THE BEATLES - HAPPINESS IS A WARM GUN (IN YOUR HAND) - ORIGINAL EMIDISC 7" ACETATE RECORDING. A quite wonderful piece of Beatles history with this original Emidisc 7" acetate of 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun In Your Hand' (the track shortly after being shortened to 'Happiness Is A Warm Gun'). One of only 2 known copies to be produced. The recording is pressed on a single-sided acetate record, the printed Emidisc labels with handwritten "Happiness Is A Warm Gun In Your Hand 45 Beatles' with 'In Your Hand' crossed out. This earlier take of the track contains a different mix of the final commercial release (noted with the Tuba more present in the mix) and also contains John Lennon singing 'I Need A Fix 'Cause I'm Going Down' twice in a row in the first bridge section rather than just once in the final commercial release. The record is in VG condition. Well-presented, there are some surface marks and scuffs with some light signs of wear to the metal lacquer. The record plays without any problems with only light surface noise and no skips/jumps. An insight into the fascinating recording history of this track and indeed the production of the acetates can be found in Mark Lewisohn's book 'The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions':"Session date: 25th September 1968. A tuba that happened to be in the studio was overdubbed on this day, presumably played by Paul, although its presence is nearly indecipherable in the finished product. The enjoyable time they had performing these overdubs, understandably, were what caused John, George and Paul to all claim that this song was their favourite on the 'White Album'. By 5 am, the group left for the morning, satisfied that yet another track for the album was "in the can."The lights in EMI Studios weren't exactly turned off quite yet though. Between 5 and 6:15 am, the engineering team of Thomas, Scott and Sheady worked at creating a usable mono mix of the song, two attempts being made during these early morning hours. These weren't deemed usable, however, but acetates were created of one of these mixes for The Beatles to hear, the acetate discs being labelled with what was still considered as the songs' title, “Happiness Is A Warm Gun In Your Hand.”Paul was eager to play the acetate of this exciting new song to his recently acquired new girlfriend Linda Eastman (soon to be his Mrs.) who had just moved in with him at that time. However, it was decided that some of the overdubs needed tweaking which facilitated new mono mixes being created. The same engineering team of Thomas, Scott and Sheady got to work on this later that same day in the control room of EMI Studio Two, starting at about 7 pm on September 26th, 1968. A decision was now made to shorten the title of the song to "Happiness Is A Warm Gun" since the documentation on this day reflects this change. The tuba was placed lower in the mix this time around, as was the organ overdub."

The Great Train Robbery - Ronnie Biggs (1929-2013) - a collection of x4 A4 autographed photographs of Biggs, each with crude captions. Includes a photoshopped image of Biggs alongside Jack Straw, one titled ' A Great Night Out At The Jack Mills Head ', one 'Up The Queen' and another makes use of the famous press photograph 'The Empty Seat'. Each signed in black marker to light areas by Ronnie. All obtained personally by the vendor. The Great Train Robbery was the robbery of £2.6 million from a Royal Mail train heading from Glasgow to London on the West Coast Main Line in the early hours of 8 August 1963, at Bridego Railway Bridge, Ledburn, near Mentmore in Buckinghamshire, England. After tampering with the lineside signals in order to bring the train to a halt, a gang of fifteen, led by Bruce Reynolds, attacked the train. Other gang members included Gordon Goody, Buster Edwards, Charlie Wilson, Roy James, John Daly, Danny Pembroke, Jimmy White, Ronnie Biggs, Tommy Wisbey, Jim Hussey, Bob Welch and Roger Cordrey, as well as three men known only as numbers "1", "2" and "3". A 16th man, an unnamed retired train driver, was also present. With careful planning based on inside information from an individual known as "The Ulsterman" (erroneously named as Patrick McKenna in 2014), the robbers escaped with over £2.6 million (equivalent to £53.5 million today). The bulk of the stolen money was never recovered. Though the gang did not use any firearms, Jack Mills, the train driver, was beaten over the head with a metal bar. Mills' injuries were severe enough to end his career. After the robbery, the gang hid at Leatherslade Farm and famously used the money in a game of Monopoly - unwittingly incriminating themselves whilst doing so as the Monopoly set was used to garner finger prints of the suspects and was instrumental in the Police arresting most of the gang. The ringleaders were sentenced to 30 years in jail.

From the author's biography (16th century), Franciscan from the Algarve province, we only know that he traveled throughout Europe, especially in Italy, and lived for almost three years in the Holy Land, having passed through Trento at the time of the third phase of the Council. O "Itinerário" is an account of his troubled pilgrimage, led by Friar Bonifácio of Ragusa, in which about 60 priests took part. The title page presents, in the centre, the coat of arms of D. Miguel de Castro, Archbishop of Lisbon; the next three pages, framed by xylographic frames, include the royal charter, the dedication to D. Miguel and a message to devotees looking forward to visiting the Holy Land. The text of the trip is developed in the following 301 sheets, after which there is a "tavoada" in three sheets, with identical frames, ending with a small engraving of Death; there follows the index, which occupies three sheets and presents, at the end, an engraving with the coat of arms of Portugal; in front of the last sheet, the errata, framed by two xylographic elements: "Erros deste lilvro"; on the back, another full page engraving with the coat of arms of Portugal. Complete copy, slightly trimmed (carmine edges), with light handling; restoration on the lower outer corners of the first 16 and last 14 sheets; some sections appear to have been washed, namely those that have been restored. The copy belonged to Prof. Freiras Simões (ex-libris on the back cover and stamp on the flyleaf). Full burgundy morocco 20th century binding with gold ornamental borders on the covers and panels closed on the spine (with some wormholes); rolls on the squares and traced in gold on the thickness of the covers. Dick Simms (American, B. 1932) "Buckboard 1880s" Signed lower right. Original Mixed Media painting on Illustration Board. Provenance: Collection of James A. Helzer (1946-2008), Founder of Unicover Corporation. This painting is the original painting which was published on the Fleetwood First Day of Issue Maximum Card for the U.S. 4.9c Buckboard 1880s stamp issued June 21, 1985. Before the advent of the automobile and other modern forms of transportation, the horse-drawn carriage was one of the most popular ways to travel. Through the years, carriages were developed to fit particular needs, especially road conditions. One of these specialized carriages was the buckboard. The buckboard was especially suited for use on rough country roads which made it popular in the American west. The sturdily built buckboard was able to haul people and supplies along deeply rutted and unpaved roadways. Because of its tough but light construction, it was able to travel into remote areas a larger freight wagon could not go. A low-slung vehicle, it had one or more seats which were placed on risers mounted on one or more flexible, spring like boards bolted directly to the axles. In later years, some models of the buckboard were equipped with springs. Image Size: 12.25 x 16.75 in. Overall Size: 14.75 x 19.75 in. Unframed. (B09481)
