A Chinese Ge ware double gourd vase,18th/19th century, with a later wood stand of double gourd form, the grey glaze with an even widely spaced dark grey crackle interspersed with fine light gold crackle lines, the base unglazed and dressed in brown with clearly visible potting rings. The wood stand of later date." Ht (vase) 7.7cm, (vase and stand) 9.8cm Excellent condition with no restoration View on auctionatrium.com
A Chinese peach bloom vase, 18th century, with a wood stand of globular form with a short foot and a narrow flaring neck, glazed in deep pink and red of varying tones with flambe effects and an overall light crackle, the so called peach bloom glaze, the foot with areas where the glaze has been neatly ground away to provide a clean finish, the glaze itself rising to the top of the neck which is finished on the interior with a light buff crackle glaze, the interior of the foot being ,similarly glazed. The paste of the foot and the quality of the glaze indicate a dating to the eighteenth century; the matching wood stand, nineteenth century. Purchased by the vendor in Singapore in the 1960s." Ht 12cm (vase), 20cm (vase and stand) Excellent condition with no restoration. View on auctionatrium.com
A Chinese Lang Yao glaze vase, 18th/19th century of squat pear shape form with a wide neck and a short spreading foot pierced to each side, covered in a faintly variegated deep red Lang Yao glaze with minute glaze bubbles which rises to the top of the piece and pools slightly at the base, the foot with an elaborate poem in gilt calligraphy composed by the Emperor Qianlong. The poem on the base of this vase reads "The red glaze on the vase is varied-the light red looks like red glow after rain, and dark red seems like a fire in roast. This colour is unmatchable. It is impossible to compare the colour with vermilion the most beautiful colour in red or the gem in West. If you put a flower in the vase, even the flower will feel shameful about her plain colour; if you want to make a painting of the vase it will be just a vain try. Many people think the origin of the red glaze ware was from Xuande reign" [Ming Dynasty] " but actually in Song Ren-zong reign" [Northern Song Dynasty] " the red porcelain was already being produced in Ding ware. Composed by Qianlong in the cyclical year Yimo" [AD 1775] " and inscribed by imperial order" The first seal reads Yu (by imperial order) and the second Qian - long A similar piece to this vase can be seen in the Beijing Palace Museum " Ht 22cm Excellent condition with no restoration View on auctionatrium.com

A detailed log of the rescue voyage of HMS Comet from Port Jackson in Australia to Pitcairns Island, dated between December 27th 1830 and February 27th 1831. The six page log is embellished with four monochrome watercolours of the North and South heads of Port Jackson, Cape Brett New Zealand, a small village on the eastern side of the bay where the sloop landed on the island and a sketch of the entire island, Pitcairn, the latter initialled JBB. It begins with why the log was written and goes on to describe specific people on board, the weather conditions, descriptions of the natives of New Zealand and details of landing at Pitcairns and talks with the natives to leave highlighting that they had not had any rain for fourteen months. Accompanying the log is an ink drawn map displaying the voyage to Pitcairn and back via Tahiti. (split along all folds) The inhabitants of Pitcairns Island had been suffering from a lack of water when in 1830 the British Government ordered that they should be rescued and settled in Tahiti. HMS Comet, under the command of Captain Alex. A Sandilands, along with the Lucy Ann, a Barque from Sidney, set sail on December 27th 1830 and, after stopping in New Zealand to replenish stores, they, according to the log, observed Pitcairns at first light on the 27th February 1831. Eighty seven inhabitants were boarded onto the Lucy Ann and arrived in Tahiti on March 6th to be warmly received by Queen Pomare. Provenance. From the collection of the late Commander B. J. De St Croix D.S.C, RN
