Attributed to John Anthony PARK (1878-1962)Pudding Bag LaneOil on Panel (double-sided)c1921-193635 x 30cmThis attractive view of Pudding Bag Lane offers an alternative to a number of versions painted by John Anthony Park in his 2nd St Ives period (1921-1933). The site was condemned as slums in the 1930s and demolished in 1936 to build a car park for the Sloop Inn, just 3 years after Park had left for London.Returning to St Ives in 1940, he found the site greatly altered and took a new studio overlooking Porthmeor Beach, where he remained until 1957; his 3rd and final period in Cornwall. The reverse of the panel bears a study of ships in St. Ives harbour. This needs a light surface clean and has a single wormhole. Otherwise the condition is good
