In April 1949, while patrolling the River Yangtze, HMS Amethyst of the 3rd Frigate Flotilla was fired upon by members of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and subsequently was trapped in China until the ship escaped to Shanghai during the night of 31 July 1949. This well written book tells the story of this famous incident. The book measures approx 14.5cm x 21.5cm, 274 pages, hard back, no dust jacket and shows just some light signs of age, spine a little faded, otherwise is in very good condition (see photographs)Good condition. A THEODORE DECK MAJOLICA MOON FLASK, late 19th century, with garlic neck and two scroll handles with fleur-de-lys terminals, painted in the cloisonne style with ochre roundels enclosing an exotic bird in flight with butterflies and flowering branches in shades of brown with gold lustre highlights, within turquoise borders and flower painted shoulders, impressed T.H. Deck, 12" high (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT)Condition Report: Sadly drilled to butterfly roundel near base to convert into lamp. One handle repaired with minor loss near terminal and crack higher up on scroll. I have scraped around the plaster (?) fixing in the metal light fitting and can see some blue decoration higher up the neck, but am unable to see if there is any damage to the rim. I have been unable to remove the fitting but suspect it may soak off.
