by the Landshut workshop, discussed in detail in the exhibition catalogue and illustrated in: Franz Niehoff, Die Stadt als Bühne der Bilder: Skulpturenstadt Landshut 2012, cat. 7, p. 199 f.
Nicolas Tournier, 1590 Montbéliard – um 1657 ToulouseGEFANGENNAHME CHRISTIÖl auf Leinwand. Doubliert.116 x 147 cm.In vergoldetem ornamental verziertem Rahmen. Literatur:V. Francesco Fidanza, 1747 Rom – 1819 Mailand, zug.HAFENLANDSCHAFT BEI SONNENUNTERGANGÖl auf Leinwand. Doubliert.75 x 100 cm.In vergoldetem, teils geschnitztem Rahmen. Doubliert.73 x 93 cm.Rechts unten signiert „J.B. Klombeck“.In vergoldetem Prunkrahmen. In addition to his many beach- and coastal landscapes for which he became famous, the smaller number of Impressionist cityscapes is no less significant. Thus, his oeuvre includes a painting titled “Street view with the Cathedral of Saint Vulfran” in Abbeville, but also the market bustle in front of the Dieppe Cathedral in this lot. The market square is shown in shimmering light, the figures blurred, giving the hustle and bustle an otherwise hard to convey sense of motion.Provenance:The painting is recorded with an important, early proven provenance:Hôtel Drouot, Paris, 20/21 March 1899, “vente Atelier Boudin”, cat. no. 5 (620 Fr.)Hôtel Drouot, Paris, 15 December 1941, room 12, “vente Collection Delacre” cat. no. 34, with. ill. no. 34.
