The brass feet / buttons have some light wear / eroding. Otherwise general wear and tear conducive with age and use to include a small bruise to one corner of the cube. See images for further detail. The covers could be conserved and restored, but again require a good deal of repair.

Born in Mobile, Alabama in 1862 Florence Chandler, aged 19 travelled to England and met Liverpool cotton merchant James Maybrick and the couple married in 1881. James Maybrick fell ill and died on 11 May 1889 and his wife was accused of poisoning him with arsenic.She was convicted and sentenced to death but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. She spent more than 14 years in prison, mostly hard labour before being released in 1904, whereupon she returned to the US after her citizenship was restored, and died in penury in 1941.There was some later supposition that James Maybrick, or his brother Michael were Jack the Ripper suspects. The case attracted huge public interest at the time on both sides of the Atlantic.
