Having taught himself Gaelic he was welcomed into the Rathgar/Dublin literary world under the pseudonym of Dermot O'Byrne. Friends of W.B.Yeats, AE, Padraig Pearse et al his written works overtly promoted the myths and legends of the Celtic world against colonial suppression. "A Dublin Ballad" - Bax's emotional response to the Easter rising of 1916 - was never officially published as it was suppressed by the British censor in Dublin. This collection represents the whole of the "O'Byrne" output (bar one anonymously published volume of 1923).
