EA). - Erste deutsche Ausgabe des hochgelobten amerikanischen Romanes. - Die amerikanische Originalausgabe "Light in August" erschien 1932 bei Harrison Smith und Robert Haas in New York. Es ist der erste Roman Faulkners, der auf Deutsch editiert wurde. Ernst Rowohlt verlegte ihn noch rechtzeitig im Nazi-Deutschland, bis er schließlich 1938 durch den Ausschluss aus der Reichsschrifttumskammer mit Berufsverbot belegt worden war. Der Umschlag-Künstler Heinz Kiwitz, (geb. 1910 in Duisburg, ab 1938 vermisst in Spanien) war Karl-Rössing-Schüler und Mitglied der KPD. Nach einem Überfall durch die SA, die sein Berliner Atelier verwüstete, ging er 1933 zurück nach Duisburg, wurde aber im August desselben Jahres verhaftet und ins KZ gebracht. Nach seiner Entlassung 1936 war er wieder in Duisburg, Düsseldorf und Berlin tätig. Besonders fruchtbar wurde für Kiwitz die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Verleger Ernst Rowohlt. Höhepunkte seiner Arbeiten waren die Gestaltung diverser Faulkner-Ausgaben. 1937 verhalf ihm Rowohlt zur Flucht. Kiwitz ging nach Dänemark, wo er mit Brecht zusammentraf, anschließend nach Paris. Dort beteiligte er sich an der Ausstellung "Fünf Jahre Hitlerdiktatur", die emigrierte deutsche Künstler veranstalteten. 1938 blieb er als Angehöriger der Interbrigaden in Spanien verschollen. (s.
