Circle of Hendrik Maertensz. Sorgh (1611-1670) Dutch The Fish Market Bears signature, oil on canvas, 63cm by 80cm Provenance: Houstoun Boswall Collection (via descent from Houstoun Boswall baronets) Private Collection UK This composition presents a wealth of detail suggesting Hendrik Maertensz. Sorgh as direct influence and author at least in part. Numerous distinctive elements can be found in similar market scenes by Sorgh where, as here, a central elegant figure and other key participants are differentiated by bold colour and light from the muted tones and looser handling of background and secondary characters. Patterning and arrangements of specific colours - in this case accents of red/pinks, gold/yellow and grey/white - focus attention on key passages such as the interaction between the central figure and the fishwife to the far right whose cut of salmon echoes the woman's dress. Typical also are the displays of market fare - in this case fish - painted with care and considerable effect, the basket of plaice lower left balancing the fish on the stall to the right. Children and dogs playing or watching in the foreground are also found elsewhere in Sorgh's work, as is the diminutive woman carrying a wide basket on her head and the porticoed market area - perhaps loosely based on related structure/s in Rotterdam. A key note is struck by the fish-seller at centre whose pose echoes that of the Italianate statue of Neptune. Classicising elements such as the statue and sculpted portico - with their suggestion of roots in antiquity to underpin a sense of current civic pride - support a date of c.1665. The painting offers numerous complex and thoughtful passages executed to good effect - while certain areas indicate lesser studio hand/s. It includes two unusual historical details: well executed renderings of a hobby-horse clutched by the sulky young boy and of the handwarmer or muff carried by his mother. The handwarmer appears rarely in C17th Dutch art but was popular in Europe at times during the period - and is famously referenced in Samuel Pepys diary entry for 30 November 1662, which records how he borrowed one from his wife! For comparable work see Christie's, Amsterdam, 24 May 2016, Lot 73 ''View of a Fish Market'' by Hendrick Maertensz. Sorgh held by the Riksmuseum, Amsterdam

2007 Piaggio APE TM Tipper Transmission: manualMileage:2370The Piaggio Ape is a three-wheeled light commercial vehicle manufactured and marketed by Piaggio as an adaption of the company's Vespa Scooter. In continuous production since its 1948 introduction, it is offered in numerous body configurations to serve a wide range of utilitarian functions. The Ape was initially marketed as the VespaCar or TriVespa, but Piaggio subsequently marketed the utility vehicle just as the Ape, the word being derived from the Italian for ‘Bee’; its scooter marketed as the Vespa, meaning ‘Wasp’.Currently two model ranges are offered; the ‘Ape 50’ with a 49.8cc petrol engine and the larger ‘Ape TM’ which comes available with a 218cc petrol engine. On offer here is the larger TM version with its 218cc engine. Whilst not a motorway contender, it does give the little tipper plenty of power to haul around whatever you may wish. Its flashing orange hazard light above the cabin, fitted by its first owners, Essex County Council, was presumably fitted to warn other road users of urgent Essex Council business! As a council vehicle this little Ape is fully UK registered, something which can be problematic for such vehicles with today’s modern safety standards. The tipper bed is hydraulically operated, making for easy removal of whatever load it may contain. Both the ‘TM’ and ‘Classic’ models can carry 700 to 805 kg (1543 to 1775 lb), with fuel consumption for the Ape TM model being about 71 miles per gallon so, whilst not fast, it is very cheap to run. Supplied with its UK V5C registration document, this little Tipper would make for a fun little runabout or a great promotional vehicle for your company. Either way you can imagine being a charming Italian, driving around Rome or Lake Como, chatting and stopping for a coffee with everyone you see on your rounds.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1989 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Transmission: automaticMileage:67584The Mercedes-Benz W126 is a series of saloon vehicles manufactured from September 1979 as the successor to the earlier W116 line, the W126 being the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship to officially bear the S-Class name referring to Sonderklasse or ‘special class’. The W126 was initially offered in straight six, V8, and turbo diesel saloon models. Compared to its predecessor, the W126 was more aerodynamic, fuel efficient, capacious, and more powerfully engined. The W126 range also introduced many Mercedes-Benz safety innovations including the first airbag (supplemental restraint systems), seatbelt pre-tensioners, and traction control. The