AN UNUSUAL 3RD QUARTER 17TH CENTURY LANTERN CLOCK JOHN EBSWORTH, LONDINI FECIT the posted frame surmounted by an engraved dolphin fretwork crestings and strapped bell above a Roman chapter ring with quarter-hour markings enclosing a signed tulip engraved centre and cut steel hands fronting a 30-hour weight driven movement with verge escapement striking the hours on a bell with pull down striking arm to the side36cm highThe dial is original to the movement. The side doors are missing. The alarm mechanism is missing. The verge has been replaced; probably reconverted back from anchor. Bell straps are original. Light surface rust to the steelwork. The pendulum is attached to the movement as it is a verge. No weight. The top finial has lost its tip.

The 12" painted dial with Roman numerals, fronting an eight-day fusee timepiece movement with anchor escapement.77cm high 43cm wide The case is in good condition with no damage or losses, the dial has minor chips to the paint around the edge, the white ground also has light crazing but is stable, the movement is dirty and will require a service, it does wind and tick, the pendulum is original but the steel suspension has snapped off and missing.
