A fine French gilt bronze and cut glass hung twenty four light chandelier in Louis XV style, later 19th century, the scrolled arms and cage body cast with swirling rocaille and foliage overall, hung with faceted drops and star pendants overall, approximately 114cm high, 114cm diameterProvenance: Property from a Private CollectionPlease note: This lot will not be on view at Donnington Priory but can be viewed, by prior appointment, at our off-site storage premises which are approximately 10 minutes drive from the saleroom. Condition Report: The chandelier bears the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.The gilding has a coppery tinge to it, and may have been refreshed. There is some rubbing and irregularity to the surface too, and it would benefit from a gentle clean.There is a thin firing crack to the base of one of the arms, and the scrolls suspending pendants issuing from the stem are a bit bent. There is some radial movement between some of the arms and the body, though all appear securely attached.Inside the body, the wires are held in place underneath a later wooden circular plaque. The chandelier has been later wired externally, please have this tested by a certified electrician prior to use. A handful of pendants have chips and cracks, others may be missing or replaced. Other mounts to the circlet also have some radial movement. The glass plate inside the corona is cracked. Other metal elements are also bent particularly the stems suspending the swags, the stars to the ball knop, and to a small extent the circlet itself. One of the swans has drilled holes to the neck. Glass drops may be missing or replaced but the current arrangement is pleasing and symmetrical.The chandelier is crated and has not been inspected fully on all sides, as it is not entirely accessible. Condition Report Disclaimer

Glick, the central knopped stems issuing scrolled branches terminating in foliate cast nozzles, the triform bases cast with gryphons and winged paw feet, hung with faceted cut glass pendants, 28cm high, 30cm wide  Condition Report: The candelabra bear the usual minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall consistent with age and use.There is some casting inconsistency to the bases, where there is some slight pitting.A handful of the scrolls suspending pendants are bent, and a handful of pendants have small chips, others are scratched. There is radial movement between elements of stems including the peacock monopodia, which could benefit from being tightened.Overall these are in perfectly presentable condition.28cm high, 30cm wide, the base 12cm on each side. A Regency mahogany and 'plum pudding' mahogany drum library or 'rent' table, circa 1820, in the manner of Gillows, incorporating partridge wood crossbanding, the circular top above eight cedar lined frieze drawers, each with an alphabetic letter above the lion mask handles, on a turned stem and three outswept tapering legs, on brass caps and castors, the underside of one drawer signed 'Curry ** 1821', 76cm high, the top 77cm diameter Provenance: Previously with retailers C. Fredericks and Son, Kensington Church Street, London, 1978. In trying to track down the owner of the signature 'Curry' it is interesting to note that two 'Workmen' by that name are listed as working for Gillows. Robert Curry, upholsterer was listed 1802-4. It is also noted by the firm that Robert Curry's son was to be paid for fifty two weeks work (name and dates unspecified). Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, Overall with a polished appearance, some light surface marks,The interspersed drawers with runners to the centre to aid their use and stability, some with partial fitted interior, there are some marks and ink stains to the interior, There is one key present that operates all the locks, the key handle is weak and the metal has broken through, it is useable but is liable to bending, it will eventually break entirely, a new key may well be able to be sort or a skilled restorer could probably strengthen. This is the purchaser's responsibility and Dreweatts cannot give advice on the ease of this or the costs involved. There is no clear reason to doubt the handles are original, they are polished and worn, The letters appear to have been written to the drawers, they are not inlaid, some are worn and hard to read, The top revolving freely on the baseCondition Report Disclaimer

A pair of Continental clear glass and gilt metal mounted twenty-four light chandeliers in early 19th century taste, loosely of trumpet form, the scroll branches issuing around central circlets, hung with beaded swags and shaped pendants overall, each approximately 150cm high, 142cm diameterPlease note: Only one chandelier from this lot is fully assembled and on view at Donnington Priory. Condition Report: The chandeliers are made of lacquered and pressed sheet metal, and various elements are bent. Including, in the case of the assembled chandelier, some of the sconces and the leaves adorning the circlet. Some drips, drops and beads may be missing or replaced. There are traces of gilding though overall the surface is a little darker. One of the scroll elements to the top has a small hole.The second chandelier is presented unassembled, and has not been inspected fully built. All 24 arms of this example are present, and all 14 foliate scrolls that adorn the corona and circlet are there too. One of these scrolls, to the corona, is missing a roundel. Another has a crack to the centre.All but one of the drip pans are present, however the lot is offered with an assortment of associated drips pans as well as an additional ball terminal (in addition to the ball pendant that goes with the chandelier).Condition Report Disclaimer

Circle of Adolfo Cipriani (Italian, b. 1857), a fine, near life-size Italian sculpted white marble model of a bather, previously a fountain, the maiden portrayed nude and seated on a rocky outcrop, holding a circular dish to the stream that issues from the rock beside her, on a canted rectangular base, 136cm high overall, approximately 53cm wide, 45cm deepCondition Report: The marble bears the usual minor marks, knocks, scuffs and scratches overall consistent with age and use, and there is some light greying to the marble.The surface to the top of the head and tops of thighs is a little granulated, commensurate with the marble at one point having been out of doors. There is also some pitting to the surface due to wear, with small indentations primarily to the hair, neck and arms. The maiden has a shallow circa 1-2cm chip to the left pinky, and a smaller circular shallow area of wear to the hair circa 1cm. There are two chips to the lowermost edge of the base.This sculpture was previously a fountain, and its water fitment was filled with plaster to the rear.Overall this marble is in perfectly presentable condition.Condition Report Disclaimer

The interior fitments are associated, and originally there may have been a fitment to the lowermost portion of these lanterns.Their surface is a variegated verdigris, with areas of loss where the underlying copper is visible as well as some light surface oxidisation particularly to the recesses.The top rims are a little bent in places, though mostly structurally these are in perfectly presentable order.Condition Report Disclaimer

A pair of French gilt bronze, patinated bronze and white marble mounted figural four light candelabra, by Emile Colin & Cie, Paris, late 19th century, in Louis XV taste, each modelled with a draped amorino holding aloft four scrolled candle branches terminating in flowerhead sconces, standing on circular plinths with writhen and imbricated laurel rims, above further square bases on foliate bracket feet, the plinths impressed E. COLIN & CIE PARIS, approximately 51cm highÉmile Colin ran his prolific workshop at 29, rue de Sévigné, Paris, from 1882 until his death in 1899. The foundry produced fine decorative works of art such as the present candelabra, but also cast bronzes for sculptors such as Rozet, Messagé, Germain and Marioton. After Colin's death in 1899, the firm obtained the Grand Prix at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1900.Condition Report: Minor marks, knocks and scuffs overall commensurate with age and use, and the gilding is a little rubbed and slightly spotted mainly to the sconces.Two interior sconce liners are missing. One flowerhead has broken off, though it is sold with the lot.One or two branches are a little bent.Each of the marble bases has a small chip, and some further nibbling.