W126 had a twelve-year production run between 1979 and 1991, the longest of any S-Class generation since the flagship models were first built in the mid-1950’s.This delightful Mercedes-Benz was originally registered on 13th January 1989 and has covered 67,584 miles in its 32 years on British roads. The light blue coachwork is in very good order and the contrasting dark blue velour interior virtually unmarked. Clearly a very well cared for example, this 300 SE comes from the era when Mercedes-Benz were building cars that would seemingly last forever. Supplied with a V5C registration document and a current MoT test certificate valid until 1st February 2022, with only three previous keepers these W126 models are becoming increasingly rare-particularly in this condition.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1952 Morris Minor Transmission: manualMileage:51781The Morris Minor debuted at the Earls Court Motor Show on 20th September 1948. Designed under the leadership of Alec Issigonis, over 1.3 million examples were manufactured from 1948-1971 and, indeed, the 1,000,000th example was sold by Historics in 2015. Initially available as a two-door saloon and convertible, the range was subsequently expanded to include a four-door saloon in 1950 and wood-framed estate. Other changes included a modified dashboard layout with toggle switches, textured steel instrument binnacle and larger convex glove box covers. A different heater completed the interior upgrade whilst the larger, more modern combined front side/indicator light units, common to many BMC vehicles of the time, were fitted to the front wings.Detail on what appears to be the original buff logbook reveals that this 1952 Split Screen Morris Minor was supplied on 8th October to a Frank Newton of Georgeham, Devon and still retains the registration OTA 264. Presented in beautiful black coachwork with blood red trim, this example was treated to a full restoration in the early to mid 90’s by Autokraft, Brooklands (better known for their work on the Autokraft Cobra) and presents as if this was done just last year. This Series MM built example has been a stalwart of local shows and a regular attendee at Brooklands events and has been cherished for decades. Within the history file are countless MoT certificates, a photobook from Autokraft from the full restoration, the accompanying bills and receipts and of course the original buff log book alongside the new V5C registration document. Certainly, one of the best we have seen with fabulous history and, as an early split screen example, very desirable.Guide Price £10,000 - £15,000Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. After an extensive restoration where new carpets were fitted, new tyres and a respray was undertaken, this wonderful little classic Morris is good enough for any collector or just simply to be enjoyed on the road.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1984 Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible Transmission: manualMileage:45540This 1984 Rolls-Royce Corniche is a beautifully presented example of the first-generation convertible in outstanding order throughout, with intriguing early provenance and a strong maintenance history. It is powered by the 6.75 litre alloy-block V8 engine, which is driven through a three-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently reads 45,520 miles from new. This Mulliner Park Ward Corniche was originally purchased by a member of a Royal household from H.R. Owen in South Kensington and the dealer maintained the vehicle in its early years. More recently, the car has been recommissioned and fitted with SU carburettors for improved reliability, and we are informed is in excellent mechanical order. The distinguished bodywork of this Corniche is in superb order throughout and is finished in ivory contrasted with a blue soft-top and blue coachlines. The paintwork is in immaculate condition with no marks as is the chrome work. The roof itself was recently renewed and again is in superb order. The vehicle rides on a set of 15” wheels with ivory centre caps and a blue stripe detail around the rims, all of which are in superb condition. The interior again is in excellent order with very mild age-related patina as one would expect. The seats are trimmed with cream leather. It features black piping which is original to the car and the lacquered wood veneers present very well. All of the electrics and controls are original and work as they should. In February 2021 at 45,504 miles, recommissioning work was carried out, the starter relay was replaced, the brakes bled and new brake pipes were fitted. The Avon tyres are in very good condition with very little wear. There is a solid history illustrated in the original service book, dating back to the mid-1980s. The most recent MoT test certificate was issued on 17th February 2021 at 45, 509 miles, which resulted in a pass. This Rolls-Royce is an exceptional well cared for example and has been fastidiously maintained which is clear to see upon viewing. The vehicle has the original handbook, delivery note and service book, which displays 14 stamps dating from 1984 to 2015, supported by numerous maintenance invoices and MoTtest certificates. This Corniche is a very well-presented luxury cruiser, with early Royal provenance, and evidently benefiting from plenty of care and attention by previous owners. Following some light recommissioning, this Corniche is now ready to be enjoyed.