Signed by the Constitution Cabinet Bunreacht na hÉireann. Constitution of Ireland. An important copy of the First Printing of De Valera’s new Constitution, approved by referendum in 1938, a special printing on heavy paper, a.e.g., finely bound in full dark green patinated morocco, titled within rules on upper cover, this copy signed on f.f.e.p. by Eamon De Valera and by all ten members of his 1938 cabinet and by the Attorney General (Patrick Lynch), as follows: Seán T. Ó Ceallaigh, Oscar Traynor, Patrick Lynh, P.J. Rutledge, Sean F. Lemass, Séamus Ó Riain, Tomás Ó Deirg, Gearóid Ó Beoláin, Frank Aiken, Seán MacEntee, Patrick J. Little. Dated in another hand at head of page, 10-v-’38. Photographs of that cabinet, and of a later FF Cabinet, laid in. A superb memento of De Valera’s major legacy to the Irish people, which still substantially guides our affairs. There were only a handful of copies prepared with all the signatures, one for each cabinet member, and a very few to favoured members of the diplomatic corps; an unsigned copy went to Áras an Uachtaráin.. No more than two or three signed copies have come to light in recent years. A fine copy, with some mild foxing to signature page and a very little rubbing to base of spine. A true rarity of Irish Politics.

A French folk art landscape of a bizarre 'vertical pole shooting' archery competition, signed and dated 'PHILIPPET 1928' l.l., oil on canvas45.5 x 65cm, unframedVertical pole archery has been a sport in Belgium and Northern France since the Middle Ages - it consists of shooting down dummy parrots with very heavy arrows, 1000 grains and over. This practice came from the 13th century, when archers were trained to shoot parrots (real ones) attached to the top of ships masts, which was thought to prepare them for when they needed to shoot from the bottom to the top of castles and city wall defences. Competitions were organised between cities and archery guilds. Condition ReportCraquelure and surface dirt. Visible stretcher marks. Not examined under UV light.
