Dame Lucie Rie (1902-1995). A fine stoneware conical bowl, with a bronzed manganese and brown band running into a pitted beige and cream glaze, on a slender foot, impressed seal mark, 25.5cm diameter, H. 9cmCONDITION: This bowl is in good condition. We can see no evidence of any repairs or restoration. The surface glaze is generally pitted. There are no chips to the top rim. There are three very minute nibbles to the unglazed bottom edge of the foot. There is a firing fault and slight spur to the rim on both sides where there is a longer drizzle of manganese. We can detect no restoration with a UV light.This was purchased from the Casson Gallery and described as LR8 white with bronze rim, for £120 - receipt dated Jan 21 but no year!
A Chinese famille rose 'landscape' bowl, Daoguang four character seal mark and probably of the period, decorated with a view of houses around an island, calligraphy to the reverse, black seal mark to the base and prunus decoration internally, H.7cm diameter 18.5cmCONDITION: A little light wear to the enamelling, rubbing to the gilding around the rim otherwise very good.
James Walter Marshall. A late 19th century French ormolu cased quarter repeating carriage alarm clock, with signed enamelled Roman dial and movement striking on a bell, width 3.75in. depth 3.25in. height 5.75in.CONDITION: Case with a matted gilt finish worn down to the base metal in many places, dial with some light dirt spotting but otherwise good, hands look original, dial with the word Paris beneath 6 o'clock, back door glass with chipping near the lower right corner, escapement possibly original, movement runs but not tested for timekeeping, repeat function partially striking but out of sync, backplate engraved slow/fast alarm at the top, hands above alarm hand and James Walter Marshall, Paris lower down, numbered 909.
An early 20th century French ormolu mounted white marble desk timepiece, surmounted with two lovebirds above a paste bezelled floral painted enamelled dial, width 3.5in. depth 2.25in. height 6.26inCONDITION: Overall in good honest condition, marble is a little dirty and would benefit from cleaning, ormolu is a matted light golden tone, dial perfect, hands look original, some very fine fritting to the marble surround on the right hand front of the plinth, movement looks to be a watch type movement with later escapement RA engraved upon it and numbered 283, movement not going.
A.B. Savory & Sons of Cornhill. A late Victorian ormolu mantel clock, with trophy, flower and bell husk decorated case, enamelled Roman dial and Sevres style pink porcelain plaques to the base, eight day movement signed by Savory & Sons with JBD stamp numbered 28527/14-7, width 12.5in. depth 5in. height 12in., with associated giltwood plinthCONDITION: Overall a little tarnished with the ormolu somewhat matted and varying in tone from a toffee colour to a light gold, dial in good clean order, does not appear to have ever been glazed, hands look original, porcelain plaques good but slightly out of alignment, plinth looks associated, movement complete but lacks a pendulum and not tested for timekeeping.
A Louis XVI style ormolu mounted white marble clock garniture, decorated with goat's head motifs, the mantel clock with floral painted arabic dial and unsigned eight day movement, clock height 15.75in. urns height 11.75in.CONDITION: Overall in good condition, ormolu is a very light golden tone with more rose gold tone to the mounts on the plinth, slightly rubbed at the extremities from polishing, hands looks original, dial good, movement going but not tested for timekeeping, comes with pendulum and associated key.
A Charles X French bronze and Sienna marble mantel clock, surmounted with the figure of a riderless horse, the architectural base with engine turned silvered Roman dial signed Noel Aine à Dijon, width 12.5in. height 17.25in.CONDITION: Overall in somewhat neglected condition, the bronze very dirty and dusty, horse is a dark chocolate patination with some light rubbing to the extremities, naturalistic base below the horse is a lighter golden green tone, case with some chipping and cracking at the edges and damage to the lower inset plinth section, movement not going, dial faded.