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1965 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Coupé Transmission: manualMileage:70000With a production run that started in 1959 and finished in 1968, the Mercedes-Benz W111 series was the top of the range line-up for the German manufacturer. The addition of two-door coupés and cabriolets was made in 1961. These new models were the replacement for the two-door Pontons and factory prototypes show that Mercedes-Benz attempted to give the two-door car a front styling similar to the Pagoda roadster. The rear bodywork persisted and although officially called a fintail the rear end design had no chrome fin highlights. The coupé was premiered in Stuttgart for the 75th anniversary of the Mercedes-Benz Museum. This superb example is presented in light blue with wonderful red leather interior. It comes with a history file containing details of a detailed body and engine rebuild together with a CD providing evidence of work completed along with further invoice history of work carried out. This fabulous example of this iconic classic from the Germany manufacturer is exemplary in its condition and has won overtime many awards at Mercedes-Benz events. The ivory steering wheel and gear knob add to is nostalgic feel, particularly complemented by its fabulous interior which is extremely comfortable as with all Mercedes-Benz of this era are! The wooden instrument binnacle and screen surround have been treated to some honest updating, without losing the authenticity of her 50 years of life and the lighting has been upgraded with LED bulbs, without changing the lenses so that you wouldn't realise. Powered by its smooth six-cylinder engine mated to a manual gearbox, this stunning classic will turn heads everywhere. Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1972 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Coupé (3.5 Litre) Transmission: automaticMileage:91876In the summer of 1965, Mercedes-Benz launched its new replacements for both W 111 and W 112 saloons, the W 108 and W 109 respectively. In a bizarre twist of fate, this car's design was based on the W 111 coupé but widened and squared off as the fintail fashion was quickly fading by the mid 1960s. However, both W 111 and W 112 models were modernised; the 220 SE was superseded by the 250 SE which featured the new 2,496cc engine, producing 150bhp at 5500rpm, giving it a significant improvement in top speed. Visibly, the changes only affected the new 14 rims with new wheel trims; this was to accommodate the larger disk brakes and the new rear axle. In November 1967, the 250 SE was superseded by the new 280 SE. Inside, the car received wood veneer on the dashboard and other minor changes. A final model was added in August 1969, the 280 SE, 3.5 litre. It was fitted with the brand-new M116, 3,499cc, V8 engine with 200bhp at 5,800rpm, a top speed of 130mph and a 0-100 at 9.5 seconds. To accommodate the large engine, the car's front grill was widened and front bumpers were modified. This fabulous and original right hand drive example is the much sort after V8 example and is presented in pristine silver/blue metallic with light beige leather interior. The wood panels and facia are in exemplary condition throughout, as are all the leather seats. This model is powered by the strong and hugely desirable 3.5 litre V8 engine which is wonderful on long journeys, coping effortlessly with motorway cruising but is just as at home in the winding country roads. There is a substantial history file presented with this Mercedes-Benz which contains many invoices for work done over the years, accompanying this are original Mercedes booklets and many previous MoT test certificates. Restored to a very high standard by the current vendor, this car was taken back to bare metal and the body and chassis were repaired and treated where necessary, the photos on file showing just how thorough the restoration was. The engine, interior and paintwork were also extensively renewed by marque specialists and present in excellent order throughout. This is one of best examples of this model available on the market today.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. Buyers are advised to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out this service. Historics will not entertain disputes over descriptions.
