A RUSSIAN SILVER BOMBE SUGAR BOX AND COVER flat chased with scroll work, on four hairy paw feet, 10cm l, Cyrillic maker's mark, Moscow 1741, 4ozs 17dwts Light wear consistent with age, marks reasonably clear: all three marks on underside of box and on top / underside of cover, no splits or repairs. Close examination under 10x magnification of one foot indicates minute split where it joins body but apparently not repaired and stable

Square dish with spots of flaking, plate with hairline crack at 8 o'clock

Patty pan - tiny flat chip at 4 o'clock. Mug with some light wear and firing crack at base of handle. No restoration

Cover - two small flat chips under the rim, not normally visible. Jug- wear to gilding on handle but undamaged. Slop basin - interior flower painting rubbed. Sucrier - finial resecured into position with metal pin. The other items in good condition but with general light wear that does little to detract from the opulent, rich decoration of this service

Van Dyke candlestick - firing fault on handle and light wear. The other with light wear to gilding mainly on rim of foot, no restoration detected

She was married to David Leslie 3rd Earl of Leven (1660-1728) the great scottish soldier, statesman implicated in the Rye House Plot. A supporter of William of Orange his family was responsible for bringing the artist Sir John Baptist Medina to Scotland. Varnish slightly misty and light craqueleur; requires a clean. Lined probably in the early 20th century. A Christie's stencil client number on the stretcher. Circa early 20th C gilt frame in the correct style and although dirty in generally good condition