Barraud & Lund, Cornhill, London. A Victorian gothic cased oak eight day bracket clock, with silvered dial numbered 1872 and unsigned twin fusee movement striking upon two blued steel gongs, width 16in. depth 10in. height 24.75in.CONDITION: Case has been repolished at some point and now has a rather light shiny tone, a section of moulding missing beneath the spire and both columns missing from the left and right sides, dial looks to be in good untouched condition but would benefit from a clean, movement complete with pendulum, further small loss of moulding to the front left corner of the case, fret work side panels in fair order, comes with a case key, metal grille to the back door a little pushed in, lower left corner of the back door broken away and missing, unsigned movement with heavy adjustable pendulum, lacking its locking bar, complete but not tested for timekeeping. An early 18th century style crossbanded walnut bachelors chest, with burr wood inset folding top, two short and two long drawers, on bracket feet, W.2ft 4in. D.1ft 2in. H.2ft 4.5in.CONDITION: Overall of a faded mid to light walnut tone which is a little more bleached on the top, the top flap is warped out of shape and shows small dents, scratches and minor cracking commensurate with age, inside the folding top the veneers have lifted a little and have a number of fine cracks running throughout, back boards are vertical pine, lopes have small bronze knob handles, drawers have fairly thick oak lining, original locks, probably later handles and a working key, some lifting of the moulding between the drawers, middle drawer has the escutcheon out of place, drawer linings to the base of the drawers are separating, bracket feet with minor dents and chips commensurate with use, looks to be an old probably 19th century reproduction.
A George I walnut gaming table, with eared serpentine rectangular top, scallop shell carved serpentine frieze and shell kneed cabriole legs with paw feet, W.3ft 4.5in. D.1ft 8in. H.2ft 5.5in.CONDITION: Overall of a light reddish walnut tone, top with a very slight upward curve of the flap, some fading and one fine hairline crack running across from the back right side, interior relatively recently lined in baize which is worn at the edges, has candle recesses and wells for gaming counters, all four legs are carved in the round, signs of old dents, cracking and repairs around the frieze and lower on running down through the legs, one more noteworthy repaired split on the inside of the front left leg but further repairs to all of the legs including infilling of worm holes particularly near the feet.
A George II walnut bureau, the fall enclosing pigeon holes and short drawers over two short and three graduated long drawers, on bracket feet, W.3ft 2in. D.1ft 8in. H.3ft 4.5in.CONDITION: Overall of a light honeyed walnut tone, somewhat faded down from its original colour, paler on the top and the fall, darker at the sides and the drawer fronts, overall with light bulging at the top, inward bulging of the slope and slight outer bulging at the left side, and commensurate old splits within the veneers, top has some water ring damage, fall does not close perfectly it has a slight curve from left to right and therefore sticks out at the lock point, no key present but original lock fitted, interior looks original with some mould and ink stain damage, handles are later, drawer locks look original but again no key, feet probably original but worn with losses to the veneers and discolouration, overall an honest bureau but in need of some restoration.
A mid 18th century oak dresser, with boarded three shelf rack, three long drawers and two panelled doors on shaped bracket feet, W.5ft 10in. D.1ft 8in. H.7ft 2in.CONDITION: Rack probably associated with the base and has certainly had later boarding to the back, otherwise in fair but used condition, top of the base with typical scratches wear and dents from use, front with a light golden oak to mid brown tone, original locks but no key, central panel to the front has a horizontal split, fair wear and tear to the feet.
A George III mahogany chest on chest, with dentil cornice, two short and three graduated long drawers over three further long drawers flanked by stop fluted reeded pilasters, on bracket feet, W.3ft 10.5in. D.1ft 11.5in. H.6ftCONDITION: Overall of good rich light reddish brown mahogany tone in a fair state of polish, unusually handles fix with screws from the front, screws look to be later replacements, escutcheons are pinned from the front and may include some later pins, no key present but locks all look to be original, minor wear around the feet but overall in very good clean condition.