1953 Austin Healey 100/4 Transmission: manualMileage:48405Historics are truly delighted to bring to auction what is without doubt the very best Austin Healey we have ever offered. It has been completely restored down to the very last nut and bolt by its current owner, a qualified engineer, over the last seven years, having been previously dry stored in a barn for a mere 36 years! Purchased from ourselves in March 2014, the fastidious owner wanted to restore the Healey to concours standard and uncovered some very interesting history along the way.Quite simply every part of this car has been restored as evidenced by pictures held on file and the attention to original detail is second to none. Finished in its original colour of Healey Grey i.e. light metallic blue with blue leather seats piped in grey, a blue PVC hood and full tonneau cover, everything about the vehicle is finished to ex-factory standard. The chassis and engine are the original items as fitted to the car and this is confirmed by the BMIHT certificate included in the history file. The engine has been fully rebuilt to run on unleaded fuel with new bearings, big end shells, timing chain and tensioner, pistons and rings and has also been balanced, resulting in a car that, according the owner, runs ‘like a sewing machine’, although with a little more power! The rear axle, overdrive unit and gearbox have also been overhauled by specialist Hardy Engineering who also fitted their last remaining NOS lay shaft to the gearbox.Although most small fittings and bumpers/over-riders were replaced, the owner was determined to retain the originality of the vehicle where possible. Many parts have been replated to the correct chrome or zinc/cad finish by Silva Bronz in Alton, Hampshire. Other items have all been extensively restored, including the grille, badges, switchgear and gear knob, distributor, coil, dynamo, starter motor, heater unit, fuel tank, sender unit, carburettors and steering wheel/column/horn assembly. The braking system has also been completely replaced as one would expect.NWD 980 was originally registered with the Donald Healey Motor Company in Warwick on 1st October 1953 as shown in the original buff log book and V5C that come with the car, with body number 235 and an ‘Austin of England’ boot badge which confirms this as an extremely early example of a BN1 Healey. The car even has the correct early two part dash finished in the correct dark blue paint from the 100S cars. Indeed, as the 25th oldest UK right hand drive example held on the AH 100/4 register it would be eligible for a host of classic car events including the Mille Miglia and various historic car events held at Goodwood and other notable venues.Furthermore, as this particular car was extensively raced in period at Goodwood and various other race and time trial events in the 1950's it is also eligible for a whole raft of historic events. Pictures of NWD 980 being raced at Goodwood and other South of England circuits along with other evidence are held in our files and are available for inspection.Whilst very little is known about NWD 980 from 1958 -1978, the first three years of its life were most exciting. A certain Harold Wakefield of Castrol Oil fame had a particular interest in MotoCross which in the 1950's was in its zenith. He had spotted that a couple of brothers - the Rickman boys - Derek aged 20 and Don aged 21, were totally dominant in the field and always came 1st or 2nd in all their races both in the UK and Europe. They had developed a Rickman Metisse competition motorbike with its famous nickel-plated frame/oil tank, on which they won most races they entered and were clearly destined for greater things. Harold wanted to get involved in a major way and offered the Rickman brothers a three year sponsorship deal. The offer was accepted and NWD 980 was delivered shortly afterwards to Derek's home near Southampton; a photograph in the history file shows the new car outside his house, a lovely momento given to the owner by Derek together with all the other black and white photos held in the file. His brother Don received another motoring classic - a Triumph TR2 - MCR 907. During the last seven years as the present owner has rebuilt the car, it has been featured in several magazine articles and has been a source of reference for a number of other local Healey rebuilds in and around the Thames Valley area. NWD 980 has been used sparingly since the rebuild but has proved to be a super car to drive as might be expected. Everything functions as it should and it is now ready to be thoroughly enjoyed by a new owner. To those of you who ask the obvious question ....’why sell it’?... the vendor answers thus; “I am really a fan of rebuilding classic cars, previous models include an MGC GT and an Austin Healey BT7...whilst they are a joy to drive, my pleasure really comes from doing all the repairs and reconditioning, it’s the attention to detail that I like and I think I might just squeeze in one more restoration before I hang up my tools”! A response which is certainly a blessing for the lucky new owner.