A ladies Tudor Oyster Princess date stainless steel wrist watch, rotor self winding, the signed 17mm. champagne dial with baton numerals, 22mm. case, on original stainless steel 370B bracelet, in original box.* Condition: Working order. Some light scratching to bracelet and case. Not unsightly. Some old scratching to glass. Some minor corrosion to plated baton numerals. Hands are black painted - probably not original paint. A few tiny nicks and scratches to dial. Some moisture (or possibly oil) droplets visible on dial. Patch of pitting to surface of dial outside the 5 o'clock baton. Box good.
A Chinese Canton enamel Ruyi sceptre, 19th century, undulating handle with enamel decoration of many auspicious symbols over a yellow ground, light blue edges with trailing scroll design, lobe head bears five bat decoration with overlying character mark, 9½in. (24.2cm.) long.* Condition: Some wear to enamel decoration to underside of handle, and a few minor rubs elsewhere. Wear to blue scrolled decoration to centre of sides from handling. Small chip to enamel and ding to metal border to underside of the head. A few small discoloured spots to enamel at joint with metal border due to ingress of metal tarnish.
A Chinese transitional porcelain blue and white garlic neck vase from the Hatcher Cargo, mid-17th century, the elongated neck with slightly flared rim over a slightly compressed globular body, decorated with birds and insects in flight amidst floral sprays and berries, red Christies sale label to base, 14in. (35.5cm.) high.* Provenance: The Hatcher Collection, Christies Amsterdam, 12-13th June 1984.** Condition: Matt finish to glaze throughout - small clear patch just above foot, showing that original glaze finish is preserved beneath. A few light stains and small encrustation spots to lower body. Firing chip from the making to inside of footrim.
A Russian silver gilt and cloisonné enamel beaker (charka), by Pavel Ovchinnikov, Russia 1908-1916, 84 standard, the cylindrical beaker decorated with stylised flowers in navette reserves in blue, green, turquoise, lilac, pale green, white and red on a gilt ground, engraved monogram to base, 'AM', 2¾in. (7cm.) high, weight 122g.* Condition: Small line dent to base. Marks clear. Expected light scratching to base and interior from use. Wear to gilt to edge of base. No losses from enamel. Under strong magnification it can be seen that there are a very few pin-prick marks to the blue background where minute bubbles have burst in the firing. These are hardly noticeable to the naked eye.
A pair of Elizabeth II silver three light table candelabrum, J. B. Chatterley & Sons Ltd., Birmingham 1976, of George I form, the separate candelabra tops with three double scroll arms and turned nozzles over circular dished drip pans, on conforming candlesticks with waisted and chamfered square stems over dished mounts, to stepped square base with incuse corners, 9¾in. (25cm.) high, weight 67 tr.oz.; together with an Elizabeth II silver candle snuffer, same maker, Birmingham 1986. (3)
A Chinese book and case, the book in light wood soft covers joined by silk spine, with relief carved central rectangular panel with inset of floral sprig, the outer area with trailing foliate design, carved tied scrolls to upper and lower, 3¾ x 2¾in. (9.6 x 7cm.), contained within a hardwood box, the sliding cover with carved central panel of an unfurled scroll with bamboo design, four character marks within circular reserves to each of the corners, on floral and foliate ground, stepped edges, the body of box having foliate carving to front and reverse with centralised diamond motif, sides conforming with circular motif with petal outer edge, 4¾ x 3¾in. (12.1 x 9.5cm.).
A Castellani style 22ct gold, tourmaline and enamel pendant brooch, hallmarked 'KMC 22CT', the oval brooch with central pink tourmaline carved as an Egyptian mask, within multiple beaded, ropework and black enamel borders, the outer scroll border in white enamel, set at the cardinals with four baguette cut pink tourmalines, 43 x 39mm.* Condition: Minute chip to left hand emerald cut stone. Tiny natural flaw to back of carved stone near centre. No damage to enamel work. When held to the light, one can see a vertical line in the carved stone, which almost has the appearance of a drilled hole from top to bottom. See photo.
A Russian enamelled silver gilt vodka tot, by Vasily Agafonov, Moscow 1895-1908, the silver gilt beaker of simple tapering form, decorated with polychrome scroll and foliate designs, 1¾in. (4.75cm.) high, 1.45tr.oz.* Condition: Expected light scratching to base and interior from use. No damage to silver or losses from enamel. Good condition. Marks clear.
