1999 Mercedes-Benz C43 AMGRegistration no. T299 ROUChassis no. WDB2020332F798856Odometer Reading: 152,500MoT Expiry: 10/11/2020 *High-level specification including orthopedic front seats and xenon headlights*Owned by vendor for 11 years*New Michelin tyres and dics/pads within last 3000 miles The C43 was Mercedes-Benz' junior super-saloon, a small-yet-mighty stealth offering punching performance-wise way above that its size might have suggested. This example has been owned by the vendor for the last 11 years (during which 17,500 miles have been covered) and comes to market with very good metallic silver paint and bodywork, the latter showing good panel fit and the bumpers seemingly devoid of scratches and knocks. The two-tone (black and leather) interior is said to be very good and displays no signs of neglect or passenger carelessness, the door cards and dashboard being equally good. Our vendor reports the engine being very good for starting and running but the engine bay leaves scope for light cosmetics. Running gear is said to be excellent. History is described as good, the car being serviced by Mercedes-Benz to 121,000 miles and by independent workshops since then. This compact super-saloon comes with a good service history and has had new Michelin tyres as well as new discs and pads within the last 3000 miles.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 84/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. Property of a deceased's estate1948 Vincent-HRD 998cc RapideRegistration no. EBX 969Frame no. R3155Engine no. F10AB/1/1165 (see text)REAR FRAME NO. RC3155 (see text)CRANKCASE MATING NOS. L88/L88 Odometer reading: 693 miles, believed since restoration - not warranted MoT expiry date: Unknown•Present ownership since 1980•Extensively modified•Requires re-commissioningEver since the Series-A Rapide's arrival in 1937, the Vincent v-twin has been synonymous with design innovation and engineering excellence. But above all else it was the v-twin's stupendous performance that captivated motorcyclists. With a top speed approaching 120mph, and bettering it in the Black Shadow's case, the Vincent v-twin was the fastest road vehicle of its day.Vincent Owners Club records confirm this machine's upper frame number and engine number pertain to a 1948 Series-B Rapide while the crankcase mating numbers are correct for engine number 'F10AB/1 /1165'. There is evidence of an underlying stamp to engine prefix 'F10AB'; however, this is believed to be a factory error as the typeface appears correct. Rear frame number 'RC3155' is a non-factory re-stamp (note the additional 'C' and different typeface from that of the upper frame number, particularly the '3'). 'EBX 690' was first registered in Carmarthenshire and comes with an old-style continuation logbook issued in 1960, which erroneously records the frame number with an additional '5'. Two owners are listed, the second of whom, Mr Kenneth Johnson of St Helens, sold the Vincent to the late owner in February 1980 (sales receipt on file). 'EBX 690' incorporates numerous modifications including Lightning-type brakes, coil ignition, Amal Monobloc carburettors, alloy wheel rims, rev counter and clock, Black Shadow type speedometer, and only one rear brake. The engine turns over but it is not known when the machine was last run. Sold strictly as viewed, it will require re-commissioning or possibly more extensive restoration before further use. The machine is offered with a substantial file of history to include period photographs, bills, correspondence, old V5 document, MoTs, maintenance manuals, and an original Vincent Rider's Handbook.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 45/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo Type 996 CoupéRegistration no. HG52 BPZChassis no. WP0ZZZ99Z35680569*Delivered new in the UK*Full Porsche main dealer service history*Substantial recent bills of in excess of £18,000*Supercar performance Offering supercar performance in a compact and practical package, the turbocharged version of the Type 996 first appeared in 2000. Boasting four-wheel drive as standard, the new 996 Turbo was a thoroughly sophisticated and competent all-weather supercar, and although it went out of production in 2005, in day-to-day driving is still as quick as anything on the road. Although the Turbo is water-cooled, its engine is not the same as that of the regular 996. The Turbo's 3.6-litre Mezger engine can trace its ancestry back to the old air-cooled units and is directly related, not only to the 996 GT3, but also the GT1 racer. This engine has proved virtually bullet-proof and the stock 420bhp can be increased to 500bhp with confidence. The 2002 model, sometimes known as the Mark 2, also saw body revisions that increased stiffness, improving handling and crash safety. In 2002, the Turbo was offered with an 'X50' option that included larger turbochargers (K24) and inter-coolers, a revised ECU and exhaust that raised output to 450 horsepower. Other features introduced in 2002 were a glove box, centre-mounted cup holders, an optional Bose stereo, and rain-sensing wipers. Mid-range punch is the 996 Turbo's forte, and while 420bhp might not be a headline power figure today, it still feels seriously rapid. According to the vendor, the chassis and brakes are a perfect match for the engine's performance while the ride is taught but retains enough suppleness for long journeys to be completed in comfort. Both grip and traction are described as incredibly strong, promoting a feeling of supreme confidence. This fine example is definitely one for the purists: a driver's car with no cruise control, satnav or parking sensors. The car is finished in the signature 996 Turbo Arctic Silver with black leather interior and Porsche-crested headrests. It was delivered through Porsche Centre Bournemouth on 1st November 2002 and has a full Porsche Bournemouth service history. It presents beautifully today with an indicated mileage of just over 72,000 and has been appropriately serviced annually from 22/10/2003 at 3,833 miles to 16/11/2018 at 71,880 miles (15 services in total). Brake fluid changes have been made at regular intervals, on the most recent occasion at 71,880 miles.Few, if any, modem cars can offer supercar performance at this price level while at the same time offering Porsche's legendary dependability.