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1910 Cadillac Model 30 Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:7052This wonderfully presented 1910 Cadillac Model 30 is fitted with a four-cylinder, 30hp engine and presents in very good order throughout. The paintwork is very good showing a light patina and the superb brown leather upholstery is heavily patinated. Combined with the stylish coachwork this example really is the epitome of excellence and makes for a very comfortable driving experience.During its life this Cadillac has been treated to various restoration work and has been fitted with an open two seat body, believed to have been fitted circa 100 years ago and widely recognised to be the more desirable of body styles. It comfortably seats two adult passengers, with the possibility of three, and since it is so light the car exhibits very strong performance. Many bills and invoices are present in the history file including bills for a recent overhaul of the gears, various engine work and a new crown wheel and pinion, the majority of work completed circa 50 miles ago, the Veteran Car Club framed certificate of date and two old stye buff logbooks are also present. The vendor reports that this Model 30 runs and drives very well indeed and is a pleasure to drive. It is started and exercised regularly and is ready for imminent use. 1970 Maserati Indy Transmission: manualMileage:89614Maserati followed up its stunning Ghia-styled Ghibli two-seater with the equally elegant Indy 2+2, though the latter, announced in 1968 and noteworthy as the first unitary construction Maserati, was the work of Carrozzeria Vignale. The Indy first appeared publicly in prototype form on Vignale's stand at the 1968 Turin Motor Show and was officially launched by Maserati at the Geneva Salon in 1969. The running gear was conventional, with independent front suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, while the power unit was, initially, the Modena firm's well-tried, 4136cc, four-cam V8, with 4.7 and 4.9 litre versions following. A ZF five-speed manual gearbox was standard, with a three-speed Borg Warner automatic available to special order. With 260bhp on tap, the top speed of Maserati's luxury four-seater was in the region of 150mph, a figure the subsequent larger-engined versions improved upon. The sleek Vignale coachwork was so effective that the Indy was able to carry four people in relative comfort without impairing its performance as a sports car. This sleek and attractive example of this iconic Italian sports car is presented light blue with white leather interior. The Maserati Club of Great Britain confirmed (letter in history file) that this car is a matching numbers example and is offered in the same external and internal colours as it left the factory with on 21st June 1970. It was first sold to a dealer in Modena, Italy and at some point in its history, it was shipped to Australia. It was probable that during its time in Australia, the car was converted from left hand drive to its current configuration. It is presented in wonderful condition throughout with its powerful 4136cc engine mated to a five-speed gearbox, providing good performance. This car comes with a significant history file containing many invoices from Australia and the UK which chronicles all work carried out over the years. A pretty car in lovely condition with a great history, this surely must be one of the nicest examples available today.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1989 Audi UR Quattro 10V Turbo MB Engine Transmission: manualMileage:139991Audi's headquarters are in Bavaria and the company have been a wholly owned (99.55%) subsidiary of Volkswagen AG since 1966, following a phased purchase of its predecessor, Auto Union, from its former owner, Daimler-Benz. Volkswagen relaunched the Audi brand in 1965, with the slogan or tagline of 'Vorsprung durch Technik' meaning 'Progress through Technology'. The Audi image at this time was a conservative one, and so a proposal from chassis engineer Jörg Bensinger was accepted to develop the four-wheel drive technology in Volkswagen's military vehicle for an Audi performance car and rally racing car. The performance car, introduced in 1980, was named the 'Audi Quattro', a turbocharged coupé which was also the first German large-scale production vehicle to feature permanent all-wheel drive through a centre differential. Prominent wins in rallying proved the viability of all-wheel drive racing cars and so the Audi name became associated with advances in automotive technology.Registered in 1989 this well presented example is the desirable ‘UR’ 10V MB model and is offered in Tornado red over a black leather interior. The paintwork is very good showing little sign of age and the leather interior is in fine order. The wheels have been refurbished and are in excellent order sitting proudly on a relatively new set of tyres with plenty of