An unusual Chinese shallow cylindrical bronze vessel, 18th century or earlier, the everted rim signed with four character mark and further calligraphy, the straight sides with three simple pierced handles, the base turned with double concentric lines and disc to centre, 5in. (12.75cm.) diameter. * Provenance: 'The Beasley Collection' (Henry Geoffrey Beasley, 1882-1939). By family descent to the grand daughters.* Condition: Condition good overall. Has been polished at some stage many years ago, but retains a good patina. Minor dings and marks to surface in places from use. Interior well has a few patches of light corrosion to surface - see photos. No splits or repairs.
A pair of 19th century patinated bronze five-light candelabra after a model by Francois Remond The central lotus and acanthus decorated column terminating in a circular candle sconce, issuing five scrolling arms with leopard monopodia and circular candle sconces, supported on triform bases of three satyresses with intertwined arms, on moulded triform bases, 52cm high. (2)
A 17-bore flintlock New Land Pattern service pistol to the 19th Light Dragoons, 9inch barrel, stepped and bolted lock engraved with a crown over GR and TOWER across the tail, full stocked, with various Ordnance stamps, regulation brass mounts, the trigger guard marked XIX LD D I, swivel ramrod. Of note, regarding the 19th Light Dragoons, they were led by Major General Arthur Wellesley (The Duke of Wellington) at the battle of Assaye and despite being out numbered were successful in earning the Battle Honour of the same name. The 19th Light Dragoons served in North America during the war of 1812 and then Canada participating in: The Capture of Fort George, Sacking of Black Rock and Buffalo, The Battles of Chippawa, Lundy's Lane, Fort Erie, Malcom's Mills and Plattsburgh. At the end of 1816 they became the 16th Lancers.
A .50 calibre Second Model Maynard percussion Cavalry Carbine, 20inch sighted barrel fitted with rear leaf sights, the right side of the frame stamped MANUFACTURED BY MASS. ARMS CO. CHICOPEE FALLS, the left side of the frame stamped EDWARD MAYNARD PATENTEE MAY27 1851 DEC 6 1859 and mounted with a saddle bar and ring, walnut stock bearing Government Inspector marks to the left side, serial no. 14873. Some light pitting to left side of frame and barrel.
A 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry officer's sabre, 83.5cm sharply curved blade decorated with scrolling foliage, stands of arms, a cavalryman, horse's head, crowned GR cypher and the Royal Arms, retaining good traces of original blued and gilt finish, regulation steel stirrup hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard.
An 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer's sword to the 16th Lancers, 89.5cm blade by MARSHALL & CO. ST JAMES'S LONDON, etched with regimental battle honours and motifs, further etched with the owner's family crest and initials RJB and sharpened for use, regulation, three-bar steel hilt, fishskin grip, wire binding lacking, contained in its field service scabbard, split to side.
An highly unusual 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer's sword, 88cm 17th Century family blade incised with the motto NO AGO MAL A QUIER NO ALCANCO in one fuller and TEMA IL MADO ALMEO VALOR SOLINGEN in the other, regulation three-bar steel hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard, the scabbard throat marked WILKINSON PALL MALL.
An 1821 Pattern Light Cavalry officer's sword with 90.5cm blade by Hawkes & Co. serial no. 1543, etched with scrolling foliage and crowned VR cypher's, regulation three-bar hilt, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its steel scabbard, together with a Rifle Regiment NCO's sword, and a brass hilted court sword the latter two lacking scabbards. A half size dirk to the 71st Highland Light Infantry, 16cm flattened diamond section blade, characteristic carved wooden hilt decorated with basket weave and set with studs, white metal mounted pommel set with a stone, contained in its white metal mounted scabbard, the mounts decorated with sprays of thistles. Blade grey and leather worn and parting, together with a reconfigured earlier dirk with 20cm blade, worn carved basket weave wooden hilt with brass mounted pommel set with white metal studs, contained in a tooled leather scabbard with clan crest and later chape. The crest bearing the motto Sperandum Est is that of the Wallace Clan. (2)
