An extensive Second World War casualty medal and document group, that of 164399 Lieutenant James Edwin Garman, 89th (11th Battalion The Buffs) Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery, killed in action 10th September 1944, aged 25, buried at St Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, the group includes campaign medals and insignia, a photograph album, official and personal documents including condolence letters from fellow officers. [Lieutenant Garman was killed by an enemy shell when attempting to help members of his unit following an artillery assault near Le Havre.]

[Awarded the Victoria Cross for actions during the Persian War in The Battle of Khooshab, 8 February 1857. He rescued Lieutenant Moore who was crushed by his horse in battle, he fought his way to his fallen comrade and carried him to safety.]

He was injured by a musket ball through the leg, had two horses killed from under him and was shot through his helmet.]
Planchon, Paris, an impressive French late 19th century gilt brass and white marble clock garniture, the architectural case with a pair of love birds on a pedestal, behind a seated lady with a winged cherub, flanked by urns, the clock flanked by floral trusses, floral vase surmount, the signed and numbered 7034 eight day movement striking on a bell, the pendulum with a pair of love birds, numbered 7034, 53cm, flanked by a matching pair of two light candelabra with seated cherub amongst roses, 36cm, pendulum, key.Mathieu Planchon was apprenticed to his father, served several years with other clockmakers including Robert-Houdin and then went into business for himself eventually opening his shop at the Palais Royal in 1890.In overall very good condition, showing little to no wear, only very slight rubbing to the gilt surfaces primarily the cherubs.No visual damage or repair.Please note the front floral vase surmount to the right side does not match that on the left (shorter) unsure it should be or not?The clock winds, sets and is ticking
Four Winston Leathers (Canadian, 1932-2004), to include Sun up ....early morning the lark of the meadow sings, oil on board, signed, label verso, 23 x 14, Flowers and things that are right, oil on board, signed, label verso, 39 x 29cm, together, Summer Light - Encounters 98, mixed graphic media, Sumii ink, varnishes, gold and bronze powder, on board, unsigned, 25 x 38cm.Winston Leathers: 1932-2004 born in Miami, Manitoba Studied at theUniversity of Manitoba School of Art, where he became a professor of Art and taught for 24 years.Leading artist in the Western American Modernist movement of the 1950s-60s.Leathers style of art reflected his fascination with Eastern spirituality(Zen Buddhism), admiration for the Josef Alber’s School through experimenting with new techniques.Apart from his intensive teaching career, he exhibited in more than 30 solo shows and 140 group exhibitions throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Japan and the Caribbean.Clement Greenberg in his 1963 review of Modernist art in Western Canada, noted that Leathers was the only Winnipeg painter whose work “ looked aggressively up- to-date”.