tread. The Quattro has had just six owners from new and comes complete with a sizeable history file detailing its past. Included in the file is the original book pack and service booklet with many service stamps present as well as various invoices for maintenance work, old MoT test certificates, and the UK V5C registration document. Acquired by the current vendor in September 2018, the Audi has been well maintained and has been treated to minor corrosion repair, notably to the seat belt anchorage points as advised on the last MoT. Only used occasionally in the current vendor’s tenure, he describes the car as sounding fantastic when on song; however due to his ill health the car was placed into a dry storage facility fourteen months ago where it is started and exercised when possible. Interested parties should note that having been dry stored some light recommissioning may be necessary. With MB Turbos offering 197bhp, a top speed of 143mph and a 0-60 time of 7.1 seconds, this is no sheep in wolf's clothing and still has the capability to see off competitors today.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. Accordingly, buyers are on notice that each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ subject to the Terms and Conditions for the auction. 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Transmission: automaticMileage:124757The Mercedes-Benz R107 was produced from 1971 through to 1989 and became the second longest single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz after the G Class. Sold under the SL model names, the R107 replaced the W113 SL Class in 1972 which was in turn replaced by the R129 SL Class in 1989. The SL variant was a two-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and hardtop and optional folding seats for the rear bench. Volume production of the first SL started in April 1971 alongside the last of the W113 cars. Of all the engine offerings the 280 remains sought after with the smaller 2.8 litre engine offering plenty of power but with the advantage of less weight and thus improved handling. The SL Roadster has since become the epitome of what a luxury roadster should look like and can be found from Aberdeen to Antibes and indeed in every corner of the earth and wherever the jet-set congregate. This good 1984 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Roadster has covered less than 8,000 since 2006, as confirmed by the MoT history. Purchased in 2014 with 124,300 miles on the odometer it has been fully maintained which has included having a new black soft top fitted in 2015 and new tyres at a cost of £450 each, which were fitted in 2016. More recently, during the last year, the interior was stripped out and the bulkhead repaired, the floors were treated, offside front suspension mount was replaced and a new battery fitted, at a cost of £4,000. It was also serviced and passed the MoT. This 280 SL Roadster is finished in red with matching red hardtop, contrasting light beige interior with the optional rear seat and is supplied with a UK V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in June 2022, and records going back to 2014. A car ready to be used and enjoyed this summer.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1998 BMW 840Ci Transmission: manualMileage:38469When the Klaus Kapitza designed 8 Series was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989, it felt like a glimpse into the future with its angular styling. An upmarket range with superior performance and price tag to match, the 8 Series was designed to be a standalone premium model although seen to be the successor to the 6 Series. The 8 Series was offered in 830i, 840Ci and 850i/Ci form and, when introduced in mid-1993, it was fitted with a 4 litre, V8 engine mated to either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. Producing a very healthy 282bhp, this version could achieve the 0-62mph sprint in an impressive 6.9 seconds; importantly with the naturally aspirated V8, acceleration was effortless and refined. Over $1 billion dollars are said to have been spent on the car's design with CAD design and wind tunnel technology. From mid-1995, production phased in the newer 4.4 litre M62B44 engine, which had better fuel economy and more torque, though power output remained unchanged.Originally supplied by the BMW main dealer in Hull, this very good 1998 BMW 840ci has only covered 38,500 miles from new and is believed to have belonged to a Member of Parliament and registered JIA 61. The car passed through a couple of members of his family until it was put into storage sometime in 2009 at approximately 37,800 miles, having always been serviced and maintained by BMW dealers. It was purchased by the current owner in 2019 who had seen the car parked in the garage for ten years and has since put it back on the road. This 840ci finished in silver with light grey leather interior has recently had a service and new MoT and is supplied with a UK V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in June 2022 and the complete handbook pack. BMW 8 Series are certainly becoming a more appreciated modern classic and this example with its low mileage will be quite sought after. What better way to enjoy driving than in this pillarless coupé.