(D)NB: Norman Makinson was born in Wolstanton, Staffordshire, and attended the Junior Arts School in Burslem from the age of 11 years old. He progressed to the position of Apprentice Decorator at the Wedgwood Pottery factory in 1936 and he designed the Festival of Britain mug (1951).