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 80/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. Many were built but few have survived, making this 33,000 miles from new 1600 GXL (most GXLs were fitted with the two-litre engine) something of a rarity. The bodywork is rated as very good, as is the metallic brown paint (a re-spray was carried out in 1990), trim and Rostyle wheels/tyres. The matching brown interior is in very good order, with seats, door cards and dashboard showing little signs of wear or fading. Our vendor says the engine is good for starting and running and the engine bay is good too. Today the Z3 Coupe following grows with the rise of the modern classics movement and for the would-be owner this Japanese-market, left-hand drive example riding on beefy alloy wheels has the stance and the presence to appeal to any buyer with an eye out for later, less mainstream models. This example has good bodywork and black paint and a generally good interior, the black leather seats (with red stitching) showing some use but without neglect. The vendor says the engine is good for starting and running and that the running gear is in generally good order. It comes with some history. Property of a deceased's estate1953 Velocette 349cc MACRegistration no. 602 XUFFrame no. RS3003Engine no. MAC 17893Odometer reading: 22,771 miles not warrantedMoT expiry date: 18 May 2009•Dating from the first year of sprung-frame MAC production•Believed an older restoration•Requires re-commissioningIn 1933 Veloce Limited augmented its established range of overhead-camshaft models with an overhead-valve 250 - the MOV. The newcomer's power unit was a 'high camshaft' design with enclosed valves, and the compact and sprightly machine featured a four-speed gearbox equipped with the company's new foot-change mechanism. The following year an overhead-valve 350 built along MOV lines appeared. This was the long-stroke MAC, which was subsequently bored out to create the 500cc MSS. Post-war, the trio of overhead-valve Velocettes continued much as before, with rigid frames and - initially - Webb girder forks. The MAC gained an alloy cylinder barrel and 'head for 1951, as well as Velocette's own telescopic front fork in place of the previous Dowty, and was further updated with a swinging-arm frame in 1953. The MAC was last produced in 1960.Dating from the first year of sprung-frame MAC production, this apparently nicely restored example was purchased by the current registered keeper in November 2012, being described by the seller at that time as in beautiful condition, and cosmetically to a very high standard (sales receipt and advertisement on file). The age-related registration was issued in 2007, which is possibly when the machine was restored. The engine turns over but it is not known when '602 XUF' last ran or its present mechanical condition. Sold strictly as viewed, the machine will require re-commissioning or possibly more extensive restoration before further use. Accompanying documentation includes a V5C document, expired MoT (2009), and the aforementioned paperwork. An original service manual and spare parts book are included in the sale.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 50/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 2018 Traditionally Built Wooden-Hulled Speedboat *Unique: built at a cost of £80,000+*Nearly-new – running in hours only*Ford turbo diesel engine for power and economyThe thought of owning a Riva Aquarama might appeal to many classic car owners, but values are such they are out of reach to many. The more affordable and practical solution is this bespoke one-off that was completed in 2019 at a cost of more than £80,000 + vat. Commissioned by a wealthy enthusiast who wanted the style of an Aquarama but not the cost, the result uses modern materials with traditional teak decks, with power coming from a modern 145hp Ford turbo diesel driving through a Castoldi water jet for greater manoeuvrability. Measuring 20ft long and with a 7ft beam, this just-run-in classic speedboat offers all the enjoyment without the high cost. Offered with a custom trailer this really is the complete package!Footnotes:Please note the build was completed in 2018 and also includes a full cover, Victron battery charger and invertor for on board 240v sockets.Vendor Score Total: 100/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. The Jaguar was then restored and converted to right-hand drive, and shortly thereafter was sold to a Mr Frederick Jones of Sunderland (in September 1991).In July 1997 the E-Type was purchased by Mr Justin Noxon, who commissioned a major restoration by Newlands Motors, classic car specialists of Forest Row, Sussex at a cost of over £17,000. At this time the engine was rebuilt, an unleaded conversion was carried out and 'hot' camshafts fitted. The car was also subject to a gearbox rebuild; the radiator was re-cored and Kenlowe fan was fitted. The car was rewired; suspension and braking system refurbished with up-rated brakes (XJ6 front callipers and Coopercraft rear); and a roll bar and race harnesses installed.Next owner Jonathan Kidd acquired the E-Type in May 2001. Property of a deceased's estate1956 AJS 348cc Model 16MSRegistration no. 758 XUPFrame no. A48652 (see text)Engine no. 56/16MS 30084Odometer reading: 109 miles believed since restoration, not warrantedMoT expiry date: 25 May 2010•Present registered keeper since June 2009•Believed older restoration•Requires re-commissioningHonest and workaday, the typical British '350s' of the 1950s were chosen chiefly for their inherent strength, dependability, and economy rather than outright speed. Announced in June 1945, AMC's offerings in this important market sector were the Matchless G3L and AJS Model 16, models identical in all essential respects. The pair shared the same 93mm stroke as their 500cc brethren, coupled to a 69mm bore, and could be distinguished by the different magneto position: forward of the cylinder in the AJS, behind it in the Matchless. Housed in a rigid frame with Teledraulic front fork, the rugged overhead-valve engine drove through a four-speed gearbox. Hairpin valve springs were adopted for 1949 and a swinging-arm frame introduced, the latter initially for export only but available in the UK from 1950, machines so-equipped being suffixed 'S'. Testing one of these stalwarts in 1961, Motor Cycling recorded a modest mean top speed of 76mph but found that when toured at a relaxed pace across country, an excellent 86mpg was achievable. Apparently restored, this AJS 16MS has its frame number stamped in two locations: correctly to the saddle tube and also to the headstock, the latter being a non-factory stamping. It is not known when '758 XUP' last ran or its present mechanical condition. It should be noted that the kickstart mechanism is jammed, but the engine does turn over when the machine is pushed in gear. Sold strictly as viewed, the machine will require re-commissioning or possibly more extensive restoration before further use. Belonging to the present registered keeper since June 2009, this AJS motorcycle is offered with a V5C document and a photocopy 'AJS Practical Guide covering models from 1945'.