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1991 Mercedes-Benz 1991 Mercedes-Benz 500SL-32 Transmission: automaticMileage:79490Stuttgart supplied these grand-tourers with high levels of comfort including a fabric convertible top as well as a colour-matched and manually detachable hardtop that could be fitted over the stored fabric convertible roof. Other advancements included an electronically controlled damping and the famous hidden, automatically extending roll-over bar. These incredibly accomplished, five litre sportscars represent a truly advanced way to travel.Elegantly presented in classic burgundy with a black leather interior, unmarked split-rim alloy wheels and Falken high-performance tyres, this example has remained in the vendor’s ownership for over 17 years. The mileage is relatively low and servicing has been maintained until 2012 with the last by well-respected Mercedes-Benz specialists, SS Motors of Weybridge, Surrey. In addition, a fresh MoT test certificate and light service will accompany this lot. With fully functioning air conditioning and working three-memory seat memory, this example represents a solid, well-cared for example. With just two previous recorded owners, a full Mercedes-Benz book pack, original JVC stereo and CD changer and functioning factory alarm, this ticks all the boxes for classic open touring this summer. Interested parties should note that the automatic mechanism for this car is not operational. It will open and close manually, however.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1969 Jaguar XJ6 2.8 Transmission: automaticMileage:61240Launched in September 1968, the Jaguar XJ6 was the last model that Sir William Lyons had a, hands-on, input into the design. This new model was the result of several years of development and streamlined the extensive portfolio of models offered by Jaguar at the time. This new, reasonably priced car, managed to retain the principles of earlier Jaguars but offered a new level of driveability and safety. It created such a desire that second-hand models were achieving higher prices than new cars on dealership forecourts. These early models have outstanding ability and are considered by many enthusiasts as the purist form of Sir William Lyons’ design. This exceptional magazine featured early XJ6, was manufactured at Browns Lane on 8th December 1969 and was supplied initially to an engineering company based in Wolverhampton which is still trading today. An invoice for the sale of the car from 1970 for £2,468 is present in the history file. Finished in Jaguar Light Blue with dark blue Connolly leather interior, the car still retains all its early production features including chrome dials, straight exhaust pipe finishers, small rear lights, simple battery carrier with attached washer bottle, S1 wheel trims and original carpets. Servicing was initially conducted by the Jaguar factory service department but since 2000 it has been entrusted to Jaguar authorised retailers based in the Edinburgh area, or most recently by ex-Jaguar Classic technicians in Coventry, who carried out a major service and recommissioning work in 2020. In addition, the original engine was completely rebuilt by the respected specialist VSE in Wales, with only 11,000 or so miles covered since. The coachwork was restored at considerable expense by Classic Restorations in Scotland, renowned for their outstanding work on Rolls-Royce and Bentley vehicles. This included many new panels and a full repaint in the highly attractive original colour scheme. A considerable history file with numerous invoices accompanies ECG 438H, including the original owner’s manual and wallet, all the MoT test certificates since 1972, a number of vehicle tax discs, invoices for restoration, servicing and the engine rebuild and a copy of Jaguar World from 1993 which features this car and owner at the time. Offered to auction with a V5 registration document and a fresh MoT test certificate, this is a rare opportunity to own a stunning and highly original early Series I XJ. 1954 MG TF Transmission: manualMileage:2870Originally launched at the 1953 Motor Show, the MG TF was greeted with mixed reactions from enthusiasts and journalists alike. To the Abingdon engineers, led by Cecil Cousins, it was a model that was sufficiently different from its predecessors and yet continued the traditional T-Series classic lines and the end result was very pleasing to the eye. Interior wise and in keeping with the external modifications, the cockpit layout was quite radically different to that of its predecessor and formed a comfortable and pleasant place to be. Individually adjustable seats were provided in place