A TULWAR SWORD. A Tulwar sword with steel hilt and saucer shaped pommel, and knuckle guard. The crossguard of hammer-head form with twin langets, with traces of original plating. The T shaped blade of 28.1/4" has a full length rear spine, reinforcing the striking power. A light decoration on one side a third along the blade, and an overall length of 32.3/4", lacking a scabbard.
A LIGHT CAVALRY TROOPERS SWORD & SCABBARD A Troopers Light Cavalry sword, in the style of the 1788 pattern, with steel scabbard. Single edged curved 32" blade with 7/8th length wide fullers, steel hilt with wire wrapped grip. Dual langets that locate the blade into the single ring mount scabbard, some rust evident.
A 1796 PATTERN TROOPERS SWORD & SCABBARD (Bucks Yeo) A 1796 Troopers pattern Light Cavalry sword, with very clean 32.3/4" blade with Bate on the back-edge. Leather wrapped hilt with partial covering, steel hilt and backstrap. The steel scabbard with D Egg Hay Market London engraved in one cartouche. 3 Regiment Bucks Yeomanry 1803, on the other side of the scabbard, October 21 1803 or 5 amid foilage decoration, below the cartouche. AN OSBORN 1796 VARIANT SWORD & SCABBARD. An officers 1796 Light Cavalry variant sword by Osborne Gunby Street, in gold lettering. Steel hilt with wire wrapped wooden grip, the guard and backstrap of steel. The clipped point blade of some 33.1/2", is decorated with GR, Trophies and other designs, all with gilt infill. Lacking a scabbard, the blade with large and narrow three-quarter fullers.
A LIGHT BRIGADE CHARGERS MEDAL. A three bar Crimea Medal with the name engraved to Henry Jewell X1th Hussars. The bars are Alma, Balaklava, Sebastopol, the naming in upright capitals. Henry Jewell is listed as Wounded on October 25 1854, his Regimental number was 1403. In Lummis and Wynn's excellent Honour The Light Brigade, it shows Henry Jewell enlisted in September 1848. Severly wounded in the Charge on the 25th October 1854. His bars are confirmed, also that he attended the First Balaklava Banquet 25th October 1873. He became a Member of the Balaklava Commemoration Society in 1879. It would appear that Medals sent out were unnamed when issued to those still abroad. Whilst some were named to those serving at base back in this country. See Illustration
AN INDIA G-SERVICE MEDAL TO AN OFFICER 1st MADRAS LANCERS. An Indian General Service Medal 1854 with bar Burma 1887-89, named to Lieut R de L Faunce. 1st Madras Lancers. Robert de Launa Faunce was commissioned into the Oxford Light Infantry, 17th September 1887. Transferring to the Indian Army he was awarded the medal and clasp for the Burma Expedition 1887-89. He was Mentioned in Despatches in the London Gazette on the 15th November 1889. Att 2nd Battn U B T Orderly Officer. Promoted Lt 27/8/1889 Cpt 17/9/1898 Mjr 13/5/1905 Lt Col 1/2/1915 Retiring from the Indian Army in the early 1920's, he resided at Rudcroft. Burgess Hill, Sussex. He died aged 78 on the 18th June 1945, leaving some £2554 of effects to his wife Katherine Mary Faunce. See Illustration

A Memorial Plaque named to David Nichol, son of Mrs Margaret P Nicol of 9 Albyn Cottages, Broxburn, West Lothian. (Numbered 38211 Missing Presumed Dead 7/6/1917 whilst attached 8th Battn Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, aged 23. Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.
A 1916 HMS DUBLIN PRESENTATION DINNER GONG. A real quality 'Trench Art' period dinner gong, mounted on an oak plinth from the Light Cruiser HMS Dublin. Two 3 pdr shells with warheads and a top brace between them, holding a 3" 1914 dated shellcase with naval markings. Standing some 22" high and 18" long by 12" wide. 'Mrs H Norton. From Officers & Ships Company HMS Dublin. August 1916'. HMS Dublin engaged and sank an enemy Destroyer at the Battle of Jutland, so was presumably at Portsmouth undergoing repairs to her 'severe damage from the salvoes from enemy ships at this time. Mrs Norton was the Lady of Southwick House and Estate at the time, Purbrook, Hampshire. Having owned the estate for hundreds of years, the Norton family would have had strong naval ties. Possibly from the late Mrs E S Norton-Borthwick's sale of October 1988.
