A lady`s 9ct gold wristwatch, signed Omega, 1949, lever movement, silvered dial with dot and Arabic numerals, Birmingham 1949, later bracelet with clasp stamped 9ct, 19mm wide, with Omega box 01.05.13, Case with light surface scratches and some minor dents to the sides, later added bracelet, dial has been totally restored, movement in going order.
A collection of ten various silver top and other cut glass jars, salts, etc. CONDITION REPORTS All quite dirty with some general wear and rubbing, and some light scratching. Circular silver topped jar : lid is very dented all the way around the outer edge, some staining to glass from general wear. Tall circular silver topped jar : is slightly squished down on one side with a pinhead size dent to centre of lid. Urn shaped lidded jar has an extremely large chip to the rim approx. 2 cm x 2 cm.
A box containing assorted 19th/20th century GWR Railway ephemera to include memos, reports, tickets, various late 19th/early 20th century maps, motoring manuals, cycling journal, souvenir albums, etc. CONDITION REPORTS Has clearly been well cared for, although all the paperwork shows signs of browning throughout and wear to edges and corners conducive to age. GWR Restaurant Car Facilities etc. : paperwork is particularly tatty to edges and has some foxing. Railway magazine 1907 : half the binding is missing top and bottom, is quite browned with some signs of foxing particularly down the edges, is in stable but used condition. Tickets : have all been stuck down onto two pages. Engineering details of the locomotives : all appear to be in reasonably good condition, folded straight down the middle, some browning, slightly dirty, and one is quite creased/folded at top corners. Map in plastic wallet : has folding marks and some ripping along outer edges where it has been folded. There are three folders of tickets which have not been stuck down - appear reasonable, with some original tearing to a couple, but otherwise appear overall reasonably good,. Selection of boxed photographs plus various small booklets - all appear to be in sound condition but with some browning and one or two with a little bit of staining., some fading to photographs. "Bonny Scotland" book is falling apart at the outer binding, and similarly the "Dunoon & District" booklet. Santon Calculator Electric Water Heating book : quite scruffy all around the edges on the cover, but interior is reasonable with some light browning. Cycling & Shipping ephemera again in similar condition, all used, with browning and wear to edges but reasonably sound, with one or two tiny tears. Various collections of maps (mostly folding, with covers) : all quite browned, quite tatty on all the edges, some ripping to folds, maps are not in the best of condition. Selection of wine labels : in used condition, quite yellowed and stuck down, some ripping, not in the best condition. "Elgin" photographs are all quite browned with a large amount of staining, particularly around the staples around the top and along top edges. "Lovely Lakeland" booklet is in poor and quite tatty condition. It is difficult to comment on each individual piece in this Lot - would suggest viewing in person if possible, as although clearly collected and stored with care, all items show signs of some minor damage, browning etc. throughout.
A modern pine two door wardrobe, the moulded pediment above two panelled cupboard doors opening to reveal a hanging space above two short drawers with turned handles and raised on a plinth base CONDITION REPORTS Appears in good sound condition, with some light general wear throughout, some knocks and bumps to edges from general use, handles are particularly faded with varnish rubbed off, one or two deeper knocks along the front of the wardrobe, colour otherwise is reasonable, just with signs of general wear.
THE MEDALS OF GENERAL SIR ROBERT IRVINE SCALLON G.C.B., K.C.I.E., D.S.O.J.P. (1857-1939), joined army in 1876, joined 72 Highlanders 1877, transferred to Bombay Staffs Corps 1877 Afghan War etc. Medals comprise K.C.I.E. in Garrard Box, DISTINGUISHED SERVICE ORDER (VICTORIAN GOLD), DELHI DURBAR MEDAL 1911, AFGHANISTAN MEDAL 1878-80 with bar, KABUL AND KANDAHAR STAR 1878-80, INDIAN GENERALS SERVICE MEDAL with 2 bars 1854-95, INDIA MEDAL 1895-1902, with 4 bars, all with ribbons, JUBILEE MEDAL 1935, CORONATION MEDAL, GEORGE VI, all with ribbons. SERVICE BIOGRAPHY: GENERAL SIR R. I. SCALLON General Sir Robert Irvine Scallon, G.C.B., K.C.I.E., D.S.O., (1857-1939), was born at Long Ditton, Surrey, and was educated at Sandhurst. Commissioned Second Lieutenant in 1876, he entered the Bombay Staff Corps from the 72nd Highlanders in 1877 and was appointed to the 23rd Bombay Native Infantry. During the Second Afghan War he served with the 29th Bombay Native Infantry (2nd Belooch Light Infantry) and was present at the actions at Khelat-i-Ghilzai and Sir-i-asp, and the March to and Battle of Kandahar on 1 September 1880. Having participated in General Daubeney’s somber expedition to the battlefield at Maiwand, he rejoined his own corps and was Mentioned in Despatches. He became Adjutant of the 23rd Bombay Light Infantry in 1881 and having held the post of Extra A.D.C. to the C-in-C Bombay, exchanged regimental employ for staff duties. During operations in Burma in the summer of 1886-87 he served as Staff Officer with the Kanle Column, and in the summer of 1887 greatly distinguished himself commanding the Myaing outpost and later the Myaing-Yaw Column. Sir George White and Sir R.C. Low respectively reported: ‘Captain Scallon of the 23rd B.N.I. has done service of a very marked character. He not only reduced the district to order by great energy as a Military Commander but further proved himself as a civil administrator of high order. I consider his advancement would be a benefit to the service’. – ‘During the last cold weather he has had command of a column, and has had many engagements with the enemy; and it was through his indefatigable pursuit of the leader Yakut, that this man was eventually captured ….’. Mentioned in Despatches and admitted to the Distinguished Service Order for services in Burma, Captain Scallon had the honour in 1890 of commanding the party which laid up the 23rd’s Colours in All Saints’, Kirkee, on the occasion of the corps being made a Rifle Regiment. In 1891 he was appointed D.A.A.G. and on 26 February 1892 was appointed 2nd in command of the 23rd Bombay Rifles. Promoted Major in 1896, he was Inspecting Officer of the Imperial Service Sappers and Infantry of the Punjab States at Jullllundur, 1895, 1898 and Sudan 1897-98. As the Officiating Inspector General of Imperial Service Troops, 1897, he took charge of them, Sappers and Infantry, on active service alongside the Regular Army at the action of Charger Isotal and the capture of the Sampagna Pass.
