Large format light aqua coloured paper, a few issues [vg], balance [fn+/vfn+] This lot and the following three lots run of Amalgamated Press 'Penny' titles from the 1930s are noted for their high grades. The Dandy Comic No 1 (1937) with free gift Express Whistler and original four page ad for Nos 1 and 2 from the Hotspur. Korky, Desperate Dan and Keyhole Kate start their mirthful adventures. Bright fresh cover colours with cream/light tan supple pages. There is a two inch blind tear passing through the words "Express" and "Free" at the bottom of the front cover. The tear does not extend to the comic's edge and may have been originally caused by the free gift inclusion. There are less than ten first issues known to exist and this copy is the highest grade ever offered at auction [fn+]. The tinplate Express Whistler is the only known example.
The Dandy Comic No 2 with free gift Jumping Frog and original four page ad for Nos 1 and 2. Bright fresh cover colours with cream/light tan supple pages. There is a three inch tear at the centre of the cover by the spine with a half thumbnail size loss between panels one and four. This may have originally been caused by the free gift inclusion. Only a handful of copies known to exist. The tinplate Jumping Frog is in full working order and one of two known examples [fn-]

The action, stock and fore-end of a 20-bore game scene engraved sidelock ejector gun, no. 17846, cross bolt extension, the frame, locks and left handed top-lever engraved with exquisite bold foliate scrollwork, the left lock with scenes of pheasant in woodland landscape, the right lock with wading snipe, the action base with flighting pheasant, top-lever with a grouse and the trigger guard with a gundog, retaining much original hardening colour overall, lined cocking indicators, 14-inch figured stock cast on for the left shoulder, nitro proof, bores marked, rejointing recomended, some areas of light surface pitting overall, 5lb. 14oz. The barrels may be made available for re-proof or sleeving. Please refer to the department for details.The game scene engraving is of exceptional quality for this period and displays all of the hallmarks of the work of Harry Kell