of the normal bench type seating and the facia panel was completely new with a welcome return to octagonal instrumentation. Often referred to as 'the last of the square riggers' the MG TF gained this title due to its very strong resemblance to the pre-war MG Midgets. This lovely example of this British classic is presented in green with tan leather interior, light tan hood and comes with a rear mounted spare wheel and luggage rack. The first owner of this MG was a pilot with the Fleet Air Arm and the second owner was the Olympic British cyclist Brian Sandy who competed in the 1964 Olympics in Japan and it was the third owner (name not known) who restored the car. These MG motor cars of this era are often used in Rallies both here and in Europe as they are simple to maintain and spritely on country roads.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1986 Mercedes-Benz 500SL Transmission: manualMileage:136313The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class has been manufactured since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German 'Sport Leicht' or 'Sport Light' and was first applied to the 300SL 'Gullwing,' named after the upward-opening doors. The term SL-Class refers to the marketing variations of the vehicle, including the numerous engine configurations spanning five design generations. The Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 cars were produced from 1971 through to 1989, being the second longest single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz after the G-Class. The R107 took the chassis components of the mid-size W114 model and mated them to the larger engines from the S-Class (W116) and has become a benchmark of quality throughout the years. This example is presented in blue metallic with beige leather interior and comes with its factory hardtop. It comes with its maintenance booklet, invoices for services and repairs from May 2020 and April 2021 and has a current MoT test certificate which expires in April 2022. Presented in one of the best colour combinations and priced reasonably, this popular and sought after model is still the one to have!Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale. 1973 Mercedes-Benz 350SLC Transmission: Mileage:The R107 and C107 Mercedes-Benz SL variants have long been revered amongst classic car devotees, being built to exacting engineering standards and with a subtle air of sophistication. These cars were built from 1971 through to 1989, the second longest single series ever produced by Mercedes-Benz after the G-Class. The SL (R107) was a two-seat convertible with standard soft top, optional hardtop and optional folding seats for the rear bench. Its sibling, the SLC (C107) or ‘SL Coupé’ derivative, was a two-door hardtop coupé with normal rear seats. It was launched at the Paris Motor Show and signalled a shift in management thinking at Stuttgart about what made a successful luxury coupé. Sporting a longer wheelbase and sufficient interior room for four, the SLC was a sleek two-door car that combined the seating advantages of a four-door saloon with the style of a sporty coupé. Originally registered on 1st May 1973 this SLC is finished in light blue metallic and has a velour interior. We are advised the V8 engine starts and runs well. These cars are from the era when Mercedes-Benz were known for building the best quality cars in the motor industry. Supplied with a V5C and offered for sale without reserve. 1971 Austin A60 Van Transmission: manualMileage:90388The Austin Cambridge (sold as A40, A50, A55, and A60) was sold in several generations from September 1954 through to 1969 as cars and to 1971 as light commercials. It replaced the A40 Somerset but was entirely new with a modern unibody construction. The A40 number was re-used on a smaller car, the Austin A40 Farina, from 1958 to 1967. Initially the Austin Cambridge was only offered with a four-door saloon body and, although a few pre-production two-door models were also manufactured, they did not reach production. It had a modern body design with integrated wings and a full-width grille. Independent suspension was provided at the front by coil springs and wishbones but a live axle with anti-roll bar was retained at the rear, with drive to the wheels by means of a four-speed gear box controlled with a column-mounted lever. This A60 van was originally registered on 21st April 1971 and whilst it has been restored, it clearly has been a well looked after vehicle. The nature of a van is to be purchased for commercial use and as such generally have a hard life, but we are advised this example runs and drives well. To see an Austin Cambridge on the road is rare but to see a van is an exceptionally rare sight. Finished in grey with a red bench seat, this Austin is supplied with a V5C registration document and is offered for sale without reserve.Interested parties should satisfy themselves as to the description and condition of each lot prior to the sale.
