A Pygmalion Sonata Compact No 21 in the form of a grand piano, contained in original box and with slip cover, a further compact decorated with flying ducks and three handbag mirrors.Condition Report: Sonata compact appears unused, mirror has detached from lid (glue has dried) but is present, box has light surface wear. Compact with ducks has light surface scratching. Mirrors are in generally good condition with light surface scratching and some slight discolouration.

Wright (John Michael) An account of His Excellence Roger Earl of Castlemaine's embassy, from His Sacred Majesty James IId. King of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, &c. To His Holiness Innocent XI, first edition in English, engraved frontispiece and vignette dedication leaf by Arnold van Westerhout after Giovanni Battista Lenardi, engraved portrait by Robert White and 15 plates, including 1 large folding depicting a banquet, by Westerhout after Lenardi and others, large folding plate with splits at folds and some staining, some spotting and light staining, lightly browned, contemporary half calf, spine ends and corners worn, rubbed, [Wing W3702; cf. China.- Gospel in Chinese.- Gutzlaff (Karl Friedrich August ) [The Perfect Man's Model], title (printed on bright yellow paper) and 30 ff., fore-edge trimmed, affecting side-notes, some water-staining towards end, mostly light, original stitched wrappers, water-stained, 236 x 130mm., Singapore, Jian xia shu yuan (the publishing arm of American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions), 1836.⁂ Rare Chinese language version of a Christian gospel printed in Singapore. Singapore rapidly became a major trading hub in the 19th century and by the time of the printing of this tract around half of the population was Chinese. Christianity was outlawed in China until 1846 and so missionaries took advantage of the frequent trade made by Chinese merchants and smuggled their publications into China via Chinese junks. Gutzlaff was a German Protestant missionary, who had travelled along the coast of China, breaking the law by preaching Christianity as he went.