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 42/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. Today the classic market warmly embraces it. The engine/chassis are not matching but this well-presented 1954 model benefits from an engine and gearbox overhaul by specialists Four Ashes Garage, since when only 500 miles have been covered. There has been further expenditure on a new clutch, brake linings, wheel cylinders and a wiring loom, and on the road gearbox and brakes gain a vendor-supplied very good assessment. Hamburg-based Thomas Weber Aston Martin upgraded the steering to rack-and-pinion specification which mirrors that used in the DB3S and is vendor-reported to 'vastly improve the driving experience'. The bodywork is owner-assessed as very good, as is the engine bay, with the British Racing Green paintwork reported to be good. DBD34GS 3918 (see text)• Part of deceased's estate• Uprated to 499cc• Clubman's trimOdometer reading: 317 miles believed since restoration, not warrantedMoT expiry date: 9 August 2010In 1954 BSA introduced the CB Gold Stars – the first of what came to be known colloquially as the 'Big-Fin' types. This was further refined and endowed with increased power output for the DB types which followed a year or so later. Whilst this was the final iteration of the 350, the 500 was further uprated in 1956 to what has become, for many, the ultimate version of the Gold Star, the DBD34. Unsurprisingly, from that point on, many wanted to own the DBD version, and for some, with the older, less powerful models, the easy way to do this was simply to slip in a replacement DBD motor as the cycle parts for the previous swinging arm types were so similar. This appears to be what has taken place with FSJ 175. Frame CB32 6433 started life as a 1957 DB32, and, at some point, a previous owner has fitted a 500 engine with a non-factory stamped engine number. This breathes through a 38mm MkII Amal Concentric carburettor, and transmission is via a RRT2 gearbox. Equipped with an 8-inch front brake, and valanced alloy rims, FSJ represents an economy entry into 500 Gold Star ownership.Last MoT'd in 2009, FSJ's engine turns over but it is not known when the machine last ran or its present mechanical condition. Sold strictly as viewed, the machine will require re-commissioning or possibly more extensive restoration before further use. Prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the suitability and compatibility of the component parts of this machine, together with its authenticity.Documentation comprises a current V5C, an older-type V5C, older V5, some expired MoT certificates, a dating certificate showing incorrect date, and miscellaneous papers.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 49/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. One of only five on UK roads, this 1993 VG40 model is said to have very good bodywork and good paintwork and trim – the vendor notes there is a slight indentation to the rear bumper and a minor touch-up to an offside door. The interior has vendor-ranked good seats (there is a minor cigarette burn to the front passenger seat cushion) while headlining, dashboard, carpets and door cards are said to be very good: the original lace seat and headrest covers are still fitted. Our vendor reports the engine to be excellent for starting and running and the underbonnet presentation is described as very good, but the bonnet strut is missing. The gearbox and suspension are said to be very good, the brakes and axles excellent. New brake lines (custom fabricated) and rear electronic air shock absorbers have been fitted, along with a custom-made pitman arm. The electrics are noted to be good but the vendor says replacement front door window gears are required, as is an air-conditioning belt and speed sensor. This model comes with factory fitted rear television and VHS cassette player, two detachable front wing flagpoles, and original sales and maintenance brochures. Never sold new in Europe this Century makes a rare and interesting luxury saloon.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 78/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. Today it enjoys an almost cult-like status in the modern classic sphere, offering both a serious turn of speed and room for a couple of Labradors in the boot. The vendor has owned this 2001 example since 2008 and it is described as having very good bodywork and trim (the front bumper is devoid of scratches or chipping), and excellent condition metallic silver paint and wheels. The black leather interior has lasted well and is reported to be very good throughout. Engine starting and running is said to be excellent, components as excellent and the engine bay's presentation is reported to be very good. The electrical system is vendor-assessed as excellent for main components and very good for ancillary components. DA10R 14961 (see text)• Part of a deceased's estate• Replica of iconic British twin• Requires re-commissioningOdometer reading: 5,651 miles, believed since restoration - not warranted MoT expiry date: 28 February 2011The Rocket Gold Star was introduced in 1962, running through only to 1963, and approximately 1500 examples of the model were sold before it was discontinued. Thereafter, perhaps due to its rarity, it certainly captured the imagination of many, and it became a feature of most collectors' wish lists, which, in turn, led to it being copied many more times than it had ever been made. THY 940 was purchased by the deceased owner in 2010 (receipt on file). Last MoT'd in 2010, THY's engine turns over but it is not known when the machine last ran or its present mechanical condition. Sold strictly as viewed, the machine will require re-commissioning or possibly more extensive restoration before further use.It should be noted that the frame number is not a factory stamping. The engine began life fitted to a Golden Flash, and when uprated to Super Rocket style with the alloy cylinder head etc, someone