(15 in lot) Condition Twin Handled dishes: 1) hairline crack to perimeter of foot. 2) 1cm hairline crack to underside from rim. 3) Multiple hairline cracks to underside from rim. 4) 5cm hairline crack to underside from rim and the full circumference of the base.Plates: 1) 2cm chip to rim. 2) 2.5cm hairline crack to base. 3) 4cm hairline crack to well of plate. 4) and 5) 10cm hairline crack to well of plateOtherwise light surface scratches from use.

French gilt metal clock garniture, the clock with two birds and floral swags to finial, brass drum movement striking a bell, with painted porcelain panels with cherubs and floral swags, oval panel with lady below finial detached and mount snapped but plaque present, the painted dial with Roman numerals, with a pair of three branch four light candelabra garniture, H47 x W34cm (clock), H44cm (garniture) Top panel to central clock is detached and the frame and hinge around broken. Plaque is present, with chips to top and bottom (pieces not present).One part of floral swag to finial of clock snapped off and missing. Finial loose - needs to be re-nailed. Internal part with remains of sweat band, no lining (signs of use and time). Big, rigid, hemispheric tassel covered with red cloth. height max circa 15 cm.
dating: about 1880 provenance: Kingdom of Italy, Light skull, rigid, non metallic, covered with seal's fur (small parts missing); front badge with gilded five-tip star, loaded with monogram 'U' of Umberto I, surmounted with a crown, the star on silver beams; gilded, metal comb, fretwork with flowers and ending in a Savoy eagle, crowned and carved in-the-round, loaded on the chest with Savoy shield; no chin-straps, a tricolor, fabric cockade on the left; visor and nape-guard hemmed in silver. Leather sweat band and light-blue, fabric cap inside with marking of 'GIAC.o CESATI E FIGLI MILANO'. Complete with a cap in white fabric and its original, wooden case, covered with linen with leather borders, lined. height 24 cm.
dating: Second quarter of the 20th Century provenance: Kingdom of Italy, Straight blade of lozenge section, engraved until the half with rinceaux, trophies and Savoy emblems. Gilded, brass hilt. Guard with eagle of militia on a relieved and pierced fasces, oak branches next to it and 'm'. Long cap shaped as eagle's head with back engraved with feathers. Grip lacquered in black with brass thread and wire binding. Leather scabbard with gilded brass mounts with two lugs. Cap adorned with a fasces in relief. Complete with a sword-knot in gilded thread. In a case lined in blue with metal plate with inscription 'AN DEN KOMMANDIERE DEN DER 97 LEICHTENDIVISION GENERAL Maximilian Fretter Pico STALINO 13/16-10-1941'. After serving in the First World War, Fretter-Pico (1892-1966) remained in service in the years between the two wars. Promoted on March 1, 1941 to General Major, he took command on April 19, 1941 of the 97 light infantry division. During the operations that culminated with the taking of Stalino, an important industrial city, on 16 October 1941, the force commanded by Fretter-Pico was able to cooperate, also together with the first gebirgsdivision, in close synergy with an Italian formation, the 63° CCNN legion of assault 'Tagliamento', in an atmosphere of profitable and comradely collaboration. The joint Italian-German mixed team cooperated closely until the so-called 'Christmas Battle' at the end of 1941. Probably the sword is a gift offered by the General Staff to Fretter-Pico during those months of hard victorious efforts. The fact remains that the General later had other Italian departments under his direct control. on December 27, 1941 the XXX Armee Korps was formed, with the name of 'Armee- Abteilungen FRETTER-PICO', formed by: 3 gebirgs division, third infantry division 'Ravenna', grouping CCNN XXIII March, 'Schuld brigade', 'Kampf gruppe Nagel', 304 infantry division 'Kampfgruppe Kreysing'. On 1st June 1942 he was promoted to General der Artillerie and confirmed commander general of the XXX Armee-Korps, group whose command remained until February 1943. In September 1944 he was in command of the Armee-Gruppe Fretter-Pico. He will be captured by the Americans and held in captivity until 1948. length 92,4 cm.

Complete with cockade and hackle in black horsehair. Morocco leather inside and silk cap. The single stripe is for lieutenants and NCOs. Scarce. height 26 cm.

Chinese Art.- [Wesdin (Johann Philipp)] Monumenti Indici del Museo Naniano..., engraved plate of Amita Buddha figure, lightly water-stained, modern paste-paper wrappers, Padua, 1799 § Langdon (William B.) A Descriptive Catalogue of the Chinese Collection...at St.George's Place, Hyde Park Corner, London, first English edition, wood-engraved frontispiece and 7 plates, some light spotting, slightly browned, original blind-stamped green cloth titled in gilt, a little rubbed and stained, spine faded, [Cordier 79], 8vo, 1842.⁂ The first is a scarce monograph on the Eastern antiquities in the collection of the brothers Bernardo and Jacopo Nani in Venice, mostly concerning the iconographically complex Chinese Amita Buddha figure carved in soapstone illustrated in the plate.The collection of "Ten Thousand Chinese Things" was formed by Nathan Dunn, an American tea-trader in China, with the aim of educating Westerners in the ways and arts of China. It was first exhibited in Philadelphia and then in London, to rave reviews and vast audiences, but when it was brought over here again to coincide with the Great Exhibition of 1851 it was not so well-received and most of it ended up being auctioned at Christie's.
Medals.- Menestrier (Claude François) Histoire du Roy Louis le Grand par les Medailles, Emblêmes, Devises, Jettons, Inscriptions, Armoiries, et autres Monumens Publics, second edition, engraved title and 61 plates or full-page illustrations including large folding plate of the Place des Victoires and another folding, occasional light spotting towards end but a good copy, with additional engraved portrait of Menestrier by Desroches of 1705 loosely inserted, contemporary sprinkled calf, spine gilt, a little rubbed, spine ends worn, [Landwehr, Romanic 519], folio, Paris [Amsterdam], I.B.Nolin [Mortier], 1691.⁂ Fine medallic history of the reign of Louis XIV, with the addition of five plates of satirical medals on religious persecution, relations with the Pope, Turks and Algeria, etc. This is a Dutch counterfeit edition following the first edition published in Paris in 1689.
Austro-Turkish War.- Höchste Welt- und Krieges-Häupter, welche den Fried-brüchigen Türckischen Hochmuth..., first edition, Gothic letter, half-title, title in red and black, 11 engraved plates by Jacob Andreas Fridrich only (of 12, lacking frontispiece), title creased and torn at foot touching ornamental rule and one letter (repaired), some light soiling or browning, a few tears to inner margin repaired, contemporary half pigskin over paste-paper boards, rubbed and soiled, a couple of wormholes to spine, folio, Augsburg & Dillingen, Johann Caspar Bencard, 1718.⁂ Descriptions of European leaders in the Austro-Turkish War of 1716-1718 including Pope Clement XI, Emperor Charles VI, Prince Eugene of Savoy and Prince Alexander of Wurttemberg. Most of the engraved plates feature portraits surrounded by allegorical figures, arms, and battle scenes.

This particular act grants the South Sea Company the right to take slaves from the island of Madagascar to Buenos Aires.

The Grand Duke invited the Viennese composer Christoph Willibald Gluck to set the text. He conducted both the present piece and Marco Coltellini's Ifigenia in Tauride. Provenance: Prince Piero Ginori Conti (1865-1939) (bookplate and gilt crowned cipher to spine); Giannalisa Feltrinelli (sold Christie's, South Kensington, 2nd June, 1998, lot 1312).
