18th century Worcester porcelain bowl decorated in "Precipice" pattern in underglaze blue with lattice border to interior rim, 23cm diam., underglaze blue crescent mark c.1770. Condition report:Underglaze firing crack to footrim as image. Some light scratches and wear to interior with a couple of the scratches slightly discoloured although they do not appear to have formed cracks, only visible to interior. This the first of 25 lots of works, with an artist`s family provenance, by this distinguished modernist Irish/Jewish artist (1907-1987). She studied in Dublin, Paris & at the Bauhaus. Samuel Beckett, James Joyce & others were her friends, & the latter asked her to provide illustrations for an edition of Finnegan`s Wake. Steyn had a one-woman exhibition at the Leicester Galleries in 1951, and three years later a joint show was held there with Ivon Hitchens. An early 20th century small Silver quaich and a silver pill pot, the quaich hallmarked London 1912 by Elkington & Co, 8cm wide, combined weight 56g in weight Condition Report: 8cm wide (at handles), approximate diameter 5.5cm. Dent to the base of the dish and the back of the box. Both have areas of tarnishing and light scratches which should polish out.