has inserted an 'R' in the engine number to denote the change. The 'R' does not appear on the V5C. The gearbox is stamped RRT2, but this is not a factory stamping, so the internals are unknown. A tachometer is fitted, driven from the timing chest magneto position.Prospective bidders must satisfy themselves as to the suitability and compatibility of the component parts of this machine, together with its authenticity. The enduring popularity of machines such as this is the attraction of owning a machine which looks, and performs, just like the real thing at a fraction of the price. ZDMA2C 000899Odometer reading: 7,153 km - not warrantedMoT expiry date: 21 July 2011•With the present (third) owner since 2010•Requires re-commissioning•Trademark 'trellis' frameThe arrival of Ducati's all-new, eight-valve, water-cooled v-twin 851 Superbike in the late 1980s led to a comprehensive re-structuring of the range, the appearance of this range-topping WSBK contender creating a niche for a series of super-sports roadsters. That gap would be filled first by the 900SS that arrived in 1991, reviving one of the great model designations from the Bologna factory's past. The newcomer used a development of Ducati's long running 'belt drive' v-twin motor, designed by the legendary Fabio Taglioni, that had first appeared in 1978 in the Pantah 500. Air-cooled and with two-valves-per-cylinder, the 80bhp 900SS was simpler, easier to maintain and, of course, less costly than the 851 Superbike. In style though, it gave nothing away to its more exotic cousin, having the same distinctive 'trellis' frame, now an established Ducati trademark. Handling was, needless to say, exemplary. 750SS and 600SS versions followed. Relatively light (395lbs) and nimble, and with a maximum power output of 60bhp, the 750SS was no sluggard, boasting a top speed of more than 124mph. Purchased by the late (third) owner in 2010, this Ducati 750SS currently displays a total of 7,153 kilometres (approximately 4,400 miles) on the odometer and is presented in age-related condition. It is not known when the machine was last used, although the presence of a 2011-expired tax disc may be an indication. Requiring a replacement battery, no attempt has been made to start the Ducati, which will require re-commissioning or possibly more extensive restoration, including a major service and change of cam belts, before returning to the road. Accompanying paperwork includes correspondence, a V5C document, expired MoTs, and the original instruction manual and warranty/service booklet (blank). Large-capacity v-twins have been Harley's stock-in trade since the Edwardian era, their various incarnations progressing through countless technological developments that continue to this day. Towards the end of AMF's 1970s stewardship though, the company's future looked less than assured, so the success of the Low Rider was all the more welcome. Styled by Willie G Davidson and introduced for 1977, the Low Rider was the latest in the FX custom/cruiser line that had commenced in 1971 with the Super Glide. But whereas the latter was positioned mid-way between the Electra Glide and Sportster, the Low Rider was a bolder statement altogether. Its raked out forks, stepped seat and minimalist looks were clearly a nod in the direction of the chopper movement, which had been restyling Harleys in this manner for decades. Low and mean-looking, the first Low Rider set new standards of 'cool' among production motorcycles that have yet to be surpassed.Offered here is an example of the Low Rider Sport, a variant newly introduced for 1987 that featured improved suspension and a smaller front mudguard. Acquired by the late (second) owner in January 1994, the Harley boasts a Supertrapp Performance silencer and a carburettor air scoop, and currently displays a total of only 2,664 miles on the odometer. It is not known when the machine was last run and whilst the machine cranks, it does not start. Property of a deceased's estate2006 Triumph 790cc Bonneville T100Registration no. CN56 EZLFrame no. SMTTJ910TM6245478Engine no. 246542Odometer reading: 4,208 miles - not warrantedMoT expiry date: 21 September 2013•Present ownership since 2009•Requires re-commissioning•Fitted windscreen, engine bars, passenger backrestEver since the re-emergence of a newly revitalised Triumph in 1990, enthusiasts had been eagerly waiting the revival of the Bonneville brand, one of the most evocative names in motorcycling history. Ten years would elapse before Triumph felt ready to do so, having by then emphatically established its credentials as a builder of thoroughly modern motorcycles rivalling the best from Japan and Europe. Triumph's design brief for the new Bonneville was to emulate the classic style of the late 1960s version while incorporating the best of modern technology in the engine, transmission and running gear. The need to recapture the sound and feel of the original meant that the power unit had to be an air-cooled parallel twin with 360-degree crankshaft, while applying similar criteria to the cycle parts dictated wire-spoked wheels and a twin-shock rear end. At 790cc (initially) the new 8-valve engine was bigger than any preceding Bonneville while a balancer shaft - something the original could have done with - was deemed essential to dampen vibration inherent in the traditional engine architecture. The new Bonneville debuted to critical acclaim at Munich in 2001 and before long the concept had been expanded to include cruiser-style Bonneville America, super-sports Thruxton and various other models such as the T100. Acquired by the late (fourth) owner in July 2009, this Bonneville T100 currently displays a total of only 4,208 miles on the odometer. Well equipped, it boasts a windscreen, engine protector bars, and a passenger backrest. It is not known when the machine was last run and although the machine cranks, it will not start. Sold strictly as viewed, it will require re-commissioning or possibly more extensive restoration before further use. Offered with a V5C document and other paperwork.