A large collection of Paragon China dinner and tea ware in the 'Rockingham' pattern, approximately 100 pieces.Condition Report: Appears in generally very good condition, an examination of ten random pieces revealed one cup with a hairline crack, otherwise no damage, appears to have had light usage, minimal scratches and gilding loss.Please Note: This lot is not eligible for packing and shipping but we can suggest suitable private couriers.
Four 1970's diamond shaped chromium plated wire-work chairs with cushioned seats, designed by Harry Bertoia.Harry Bertoia was an Italian born American artist best known for sculptures, jewellery and furnished design. One of his most famous designs being the diamond chair, often reproduced, being elegant objects made entirely from polished steel.Condition report: rips and tears to corners. areas of paint rubbed to back edges from where they have touched walls. corrosion spots all over on all chairs to the steel frame. Colour is a light tan brown.

Language & Songs.- Collins (John) Scripscrapologia; or, Collins's doggerel Dish of All Sorts. Consisting of songs adapted to familiar tunes, and which may be sung without the chaunterpipe of an Italian warbler, or the ravishing accompaniments of Tweedle-Dum or Tweedle-Dee, first edition, half-title, engraved portrait frontispiece, this offsetting on to title, some foxing, mostly light, contemporary red morocco-backed boards, spine gilt, boards soiled, corners worn, rubbed, large 12mo, Birmingham, Publish'd by the author himself, and printed by M. Swinney, 1804.⁂ Rare. 'John Collins (1742-1808)...actor and poet, laid claim to theatrical fame mainly in his development of a kind of cabaret performance that combined his own light verse with songs, imitations of popular actors, and dialect performances. These evening performances generally went under the title of The Brush or The Evening Brush, because, according to an advertisement of 1793, it was intended "for rubbing off the rust of care". Collins thus became popularly known as "Brush Collins''.' (ODNB).
Military.- London.- Standing regulations of the Light-Horse Volunteers of London and Westminster. Carefully extracted from the minutes of the general meeting, and resolutions of the committee, since the revival of the Corps in 1794, and up to the first of August, 1804, woodcut facsimile of official stamp, a few instances of contemporary ink marginalia and notes to rear endpaper, contemporary red straight-grain morocco, gilt, rubbed at extremities, lightly stained, g.e., 24mo, printed by I. Gold, Shoe Lane, 1804.⁂ Rare. The L.H.V. had originally been formed 'upon the appearance of invasion in August 1779, [and] did duty in the Metropolis and its environs during the riots in 1780' (i.e. the Gordon riots).
Maritime.- Schomberg (Isaac) Naval Chronology; or, An Historical Summary of Naval & Maritime Events, 5 vol., first edition, list of subscribers to vol.1 and 5, some spotting or mostly light foxing, lightly browned, neat 20th century marginalia, mostly in vol.5, contemporary tree calf, sympathetically rebacked, preserving original red and green morocco labels, rubbed, 8vo, Printed for T. Economics.- [Laurie (David)] A Treatise on finance under which, the general interests of the British Empire are illustrated: comprising a project for their improvement, together with a new scheme for liquidating the National Debt, first edition, half-title, ink cancel stamp of Institute of Chartered Accountants to upper corner of title, some spotting or light staining, lightly browned, contemporary half calf, sympathetically rebacked, spine gilt and with black morocco label, corners worn, rubbed, [Goldsmiths' 21234; Kress B.6521], thick 8vo, Glasgow, 1815.⁂ A massive treatise on a complex subject, prefaced by a long and detailed index. The author notes that the treatise had been 'begun, and partly sent to the press about five years since', when the 'commercial and financial difficulties of the British empire were great beyond any former parallel.'.Provenance: 'His Royal Highness, The Duke of Clarence', William Henry, the future King William IV (ink inscription to front free endpaper).
Gaskell (Elizabeth C.) The Life of Charlotte Brontë, 2 vol., first edition, Frederick Greenwood's set, half-titles, engraved frontispieces, plate, 12pp. (of 16) publisher's catalogue at end of vol.2, final f. of this with lower half torn away, plates foxed, some spotting or light foxing, occasional staining, a few sigs. working loose, hinges weak, original cloth, spines gilt, vol.1 lower joint splitting, both vol. spine ends little chipped, corners little worn, rubbed, 8vo, Smith. Elder, and Co., 1857.⁂ Frederick Greenwood (1839-1909), English journalist and editor, who completed Gaskell's novel Wives and Daughters after her death in 1865.
NO RESERVE Movables.- English School (19th century) Three pull tab movable animated cards, including a seated lady stroking a cat, a gentleman taking snuff, and a fortune teller holding cards with inscription below that reads 'Let me spa?e your ?weat my pretty Miss, and I'll tell 'e who's to be your Husband', watercolours, pen and ink, over traces of pencil, the last mentioned signed with initials 'A.P.', various sizes between 140 x 150 mm. (5 1/2 x 5 7/8 in) and 175 x 180 mm. (6 7/8 x 7 1/8 in), all parts working and moving smoothly, the lady with the cat is lacking the upper part of her head, otherwise some surface dirt and light browning, unframed, [19th century] (3).

