Grimaldi (Joseph).- Anonymous (early 19th century) Mr. Grimaldi & Mr. Norman in the Epping Hunt from the popular pantomime The Red Dwarf, etching with hand-colouring, c. 247 x 344 mm (9 3/4 x 13 1/2 in), paper remains to top edge verso, [not in BM Satires], unframed, 1811; and 7 others similar, v.d., v.s.; together with Playbill for Robinson Crusoe, c.310 x 209mm., slightly trimmed at lower edge?, edges lightly creased and frayed, light spotting, once laid down on paper, remnants remaining along right edge and on verso, November 11th 1800 (9)⁂ Playbill featuring Joseph Grimaldi as Robinson Crusoe, "for the first time", performed at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Another playbill features Grimaldi in the role of Friday, with "a young Carib attached to him", while a further 5 playbills feature him in more comic roles such as, as Granny Rose in Little Red Riding Hood, and afterwards in his famous character of "The Clown". The two prints in the lot depict Grimaldi in his clown attire, the second print also showing a scene from the Red Dwarf, this time facing a creature described as "the Nonedescript".

Parts I & II, signed presentation inscription from the composer "Edward Elgar: Birmingham Festival Oct: 14th. 1903" to head of "Note" page, vocal and piano music scores, annotations in blue pencil and graphite, light browning to endpapers, original cloth-backed decorated boards, ink ownership inscription and stamp to upper cover, spine ends and corners bumped, light rubbing and surface soiling, 8vo, Novello and Company, 1903.⁂ Signed by Elgar at the first performance, which he also conducted. The annotations largely consist of performance notes, however there are a few alterations to the composition which possibly indicate that the score was used for rehearsals with the composer who proceeded to make a few last-minute changes.