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 52/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. In the UK, Italian scooters were adopted as favoured transport by the 'Mods', becoming one of the enduring style icons of the 1960s. Predecessor of the Li and TV series, the LD arrived in 125cc form in 1951 and became available with 150cc engine three years later. The LD 150's air-cooled two-stroke single-cylinder engine produced 6bhp (1.2bhp more than the 125) giving the model a top speed of around 50mph. LD production continued until the end of the 1950s. Believed to be original and unrestored, this LD150 displays 'Lambretta Conessionaire Ltd, Wimbledon' plaques throughout and is fitted with air-intake side panels. The machine turns over but does not fire into life. Accordingly, the machine is sold strictly as viewed requiring recommissioning or restoration to a greater or lesser extent. 1914 Le Zebre Model CRegistration no. BE 5893Chassis no. 3965Odometer Reading: TBAMoT Expiry: Exempt *Restored over 20 years*Featured in 'The Automobile' magazine*Comes with some spares As the light car introduced motoring to more people numerous manufacturers sprung up to meet that demand, including Le Zebre, which operated from 1911 to 1931. This Model C was restored over 20 years with the intention of being as accurate as possible, leading to the purchase of another model to provide a replacement engine, gearbox and wheels. The body – seasoned ash skinned in sheet steel with new wings, presents very well, as does the yellow and black paint, while the wheels/tyres are reported to be good. Seats were re-trimmed in leathercloth and are said to be excellent and the mahogany dashboard and linoleum floor in very good order. The engine – sourced from the donor car – currently has no oil or water so will require light re-commissioning and the running gear too is said to be good. An electric starter has been fitted. 1934 Talbot AV95/105 Alpine ReplicaRegistration no. BGH 664Chassis no. 38036Odometer Reading: 52,000MoT Expiry: Exempt After avid Brooklands entrant and St Albans garagiste W. M. (Mike) Couper had taken part in the 1933 Alpine Trial in his Talbot AW90 he suggested that the factory enter a team of three cars for the 1934 event '... to prove that the AV105 with its 3-litre Roesch-designed engine was still better than anything else in the world... which the public might tend to forget after two years' absence from competition.'No rival manufacturer - including Bentley - could yet approach the Talbot's power output per litre. The Talbot engine was also more robust than those offered by Bentley and Lagonda while the recently-adopted pre-selector gearbox was a significant advantage on Alpine roads. Three new works AV105 'Alpine Racer' Team Talbots were built in the spring of 1934; BGH 21 was allocated to Tom and Elsie ('Bill') Wisdom, BGH 22 to Hugh Eaton and BGH 23 to Mike Couper. All three of Couper's team Talbot 105s finished the gruelling 1934 Alpine Trial in excellent shape and the Talbot and Adler teams were finally judged equal winners of Group II, both teams winning coveted Alpine Cups. Talbot's record of seven official entries in three separate Alpine Trials with not a single mark lost by any car, and the highest possible award won in each event, was unprecedented. After a total of 3,600 miles, Wisdom said '...fuel consumption had averaged 18 mpg and oil 1,700 mpg'. Minimal maintenance was needed en route and '... no car in the world could have given less trouble or performed better ...'. Several successful Brooklands seasons followed - the most significant era in Talbot history.BGH 664 was built in Talbot's Barlby Road factory in March 1934 as AV95 chassis no. 38036 with a 10' wheelbase and delivered un-bodied to Messrs Tozer Kemsley and Millbourn on 23rd April 1934. It is thought that the chassis was exported in this form to Australia and bodied there. After WW2 the car found its way to South Africa and into the well-known Talbot collection of Bryan Smith, who at the time also owned the original 1934 Alpine Team car, BGH 21, purchased by the Wisdoms after the Alpine Trial event. After Smith's death his vehicle collection, including a number of Talbots in various states of repair, was returned to the UK.Around this time, BGH 664's chassis, otherwise identical to that of an AV105, was shortened by 6' to the correct 9'6' wheelbase and re-bodied as an 'Alpine Racer', using dimensions taken from an original car. At some juncture engine no. BA697 from 1935 was fitted, along with an overhauled pre-selector gearbox.More recently, BGH 664 has been comprehensively mechanically restored for the current owner by marque specialist I.S. Polson (bills on file) with half an eye on the Flying Scotsman and other great events. Work included the fitment of a freshly overhauled and well-known engine no. 95AV95 (as installed in BGH 22 for most of the '70's through to the '90's). 1927 Bentley 3-Litre Speed Model Sports Roadster Registration no. JO 377Chassis no. TN1559*Originally a Weymann saloon by Gurney Nutting*Substantially known ownership history*Present ownership since 1998*Recent extensive professional refurbishmentWith characteristic humility 'W O' was constantly amazed by the enthusiasm of later generations for the products of Bentley Motors Limited, and it is testimony to the soundness of his engineering design skills that so many of his products have survived. From the humblest of beginnings in a mews garage off Baker Street, London in 1919 the Bentley rapidly achieved fame as an exciting fast touring car, well able to compete with the best of European and American sports cars in the tough world of motor sport in the 1920s. Bentley's domination at Le Mans in 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929 and 1930 is legendary, and one can only admire the Herculean efforts of such giants as Woolf Barnato, Jack Dunfee, Tim Birkin and Sammy Davis, consistently wrestling the British Racing Green sports cars to victory. W O Bentley proudly unveiled the new 3-litre car bearing his name on Stand 126 at the 1919 Olympia Motor Exhibition, the prototype engine having fired up for the first time just a few weeks earlier. Bentley's four-cylinder 'fixed head' engine incorporated a single overhead camshaft, four-valves per cylinder and a bore/stroke of 80x149mm. Twin ML magnetos provided the ignition and power was transmitted via a four-speed gearbox with right-hand change. The pressed-steel chassis started off with a wheelbase of 9' 9½' then adopted dimensions of 10' 10' ('Standard Long') in 1923, the shorter frame being reserved for the TT Replica and subsequent Speed Model. Rear wheel brakes only were employed up to 1924 when four-wheel Perrot-type brakes were introduced. In only mildly developed form, this was the model that was to become a legend in motor racing history and which, with its leather-strapped bonnet, classical radiator design and British Racing Green livery, has