William BLACK (XX) Shells and Stars Ink and wash, signed and inscribed, 15 x 21cm. Together with a second piece by the same hand. (2)Each piece appears to have had a light wash added to the front and the reverse, which could be mistaken for discolouration. There are no tears or folds to the pages. To the reverse of each piece there is a strip of tape which hints at the way the works have previously been displayed. If the works were to be framed this would be unnoticeable.
After Alexis GRIMOU (c.1678-1733) The Flautist 18th century oil on canvas, 35x28cm and 43.5x36cm overall There is moderate to marked craquelure throughout with some circular impact cracking. To the naked eye, there is some evidence of consolidated historic loss and inpainting, most notably to the perimeter of the work, this is difficult to see under UV light due to the varnish. Some areas of this work show signs of historic skimming/cleaning. Please see the additional images.
