A good French M 1822 light cavalry trooper’s sword, curved, fullered blade 36”, marked “Mre d’Armes de Chatt. Janvier 1878 = Cavrie Lre Mle 1822” on backstrap, narrow back fuller to centre section, brass hilt, the guard with reinforced edges, 2 sidebars, slightly forward sloping cap shaped pommel, ribbed leather grip (most wire removed) in its darkened steel scabbard with single ring, matching nos “3225” to hilt and scabbard. Near VGC, with much original finish to blade and scabbard.

A Geo V 1897 pattern infantry officer’s sword, straight fullered blade 32½” by Wilkinson, no 64235 (for 1934) on backstrap, etched on both sides with crowned R Arms, GVR cypher and wreath within tightly scrolled foliate panels, regulation plated pierced hilt incorporating crowned GVR monogram, plain pommel, chequered backstrap, wirebound fishskin grip, with knot (AF) in its leather covered FS scabbard. GC, retaining much original plating to hilt (some wear and light pitting to blade). The sword of Lt. Col R.G. Hewitt, DSO, The E. Yorks Regt, served throughout WWII with the regt, including landing at Anzio, c/o Malaya 1952-55.
