A pair of Louis Philippe ormolu four-light candelabra attributed to Pierre-Philippe Thomire, circa 1840 With scrolling arms and circular leaf cast drip pans with detachable nozzles, above triple cluster columns, on scrolling tripartite bases, on siena marble shaped plinths, each 63cm high, 23cm wide. (2) With similarities to a pair of seven-light candelabra by Thomire sold Christie's, London, Robert de Balkany & the Côte d'Azur, 23 March 2017, lot 553, previously sold Christie's, Paris, 19 December 2007, lot 398.
24 post 1953 to circa 1980s Australian cap badges, Armoured, Infantry and Corps, some with spike and clasp fittings, including post 1960 2nd and 3rd Cavalry Regiments, 10th Light Horse, NSW Lancers, Hunter River Lancers, 11.44th Infantry Bn, 5th Infantry Bn (Victorian Scottish), Artillery, Intelligence, and Education Corps, etc; also 6 pairs and 4 single associated collar badges. 19 New Zealand collar badges: 3rd, 5th, 6th (x2), 7th (x3), and 12th Mounted Rifles; 1st (x2), 6th, 7th and 12th Infantry; Pioneers, Machine Gun, and Dental Corps, and 3 General Service pattern; also 17 various Commonwealth etc. collar badges, including 2nd S.African Infantry, Umvoti Mounted Rifles, S.A.A.F (x2), Ceylon Light Infantry, etc. Average GC (one or two lugs missing). A composite 1796 type cavalry officer’s sword, the 32” engraved, blued and gilt blade and steel scabbard of Light Cavalry pattern, the steel hilt of Heavy Cavalry pattern but with “ears” extending from the backstrap over the replacement leather covered grip. QGC (blade worn but retaining some original blued and gilt finish, the hilt and scabbard pitted overall, one hanging ring detached but present). This appears to be a Heavy Cavalry hilt “married” to a Light Cavalry blade, the matching pitting of the two parts suggests that this was done some time ago. £100-200
A 1796 pattern Heavy Cavalry trooper’s sword, blade 33” (slightly shortened, the tip rounded), with traces of inspector’s mark and government sale mark, the hilt with one side of the disc guard and langets removed, and with no “ears” extending from the back strap over the leather covered grip. Basically GC (worn, with light pitting overall). £150-250
An Edward VII 1822 pattern Light Cavalry officer’s sword, fullered blade 34½” etched with panels of scrolls, crowned “ERVII” cypher, crowned Royal Arms, and retailer’s name “J R Gaunt & Sons”, the back edge numbered “12100”, with regulation triple bar steel hilt, in its steel scabbard. GC (slightly worn overall, patches of pitting to the blade, quite deep towards the point). £100-150
An 1885 pattern cavalry trooper’s sword, blade 34½” dated “4/86” and “/91” and stamped with broad arrow over “WD”, “YC” and inspector’s marks, with regulation pattern steel hilt, the guard stamped “4/92”, “8H 418” (partly struck out), small H over 200, and faint traces of other marks. GC, the blade clean (light surface rust on the inside of the guard, no scabbard). £80-120
A European (German?) cavalry officer’s sword, c 1760-1780, broad slightly curved blade 34” engraved with trophies, the barred steel hilt having large thumb ring, ovoid pommel, and wire bound fishskin covered grip. GC (blade slightly worn with small patches of light pitting, the hilt lightly pitted overall). £200-300
