A DERBY LOBED DISH AND MATCHING PLATE, C1795 painted with a central group of flowers in Smith's blue and gilt border, 22 & 21.5cm diam, puce painted mark and 127 or 100 respectively, the latter with exhibition label Provenance: William Wheeldon (d1874) the nephew of William Billingsley; Collection of Miss Margaret Ward of Derby, her executors sale in these 'rooms, 22 April 2004, lot 191 to the late father of the present vendor. Exhibited: Derby, Midland Counties Works of Art Exhibition 1870 (label indistinctly inscribed Wheeldon) ++Dish in fine condition but for one or two light scratches to the painting, plate also in good condition with slight stacking wear to the glaze when viewed at an oblique angle to the light and wear to the gilding on the rim.