Europe.- Costume.- [Schwind (Moritz von)] Bilder für die Jugend. Volkstrachten, Parts 1 & 2 only (of 5), 12 lithographed plates, a couple with light marginal water-staining, original pink wrappers, yellow label to upper covers, slightly soiled, spines a little frayed, folio, Vienna, Jos. Trenksensky, [c.1825].⁂ Depicting couples from various countries in national costume, mostly continental Europe but including Turkey, Russia, Africa and Scotland, the latter looking rather more Eastern European than Highland.
South Seas.- Shillibeer (Lt. John) A Narrative of the Briton's Voyage, to Pitcairn's Island; including an Interesting Sketch of the Present State of the Brazils and of Spanish South America, second edition, 12 etched portraits and plates, 2 folding, one printed in sanguine, heavily foxed, one folding plate stained, a few other stains, correction in pencil and ink to p.71, a few leaves becoming loose, contemporary half calf, spine gilt with red roan label, rubbed, 1817 § Brodie (William) Pitcairn's Island and the Islanders in 1850, ?first edition, 2 lithographed portraits and one plate, payment slip tipped in at front, list of subscribers, very light spotting to title and final leaf, original cloth, slightly rubbed, spine faded, paper label chipped, 1851, [Ferguson 697 & 7444; Hill 1563 & 186; Sabin 80484 & 8181], 8vo (2)⁂ Two works on the Pitcairn Islands and their famous inhabitants. The Briton set sail from England on New Year's Eve 1813, visiting Rio de Janeiro, St. Helena and the Cape of Good Hope before arriving at Pitcairn in September 1814. "A very interesting narrative including some curious details regarding the mutiny of the Bounty, and the meeting with the last survivor, John Adams..." (Hill). There is also a portrait of "Friday Fletcher October Christian", the son of Fletcher Christian and the first child born on the island to the mutineers, and views of Rio, Pitcairn and the island of Juan Fernandez. This second edition was issued the same year as the first which was published in Taunton.
Fishing.- Saunders (James) The compleat fisherman. Being a large and particular account, of all the several ways of fishing now practised in Europe; ... Collected from the best authors, and from the long experience of James Saunders, first edition, charming engraved folding frontispiece depicting four species of fish and different methods for catching them, woodcut head- and tail-pieces and decorative initials, some spotting and mostly light water-staining, contemporary calf, gilt, upper cover all but detached, spine ends and corners worn, rubbed and scuffed, [W&s p.189; Thacher p.447], 12mo, Printed for W. Mears, and S. Tooke, 1724.⁂ One of four variant imprints in this year. This the only one in W&S, and with ESTC recording only three copies, none of which in the UK. The work gives details of various methods of catching different fish, and which rivers to find them in. It is the first angling book to mention silk-worm gut.

Latinitate donati, et scholis explicati atque illustrati a Joanne Sturmio, edited and translated by Jan Kocin, 2 parts in 1, part 1 parallel Greek and Latin text, titles with woodcut printer's device, woodcut decorative initials, initial spaces with guide-letters, lightly browned throughout, occasional spotting and light staining, 17th century calf, rebacked, covers rather worn, but holding firm, [VD 16 H 2473], 8vo, Strasbourg, Josias Rihel, 1570.⁂ First edition edited and translated by the Czech humanist Jan Kocin of this work on oratory and rhetoric. Provenance: 'Mitford, 1809' and a note on Sturmius in the same hand to front free endpaper. William Mitford (1744-1827) English M.P. and historian. His interest in Hermogenes no doubt relates to one of his early publications Essay on the Harmony of Language, 1774; 'Robert Montague, 1862' (ink inscription to front pastedown). Lord Robert Montague (1825-1902) politician, Vice-President of the Committee for Education between 1867 and 1868.

A Fine Chinese Cizhou type Ovoid Bottle – Jin / Yuan Dynasty. This jar, or bottle, is heavily-potted and made from a light grey stoneware with a double-ringed mouth coated in a dark brown glaze. The pattern around the shoulder, in overglaze iron oxide, features three stylized birds in flight, abstractly painted. Height 21cm (8.25 inches). c.12th – 13th Century, possibly later.For reference: similar examples are illustrated and described in the 1996 book “Hare’s Fur, Tortoiseshell, Partridge Feathers, Chinese Brown- and Black-Glazed Ceramics, 400 – 1400”.Provenance: from the collection of the late Brian Page (1938-2018), the well-known Oriental art and antiques dealer from Brighton.
