He received his B.A. in 1908 and his M.A. in 1909, both from Yale University, and his M.D. in 1912 from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After his graduation from medical school, Weed served two years as Arthur Tracy Cabot Fellow in charge of surgical research at Harvard University.In 1914, he returned to Johns Hopkins as instructor of anatomy in the school of medicine; in 1919, he was named head of the department. Weed served as dean of the school of medicine from 1923 until 1929, and as director of the medical school until 1946. In 1939, Weed was appointed chairman of the Division of Medical Sciences of the National Research Council. Gérard, numbered SB 818 2, 17cm long, 23.4g In 1968, Louis Gérard founded M Gérard with the help of Jacqueline de Ribes, La Comtesse de Ribes, the French aristocrat and fashion icon, in Paris, at number 8 Avenue Montaigne. Gérard had previously worked as a senior executive at Van Cleef & Arpels. By the end of the 1970s, M Gérard had become one of the largest exporters of French jewellery, with boutiques in the main society locales of Monte Carlo, Geneva, Cannes, Gstaad and London. Having sold the business to American investors in 1985, Louis Gérard opened a new boutique in Paris at 16 Avenue Montaigne in 1988, which closed in 1991. An French Art Nouveau early 20th century amethyst dress ring, circa 1900, the mixed cut amethyst with a trio of claws to each canted corner, the claws to tapered fan like panels with a scalloped gallery between, the shank numbered 700 with rubbed French poincons, finger size K, 9.1g grossCondition Report: There is wear and some thinning to the claws, particularly the middle claws, one claw has had the tip worn back, although the stone is still secure, the shank has wear from use, there are the faint rubbed remains of the makers mark and gold standard marks, there are also some further polished knocks to the shank towards the shoulders, Numbered 700 on the inside of the shank, sadly no signature. A pair of French 1940s Retro ruby and diamond flower ear clips, the polished gold coloured flower heads each centred with an old cut diamond within a surround of circular cut rubies, approximately 1.40 carats total, stamped with French poincons, with clip and screw fittings, 3.3cm long, 16.9g grossCondition Report: Some light wear commensurate with age and use. The diamonds colour estimated H, clarity VS, couple of chips to girdles. The rubies are fairly well matched in colour, some are a pinker tone.
