One tiny dark coloured piece of debris trapped on the lower mount below the frame, thunder fly? Odd tiny foxing spot mostly to the lower mount. One tiny brown coloured fleck looks to be sitting on surface above the front part of the haed of the bird standing closest to the viewer. Possibly some light time staining in general but colours appear mostly clean and bright. No evidence of cockling, not examined out of the frame.

Retouching throuigh sky which has deteriorated and is now visible by eye. More delicate and sporadic infillign to old craquelure within the lower part of the sky between the two roofs on the right hand side. Strengthening to the finnial attop the far right hand roof and strengthening to the shadow to far right hand side of the same building. Further retouches and relatively delicate, although more consistent to the darker tones and shadows of the upper part of the second to far right hand side buidling. Further very fine retouches within the lower parts of same building and in and around the background of the figures under the canopy, presumably to replace tiny specs of old flaked paint. Further strengthening to the shadows of the doorway to the far left hand building and the area between the two roofs of the far left hand buildings along left hand side edge.

Area of consistent retouching and overpainting within background beneath the lower right-hand side, ipright rectangular in overal shape and approx 1-1.5cm by 4cm. Horizontal retouch to lower edge approx 4cm in length with two smaller retouches just below the signature and just above the signature. Areas of stable cracquelure most notably across the white blooms with a patch of discoloured varnsih? to the immediate left here and to a lesser extent right and elsewhere, see images.

Relined, cleaned and revarnished. The paint is slightly thin in places and surface is somewhat flattened as a result of the restoration process. Some general separation to the pigment or bitumen? within the darker tones across his right shoulder/collar/cape/neck/chin etc. Vertical patch of retouching to possible old damage approx 3-4cm from lower left corner and approx 3cm in length. Further patch of retouching or restoration at the curve of his shoulder against cape which is broadly 1.5 by 3cm overall. V-shaped retouching to possible old damage approx centre left-hand side 3cm on longest length. General strengthening to the outline of the face. Slightly irregular vertical arrangement of retouching to old damage or losses essentially along right edge running from top of his left shoulder to just below top of sitters head. Strengthening to outline hair, neck, tunic. General more sporadic retouching through surface otherwise. Light surface dirt and discoloured varnish.

The ring is in good condition. It is stamped 'PLATIN' '22K' and in our opinion would test as gold and platinum. The principal diamond measures 8.90mm x 7.43mm, depth unobtainable. The approximate qualities of the fancy coloured diamond are; colour fancy light yellow, clarity VS1/VS2. The approximate qualities of the white diamonds are; colour H/I/J, clarity VS2/SI1/SI2. Militaria: a collection of twenty-eight military subject postcards, including RP, regimental crests, comic, etc., and an album of fifty vintage black and white photographs depicting farming and military subjects, together with a 71st Regiment of Foot glengarry badge (a lot) The 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot was a light infantry regiment raised in 1777. It distinguished itself in the war with France following the 1789 revolution and subsequent rise of Napoleon, and fought at Waterloo. The Regiment also served in India during the Mutiny and on the North-West Frontier. It was amalgamated with the 74th (Highland) Regiment of Foot in 1881 to form the Highland Light Infantry.

Rudge settled in Morchard Bishop, Devon where, with his late wife Julie, he created a home and studio. During a successful career as a commercial ceramicist, Lawson Rudge became well known for his whimsical raku pottery sculptures, including flat cows and hares; Lawson has now retired to a home outside Exeter.