become the archetypal Vintage sports car. Early success in the 1922 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, when Bentleys finished second, fourth, and fifth to take the Team Prize, led to the introduction of the TT Replica (later known as the Speed Model) on the existing 9' 9½' wheelbase, short standard chassis. Identified by the Red Label on its radiator, the Speed Model differed by having twin SU 'sloper' carburettors, a higher compression ratio, different camshaft and the close-ratio A-type gearbox, the latter being standard equipment prior to 1927 when the C-type 'box was adopted. These engine changes increased maximum power from the standard 70 to 80bhp and raised top speed to an impressive 90mph. Other enhancements included the larger (11-gallon) fuel tank and (usually) André Hartford shock absorbers. Bentley made approximately 1,600 3-Litre models, the majority of which was bodied by Vanden Plas with either open tourer or saloon coachwork.According to leading marque authority Dr Clare Hay's definitive work, Bentley: The Vintage Years, chassis number 'TN1559' was completed in January 1927 and left the factory fitted with engine number '1566'. Originally bodied by Gurney Nutting as a Weymann-type saloon and first registered 'YE 1140', the Bentley was first owned by Captain W G Horne. The rest of its history prior to WW2 is uncertain, but at the war's end the car was purchased from Roy's in Kenilworth by a Mr Lloyd, who owned a metalworking business in nearby Leamington Spa. It was claimed that the owner previous to Mr Lloyd had been one of the late Sir Henry Segrave's mechanics and that he intended to race the car. He had removed the original saloon body, which was not included in the sale. Very nicely done, the current lightweight two-seater body dates from the immediately post-war period and was built by the car's then owner. In the ensuing years the Bentley passed into the ownership of Tony Judd, who raced it, destroying the original engine when it threw a rod. The engine was replaced with the current unit (number '343') which dates from 1923. Tony sold the Bentley through Stanley Mann Racing to Mr David Jenkins. David Jenkins lived near Cardiff and enjoyed owning the car for around four years. He also owned a Tiger Moth, which he flew from Rhys airfield, and lost his life as the result of a flying accident. During his ownership David Jenkins twice drove the Bentley to Le Mans with his wife to witness the 24-hour race. The current vendor bought the car, via a broker, from his widow in May 1998.During the vendor's early ownership he too drove the Bentley to Le Mans to watch the 24-hour race (in 2000 and 2001) and also drove it to Bruges, Belgium on a private tour with a group of 12 Bentleys. At the lunch stop, Jimmy Medcalf stated that the car had been travelling at a respectable 70-75mph on the motorway, while his brother Bill Medcalf, another Bentley Drivers' Club stalwart, remarked on how pretty it is. The only major mechanical work carried out concerns the crankshaft bearings, which have been re-white-metalled by renowned engineer, Arthur Archer of Great Dunmow. The body and chassis, though, have recently undergone extensive renovation by SJD Classic Restorations (Steve Downs) of Southminster, Essex. SJD disassembled the entire car, removing all bodywork from the chassis and stripping it of all mechanical components. The chassis and axle assemblies were then sand-blasted, prepared, primed and repainted. The aluminium body panels were removed from the timber frame and any rotten elements replaced. All bodywork was stripped back to bare metal and any damaged or corroded sections cut out and replaced with new aluminium. All panelling edges were replaced and the body tub skin refitted to the repaired frame. The wings, bonnet and scuttle were similarly repaired with new metal, as were the dickey seat lids, following which all bodywork was prepared, primed and repainted prior to refitting to the chassis. Other works carried out included repairing the wiring loom; fitting new shock absorbers and wheels; and re-plating the nickel brightwork, repairing it as necessary. Dated October 2019, SJD's invoice for £43,602 is on file. According to the vendor: 'The car has bags and bags of charisma and is a great joy to drive. It goes fast thanks to the lightweight body and stops quickly as well! In its current condition it has been described as 'resplendent''. 'TN1559' has also featured in four editions of the BDC Review (details available). A wonderful opportunity to acquire a unique 'W O' Speed Model Bentley, benefiting from recent extensive professional refurbishment.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 75/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. Property from a Deceased Estate1938 Bentley 4 ¼-litreCoachwork by Freestone & WebbRegistration no. CTF 148Chassis no. B66LSMileage: TBAMoT: Exempt *Previously owned by collector Gordon Wiley*Attractive colour combination*Interesting earlier correspondence Featuring Freestone and Webb razor-edge 'brougham' sports saloon bodywork with single sidemount, this 4 ½-litre has been restored in the past and was running when it was put into storage. Sold new to Lancashire resident Herman Rawlinson it was in the hands of Douglas Hall in May 1952 (as detailed by the 1953-issued continuation logbook), followed by Stafford dealer Charles Clark & Son and, in October 1957, was in the hands of William Crump, before moving to Nottinghamshire and Clement Oscar Day. Bentley specialist Ristes carried out an extensive restoration in the late 1970s and it was bought by Gordon Wiley in 1996. In addition to the continuation logbook Ristes' invoices covering the period 1978 to 1980 detail the work carried out. Today the black over red bodywork effects a delightful art deco air and the patinated maroon interior is believed to be the original. Some re-commissioning will be required. With unusual, attractive Freestone and Webb 'brougham' sports saloon coachwork this 4 ¼-litre will require some light re-commissioning. Property from a Deceased Estate1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Westchester SedanRegistration no. YSU 476Chassis no. 31841AOdometer Reading: TBAMoT Expiry: Exempt *A ground-breaking design*Seldom offered in sedan form*Good history The Cord 810 (and its supercharged 812 sibling) remains one of the 1930s most important car designs, binning much of what had gone before and while not entirely starting with a clean sheet, like the same-period