Outstanding oil on linen painting by Abstract Modernist Juan Iribarren. His composition is made with thinned-out oils applied to form sky blue shades, light yellow-greens and sunshine yellow planes. Loose geometric shaped brushstrokes of earth tones and cerulean intersect and drip resulting in translucent organic forms. Based in New York City, Iribarren has captured the reflections, lights and highlights that bask the city on sunny days resulting in a vibrant yet serene composition. (2)Condition Report: The larger : Pink and dark grey borders are clean. The text panel has browned , possibly a large water stain. It shows a fold mark in its centre. A crease or fold mark runs on its whole height to the right side. Dark brown stain to lower right corner.The smaller : Blue and pink borders are clean. Very light pitting and staining to the upper right corner. Clean. Strong ink.The works have not been taken out of their frame to prepare this condition report.

A large Japanese Rinpa school painted floral four-panel screen19th centuryPainted with ink and colour on paper depicting chrysanthemum and daisies in various colours, mounted with silk brocade on red lacquer edges, 87 x 48cm each panel. Condition Report: Generally good decorative order, but with expected wear consistent with age and type, including light foxing, scattered small losses to the paper to the lower portion and some fine tearing, all well masked by the speckles in the paper. Some dark discolouration along the folds of the screen. Expected marks and scuffs. Please refer to additional images for further information.

To Be Sold With No ReserveA Benares silver enamelled model of a caparisoned elephant, India, late 19th/early 20th century, on oval flat base, a ruler seating in a howdah under an umbrella decorated as a lotus flower, the caparison inset with inset with ruby glass beads, mahout's ankus lacking, plain gilt underside,7.8cm. high Condition Report: This figure may have previously stood on a rectangular base. It is now lacking. Some enamel has lift off leaving plain silver apparent. Those areas mostly noticeable on the elephant's trunk, ears, the mahout's arm. This lot would benefit form very light cleaning.
To Be Sold With No ReserveAn unusual printed copy of an edict of Muzaffar al-Din Shah (reg. 1896-1907),giving permission for the sale of gramophones to an American Limited Society (Societe Anonyme Fournisseur) after their functions had been demonstrated to the Shah, Qajar Persia, dated dhu'l-qa'dah 1323AH/December 1905-January 1906AD, 4ll. of printed nasta'liq script on paper, within gold cloudbands, the lines interspersed with bands of undulating floral motifs, a reproduction of the seal of the Shah dated AH 1314/AD 1896-97 and his signature, both within floral cartouches, creased, framed and glazed52 x 32.5cm. Provenance: Bonhams, Islamic and Indian Art, 7 October 2010, Lot 31In 1906 Maxime Pick a salesman for gramophones and typewriters received permission from Muzzafer Al-Din Shah to distribute the gramophone. Following the lead of Edison agents who rushed to prominent statesman and artists to demonstrate the superior sound of the new recording machine by recording and then mass distributing their voices, Pick hurried a letter to the court of Muzzafer Al-Din Shah requesting that the Shah issue an order (firman) to the community of artists and singers to record them thus providing entertainment for the Shah and that the firman also grant The Gramophone Company permission to distribute and sell the new machine in Iran. The firman was not easily granted, Pick himself had to go to the court and record the Shah to prove the potential of the new machine. Five records were made in the course of this visit, two of them bear the seal and signature of the Shah and are dated January 16th 1906. A third one which according to Pick records the Shah extolling the virtues of the gramophone ironically lacks his signature.Condition Report: Paper lightly browned overall. Corners present, however, scuffed. Edges, scuffed. Overall lightly creased with pronounced fold marks. Light losses to edges, especially visible to the central fold mark, perhaps a combination of tears and worm hole. Marginal areas stained, especially to the upper right quarter and lower left marginal area. Damp spot to lower right corner area. Weak seal impression. Text clean and crisp. The glaze broken.
