A set of four brass twin branch light fittings, each with oval Jasperware plaque. Height 48 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The metalwork on all appears to be in good order. All are missing an outer cover to the bulb fittings. One Wedgwood panel has numerous very fine horizontal cracks across the blue ground and further horizontal and vertical cracks on the sprigged figure which are not instantly visible to the naked eye. Another panel has very, very fine cracks to the sprigged figure again not noticeable to the naked eye but visible through a jeweller,s loupe. Ditto another plaque. I have removed one plaque which has chips to the top and left hand sides (on a clock face: 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock) which appears to allow it to slip into its aperture, however, the other panels do not have these chips. The body of the sprigging has numerous very fine hairline cracks but again the majority viewable under a jeweller's loop only. All plaques are impressed "Wedgwood, Made in England". Four pull switches have their acorn finials intact, whilst the other four do not. One pull switch would need to be lengthened in order to be operable. Given the faults mentioned, these are still attractive items and even on the plaque with the chips you cannot see the chips once it is placed within its housing.
An 18th century oak box settle, with panelled back, hinged seat and raised on stile feet. Width 107 cm. CONDITION REPORT: This box settle has plenty of character. Given its naive nature it is difficult to determine exactly what and when parts may or may not have been replaced. When looking at the item the left arm has been replaced however this is a well patinated piece of wood and is in keeping with the remainder of the piece. There is a large split to the side of the rear right hand leg. A further aged bit to the rear right hand side leg. The back panel has a light patch which may have been caused by numerous backs resting upon it, however the rest of the panel is rather dark and may have been affected by smoke damage. Basically it is all intact with only very minor knocks, any splits are indicative of its age. The emailed images would give you a better idea. The back panel of the seat has signs of old woodworm, and similar to the rear of the left leg/support.
A Georgian mahogany settee, upholstered in pink, foliate, scroll and patterned material, with exposed moulded mahogany arms, raised on turned legs, width 180 cm height to top of back 98 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The settee is structurally sound with no loose joints. The upholstery whilst a light pink colour is actually in extremely good condition with no significant rubbing or staining. The only minor issue is that when viewed from the rear there are two small marks to the fabric probably caused by rubbing during transport. They are both approximately 3 cm in length and between .5 and 1 cm in height. We are not sure if these will easily remove or not. The rear legs are in good condition with no repairs or breaks. The exposed showframe and all of the front legs are in similarly good condition. There are some minor scuffs and marks to the bottoms of the feet as one would expect. Each leg has an inlaid roundel to three sides. The right hand leg has the right hand roundel partially missing and there are some further small losses to the inlay on the other roundels to all feet.
A Blackamoor figure, 20th century, holding aloft a gilt metal five branch light fitting, a tray in his left hand, standing on the prow of a boat and all on a festooned and faux marble column. Height 207 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The stand is in generally good order. The metal lamp fitting to the top of the torch is clearly a later replacement and has been very badly attached. The stand itself is in very good condition with no issues other than minor marks to the paintwork and the odd scuff. The stand is likely to be around 40 or so years old.
A Thai cast bronze head of Buddha, 19th/20th century, wearing a floral headdress, mounted upon a square wood plinth, overall height 36 cm, the bust 25.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There are traces of verdigris throughout. There is a small pinhead size dimple below the left eye. There are two small pinhead size holes to the rear of the head approx 5 cm apart from each other. There is no evidence of any deep or light surface scratches. Please look closely at the web images which may satisfy any doubts.
A Japanese Kazaridana, Meiji period, each door and panel finely lacquered with lotus flowers in high and low relief, cranes, a preening hawk, a vase of flowers, ducks and geese, the grain of the panel used to great decorative effect, one handle formed as a fish, the other as a deity in a boat and with pierced fretwork decorative galleries, all on a simulated bamboo stand. Width 115 cm, height 135.5 cm, depth 31 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This item is generally in good structural condition, albeit a little dusty with some wear and tear commensurate with age. The top surface has various surface scratches and the top skin of lacquer is worn and erased. There is a 13 cm scratch to the top of the right hand side. The cabinet has numerous white paint spots throughout. The front edge of the top is worn away down to the natural wood. Hopefully these will be visible from our images. The right hand panel with preening bird has two splits to the woven effect mount. One directly at the bottom, approximately 5 cm long (if on a clock face at 6 o'clock) and the other to its right, approximately 11 cm long. The majority of the outer edges of the shelves and cabinet sections are worn down to the natural wood. Just below the two cupboard doors to the top on the left hand side, there is a small section of fretwork panel missing, the aperture for this bracket housing is 19 cm long and 7 cm high. I would guess that it is very similar to the shaped bracket below the upper right hand door decorated with birds and lily pads. The pair of doors on the bottom right hand corner appear to be in good order throughout, however, there is shrinkage to the left hand panel so that it does not sit perfectly flush within its frame. Also on the same door the upper left hand corner join is open. Each cabinet and drawer section shows signs of wear where the doors and drawers have been opened. Both sides have light surface scratches, however, on the left hand side there is a 13 cm diagonal crack in the top left hand corner. The pair of doors to the bottom left corner, the top of this section has a full length very fine split. Overall it does need some titivation, but you will end up with a fabulous piece of furniture.
Three Japanese Nabeshima dishes, 19th century, one with two hares jumping across spuming waves (possibly in relation to the white rabbit of Inaba) decorated in under glazed blue and white and with two Kintsugi restorations to the rim, another with a Sika deer looking skywards with gilt blossoming sprigs, blue scrolling clouds all before a gilt capped Fuji, the third in blue and white decorated with the three friends of winter with iron red sprigging and berries, cache symbols to the underside all dishes raised upon circular feet with blue and white dentil decoration and with either cache or foliate scroll undersides, 14.5 cm and 16.5 cm and 15 cm respectively. CONDITION REPORT: The Sika deer plate is in good order throughout with only very light rubbing to the gilding on the rim but nothing that is detrimental. There are no signs of cracks, chips or any restoration. The dish decorated with two hares has Kintsugi restorations. One has a restored chip and crack evident on the underside of the bowl, the crack is approximately 3.5 cm long. The other Kintsugi restoration appears to be just a chip restoration from which there are no cracks issuing. The three friends dish appears to be in good order throughout with no obvious signs of cracks, chips or restoration.