Chrysler Airflow re-visited the way a car should look and perform. While not as revolutionary as the Citroen DS would be at its launch two decades later, the Cord's bought-in Lycoming V8 drove the front wheels while designer Gordon Buehrig's design offered ultra-clean lines with retractable headlights and a lack of running boards. By the 1950s American enthusiasts saw the Cord as a classic, a status it still holds today. Imported in 1990 this supercharged Cord 812 was restored 10 years ago (bills on file) with work that included stripping the bodywork, repairing and fabricating panels where required and re-building the engine, whose work alone came to more than £17,000. Other work included re-building the engine and tasks such as grinding and polishing crankshaft big ends – bills detailing the work are on file. An opportunity to buy a comprehensively-restored example of this seldom-seen, ground-breaking American model. Property from a deceased estate. Offered in delightful older restored condition, running and driving really well this is an opportunity not to be missed. 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom II 40/50HP SaloonCoachwork by H.J. Mulliner Registration no. GP 2446Chassis no. 49GXOdometer Reading: TBAMoT Expiry: Exempt *Rakish Mulliner bodywork*Interesting period correspondence*Engine runs but believed to have big end fault Arguably one of the most significant of pre-war Rolls-Royce models, the Phantom II Continental' engine featured raised compression for a greater power delivery, that equating to around 90mph for models with closed bodywork. Popularity was assured and it sold across the world, coachwork of all forms being supplied by numerous companies. This 40/50 Phantom II Continental is fitted with H.J. Mulliner sports saloon bodywork in black with vinyl roof and sunroof, with two spare wheels mounted at the back. First owner Sir W.H. Peat, C.B.E. kept the car until 1959 and a year later the engine and gearbox were overhauled: in 1962 the coachwork was overhauled and in 1965 it was awarded the 'most elegant car of all' award at the 1965 Rolls-Royce and Bentley Concours d'Elegance, held at Blenheim Palace. After some time in Switzerland it was bought by the late owner from Charles Howard in 1998. The tan interior is believed to be original. The engine does run but a suspected big end has picked-up. With its appealing, rakish looks this Phantom II Continental comes with early correspondence and presents well, but requires some re-commissioning. 1930 Buick TourerRegistration no. CB 9820Chassis no. 2437515Odometer Reading: 97,645MoT Expiry: Exempt *Same family's ownership for 27 years*Imported from Hershey in 1993*Engine running reported to be very good From the 1920s onwards, larger American cars were designed to cross the USA with the minimum of fuss, their larger-displacement engines making light of long distances and inclines, their high ground clearance shrugging off less sophisticated road surfaces. This 1930 Buick Tourer is an example from that period, and it comes to the sale with vendor-rated very good body and glass, the maroon paintwork being between good and very good order, the vendor says. The interior, which features cream-coloured seating, is according to our vendor generally good to very good. Power comes from a 5.4-litre engine, which is reported to be very good for starting and running and good for presentation: running gear, including clutch, brake, steering and suspension is said to be very good and the electrical system good. Some history comes with this lot. Acquired by the family from Hershey, USA, this Buick Tourer comes from long-term ownership and presents well. Rebodied in England shortly after import and is now a practical relaxed touring car ideal VSCC events.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 69/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. HXN 662Chassis no. 74805Odometer Reading: 47,700MoT Expiry: n/a *Older restoration*Replacement engine believed to be a Gold Seal unit*Affordable small sized-ration book-era saloon The Series E offered post-war motorists with a restricted budget the opportunity to buy a small, well-built family saloon and today its ethos makes equal sense in the classic world. This example has average black body and paintwork, the latter requiring improvement and the tan leather interior has the original seats (said to be in average condition), dashboard and carpets being in the same order. Headlining was replaced during the previous restoration and is said to be good. The engine, believed to be a Gold Seal unit, is reported to be good for starting, very good for running and good for presentation (the vendor reports it sounds and runs sweetly) and has the underbonnet tool kit: the running gear is generally good. Electrical main components and ancillaries are said to be average and the original semaphore signals have been replaced by bumper-mounted indicators. The car's first owner was Robert Day Film Production Ltd of London SW14.In December 1976, the car passed into the ownership of Cyril Humphries of Essex and by this time had been repainted Carmen Red. The Jaguar had three further owners, all in Essex, and in January 1996 was inspected by Cartwrights, being described as in first class condition, only requiring a handful of minor works to bring it to concours standard. It was then sold to Bespokes Classic Car Hire Ltd of Watford. In May 2001 a replacement engine (number 'ZA2643-8') was sourced from VSE and fitted, and in October 2004 the car was acquired from West Barn Classic Ltd by the Classic Car Club of London N1. The current vendor bought 'LFF 810' from Epping Motor Company in February 2007.Since then the Jaguar has been extensively campaigned and enjoyed, as detailed in the vendor's fascinating personal log of all activities, maintenance work, expenditure and mileage totals (perusal recommended). Events attended and venues visited include the Goodwood Revival; Norwich Union Run; Circuit de Reims; Circuit Paul Armagnac, Nogaro; Circuit des Ramparts, Angoulême; Beaulieu Autoumble; and Brooklands. The car's most recent adventure involved an extended tour of France in September/October 2018, during which it covered 1,835 miles in three weeks with no problems apart from a couple of easily fixed fluid leaks. The aforementioned log shows that 'LFF 810' has been maintained with no expense spared while in the vendor's long-term stewardship. Major works undertaken include an engine overhaul by marque specialist Alan Collins in the winter 2011/2012, and overhaul of the suspension, brakes, and steering by JD Classics in August 2014. JD Classics also fitted a pair of refurbished 2' SU HD8 carburettors, replacing the standard (and worn) 1¾' items, together with a suitably modified inlet manifold. In April 2016 extensive bodywork repairs and full re-spray were carried out by Splined Hub; bonnet louvres were cut at the same time, and the interior woodwork re-lacquered and veneer on dashboard panels replaced. Described by the vendor as in generally good condition, this obviously much-loved Jaguar Mk2 is offered with a V5C document; bills relating to the 2016 restoration; and the aforementioned log.