CASSIUS CLAY Scarce hardback book with dustcover, "1960 United States Olympic Book", signed by Cassius Clay on page 100 across his picture with Bing Crosby. Complete with photograph showing Clay signing the picture which was signed after he had become Muhammad Ali. However he had won the Light Heavyweight Olympic Gold medal as Cassius Clay and for that reason he signed the photo as Cassius Clay. The book itself is 408 pages in size and covers the 1960 Winter and Summer Olympic Games from the American perspective together with the Pan-American Games. Many photographs, articles and statistical details and published by the United States Olympic Committee. Some minor tears to the cover at the edges but the book itself is in good condition. Monte Cazazza is, of course, a founding father of Industrial and Apocalypse culture, and a frequent collaborator with Survival Research Laboratories and Genesis P.-Orridge.

Bay Area Research Collective, Berkeley, 8/20/75. Mid-horizontal fold, light wear to edges. The NWLF portion of the broadside was issued by the ""Jonathan Jackson/ Sam Melville Unit"" which claims credit for the bombing of the Emeryville Police Station saying that it ""is a warning to the rabid dogs who murder our children in cold blood"". The other side features a red-toned photograph of marching policemen and describes a riot and pitched battle between SWAT / Police and `residents` of the ""Casa Blanca barrio in Riverside"", Southern California. Lot also includes a copy of issue no. 3 of ""Dragon"", printed by BARC in October 1975, texts and illustrations in purple and black on white, blue and yellow stock. Stapled into the original illustrated white paper wrappers and housing two foolscap NWLF Communiques folded and loosely inserted. Slightly dustry jacket and browned edges, the communiques creased, a bit torn and with brown stains. Plus a four page ""Dragon Supplement"" entitled ""NWLF Attack Strategy 11-3-75"", 8vo, blue paper folded once, three mimeographed illustartions. The supplement is an ""open letter to all units"" of the NWLF and claims to speak for ""poor people"" who ""are outraged at the `Sinai peace accord"". The pamphlet goes on to discuss Kissinger, oil-based foreign policy and calls for smashing of the ""deranged dog-eat-dog order that butchers and creates nightmare lives four countless poor people"". The Bay Area Research Collective were Symbionese Liberation Army sympathizers. Very rare urban guerrilla ephemera.

Lot comprises a typed letter dated March 18, 1937 and signed ""N. Chamberlain"" at foot, in which the British Prime Minister thanks his correspondent for ""the sympathy of the Officers and members of the Wynn Street Women`s Branch on the death of my brother""; a handwritten letter from Anne Chamberlain, dated ""Sept 8"" (no year), in which the writer expresses her congratulations on the wedding of Mrs Wibraham`s daughter; a typed letter from Ann Chamberlain dated March 3, 1938 and signed in ink at foot. Mrs Chamberlain wants to tell Mrs Wilbraham ""how much the Prime Minister and I appreciated all that you did in securing the Whist Drive prizes"". All letters feature mailing folds, light browning to edges and minor foxing. A few ink stains to rear of 1938 letter. Plus an envelope addressed to Clement Attlee from E. R. Ballesteto from Argentina (letter missing). Postmarked ""21 Feb. 49"". Attlee was English Prime Minister from 1945 to 1951.

Lot also included a printed menu of the lunch offered to Churchill on November 17, 1945 on occasion of his appointment as honorary citizen of Antwerp. Signed by Mary Churchill on front page. Plus printed invitations to the ceremony and the lunch addressed to Mejuffer Oldenburg. Provenance: Descendants of Mme Oldenburg, whose father was the president of the Diamond Office during Churchill s visit to Antwerp. Being at that time secretary to her father, Mme Oldenburg was invited to attend the lunch in order to offer a diamond to Mary Churchill on behalf of the city council.

Ramsay MacDonald (1866-1937) was a Scottish politician and the first ever Labour Prime Minister in the United Kingdom from January to November 1924. He formed a second Labour government form 1929 to 1935 and during this second mandate he was forced to face the devastating effects of the Great Depression. The addressee is possibly the Liberal politician Joseph King, who later joined the Labour Party.

Since it was illegal to publish photos of Mandela, his portrait was based on physical descriptions provided by those who visited the Anti-Aparthied movement leader in jail. The colours of the band and the lettering are those of the South African flag. The poster was printed by BB printers in Johannesburg at great risk of prosecution.

Pierrepoint, 24/3/51"" in black ink on lower right corner. Three horizontal mailing folds, light creasing. In very good condition. Mounted, framed and glazed, overall size 47 x 34cm. Mounted on the rear is the original envelope in which the document was sent, postmarked ""Warwick & Leamington Spa -3-, 7pm, 22 March, 1951"" and bearing Pierrepoint`s private address in Manchester. The document lists the rules that Pierrepoint was expected to follow not only in the exercise of his profession but also in his moral conduct. Provenance: Albert Pierrepoint`s archive. Albert Pierrepoint (1905-1992) was the longest serving hangman in Britain. He followed the footsteps of his father and uncle, both executioners. Pierrepoint hanged more than 400 people throughout his career, including Nazi war criminals. After his retirement in 1956, he was acknowledged as the most efficient executioner in English history. Smuts writes: "" I was indeed very pleased to see that the diffcult with Barrel has been straightened out. All that now remains is to see that he wins"". A 25.7 x 18cm engraved portrait of Smuts in military uniform by Louis Ollier, signed below the image in ble ink ""J.C. Smuts"" and accompanied by a typed thank you letter on official letterhead, addressed to Ollier on 27th May 1944 from Smuts`s private secretary. Light yellowing but overall in very good condition. A 17.7 x 22.7cm one page letter with official letterhead, dated ""Cape Town 15.1.47"", written in blue ink on front and last page leaf and signed ""J.C. Smuts"" at foot. Addressed to ""My dear Bottomley"", possibly Arthur G. Bottomley, Under-Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs. Smuts thanks him ""most warmly"" for a kind note and hopes Bottomley can be present during the King`s visit to South Africa. The royal visit actually took place in June 1947. Mailing folds with light browning. Smuts was South African prime minister from 1919 to 1924 and from 1939 to 1948.

Two mailing folds with some browning and light wear to corners. Accompanied by the original black bordered envelope, postmarked ""London, S.W., Z. MY 8, 79"". Framed and glazed, overall size 27 x 35.8cm. Stanley Clarke was a close friend of the Prince of Wales. Even though he did not have particular military merits, he was appointed Commander of the Light Camel regiment during the Sudan war in order to please the future king.

The picture was taken in the Blue Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace after a visit of the Queen and the Duke to India. Accompanied by two typed letters and a handwritten note stating that the signed picture was a thank you gift to Major General W. H. A. Bishop in Calcutta for the ""faultless arrangements"" he had made ""for the large reception given for them at the Turf Club"" on the 18th of Febraury 1961. Anthony Buckley, one of the major English portraitists, was the royal photographer throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