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 79/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. Offered from a distinguished private collection,1964 Jaguar Mk 2 3.8-Litre 'Coombs Replica' Sports Saloon Chassis no. 2335171964 Jaguar Mk 2 3.8-Litre 'Coombs Replica' Sports SaloonRegistration no. HPA 700CChassis no. 233517Odometer Reading: TBAMoT Expiry: Exempt*Rebuilt to 'Coombs' specification in the mid/late 1990s*Manual/overdrive transmission*Discreetly upgraded*Present ownership since April 2016A progressive development of the Mark 1, Jaguar's first unitary construction saloon, the Mark 2 made its debut in October 1959. Slimmer windscreen pillars and deeper side windows greatly enlarged the Mark 2's glass area, and the deletion of its predecessor's full-sized rear wheel spats allowed the rear track to be widened, a move which increased roll resistance and stability. Otherwise, the running gear remained much the same as before, with independent front suspension by wishbones and coil springs, leaf-sprung live rear axle, and Dunlop servo-assisted disc brakes (optional at first on the Mark 1 but standard from November 1957) on all four wheels. A redesigned dashboard with speedometer and rev-counter ahead of the driver and minor gauges grouped centrally established Jaguar's layout for years to come. With the Mark 2's arrival, the 3.8-litre version of Jaguar's XK 'six' became available for the first time in the company's medium-sized saloon. This engine, used previously in the Mark IX saloon, produced 220bhp at 5,500rpm, an output sufficient to propel the top-of-the-range Mark 2 to 125mph. Transmission options were a four-speed manual (with or without overdrive) or Borg-Warner automatic gearbox, an improved all-synchromesh version of the former being specified from 1965.The superb example offered here has been restored and rebuilt in the style of the racing Mark 2 saloons prepared and entered by Guildford-based Jaguar dealer John Coombs in the early 1960s. A Jaguar/Daimler dating letter on file reveals that chassis number '233517' was originally finished in dark blue with light blue trim (the same as it is today) and was retailed via Henlys. The Jaguar retains its original registration number, 'HPA 700C'.This car's history is not known prior to 1989 when it was acquired by Mr Ongun of London, to whom the aforementioned letter was addressed. Next owner Mr Vann acquired 'HPA 300C' in 1992 and it was he that commissioned its restoration. The no-expense-spared rebuild was commenced by marque specialists Three Point Four and completed in November 1997 by Scott-Moncrieff (see bills and photographs on file). The car was subsequently re-trimmed by renowned experts Suffolk & Turley. Its specification includes a rebuilt, balanced, and tuned engine; 2' SU carburettors on matching manifolds; front anti-roll bar; Koni shock absorbers; up-rated coil springs to the front suspension; Coombs-type rear wheelarches; Coombs-type chromed wire wheels; Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel; Pioneer stereo system; and discreet period-style circular mirrors to the window frames. The Jaguar remained with Mr Vann for the next 20-or-so years before being sold to the current vendor, a prominent private collector, by which time it had covered only some 8,000 miles since the restoration and was still in 'exemplary condition'. While in the vendor's care, 'HPA 300C' has been fastidiously maintained by Red Triangle, as evidenced by their bills on file.Presented in generally excellent condition, this discreetly upgraded 3.8-litre Mk2 is offered with the 2016 purchase receipt, copies of old V5/V5C documents, and the aforementioned invoices, etc.Footnotes:Vendor Score Total: 85/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH. 1977 Ford RS2000Registration no. RLT 248RChassis no. GCATL97706Odometer Reading: One mile since restorationMoT Expiry: 28/1/2020*Complete nut and bolt restoration*Rarely seen in this condition*Sensibly guidedEven the most distanced classic market watcher cannot have escaped the rising values of fast Fords in the past, but those with a blue oval appreciation would already have known about their excellent engineering, handling and performance, usually clothed in a relatively everyman bodyshell. The problem for today's would-be owner is finding a suitable car, so for anyone in the market for a Mk2 Escort RS2000, MPH proudly suggest this 1977 example. It was bought by the vendor two years ago and given a full, complete and intense nut-and-bolt restoration. The results speak for themselves or, as out vendor says, 'you won't find a better example on the market!'. It is clear the attention to detail cannot have been bettered: the bodywork and paint attest to careful execution, whether it is the straightness and alignment of the body panels, the application of the red paintwork or even the presentation of the external black trim, it is in the engine bay that attention to detail lives on. The interior is equally outstanding – seats, carpet, door panels and dashboard demonstrate a showroom-new air that is all-too-often never properly achieved. Equal attention has been applied to the car's underside and also its mechanicals, the vendor reporting the engine and the running gear are in excellent order throughout. In all, a thoroughly tempting offering for any fast Ford enthusiasts, or anyone who likes everyman performance cars from the pre-hatchback era. Please click the link to view the walkaround video of this lot: click hereFootnotes:Please note the odometer reading is 17.Please note the correct chassis number is GCATSL97706Vendor Score Total: 100/100Bidders should note that the automated 100-point Seller's Assessment is provided by each Seller at the point of consignment using the guidelines below, and is not provided, assessed or verified by Bonhams MPH.
