Signed in fountain pen ink across a clear area of the image and dated New Theatre, 6th August 1920 in his hand. Some very light, minor age wear, otherwise VG The photograph is signed and dated by Coward at the time he appeared in his own play I`ll Leave It to You, the first West End production of one of his plays. The New Theatre (later the Albery Theatre) was renamed the Noel Coward Theatre in his honour in 2006.

HITCHCOCK ALFRED: (1899-1980) British Film Director. Fountain pen ink signature on the verso of a colour picture postcard depicting a United Airlines Caravelle aircraft in flight. ENSA: An unusual 4to album compiled by ENSA member Frank Raymond containing over 1000 signatures by various actors, actresses and entertainers who performed with the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA) during World War II, including Lilian Braithwaite, Victoria Hopper, Ella Retford, Phyllis Neilson-Terry, Daniel Melsa, Charles Coborn, Eric Winstone, Billy Milton, Peter Brough, Arthur Prince, George Robey, York Bowen, Richard Murdoch and many others. The vast majority of signatures appear in mutiples (many duplicates) on manuscript paper neatly annotated in red ink by Raymond with the place and date of the ENSA performances, most at hospitals between 1940-45. The album also includes various signed photographs (8 x 10 and smaller) lightly laid down at the corners. With decorative paper front cover. Lacking the back cover and spine, some of the binding loose. PERTWEE JON: (1919-1996) English Actor, famous for his role as Doctor Who (1970-74). Series of three T.Ls.S., Jon Pertwee, each one page, 4to, Putney Heath, London, 21st February, 20th April & 5th November 1991, all to Pamela McGill. In the first letter Pertwee announces that he was fascinated to learn that his correspondent has the blue prints of H.M.S. Hood and adds that he would love to have them in his possession, `My agent lives in Liverpool, so would that be very far from you if I asked him to collect them?...What are the dimensions of the plans? I would also be most interested to know how they came into your possession.` In the second letter Pertwee writes to his correspondent asking why she has not responded to his earlier letter, `Was it something I said, or have the plans gone down with all hands like my old ship??` and in the third letter Pertwee again seeks a response from his correspondent regarding the blueprints. Also including a letter from Pertwee`s secretary on the same subject. Together with a signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph by Pertwee showing him in a close-up portrait pose. Signed in blue ink across a light area at the base of the image. Some very slight, minor creasing, generally VG, 4 Pertwee served as a Royal Navy officer and spent some time working in naval intelligence during World War II. He was a crew member of H.M.S. Hood, and was transferred off the ship shortly before she was sunk.

GERSHWIN GEORGE: (1898-1937) American Composer and Pianist. An excellent signed and inscribed printed large 4to copy of the sheet music to the song I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin from the opera Porgy and Bess. The early (possibly a first) edition of the sheet music, published by Gershwin Publishing Corp., New York, features an attractive design to the cover. Signed in bold blue fountain pen ink by Gershwin to a light area at the head of the cover, ‘For Alexander Lindey-with admiration and warm greetings, George Gershwin, July 1936 (check day).’ Dated a year to the month before Gershwin’s untimely death at the age of 39. A light horizontal fold runs across the centre and with a small tear to the right clear border of the cover. A rare example of Gershwin’s autograph on an attractive piece associated with one of his most famous works. About VG Gershwin’s opera Porgy and Bess features the famous songs Summertime and It Ain’t Necessarily So. I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin is sung in Act II, Scene 1.

Book signed and inscribed, a hardback edition of Kiss Me Kate-A Musical Play, by Samuel and Bella Spewack with lyrics by Cole Porter, First Edition published by Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1953. The illustrated volume features the cast list for the original Broadway production. Signed and inscribed to the front free endpaper by Porter in blue ink, `To Richard, All my best, Cole Porter` and also signed and inscribed by Bella Spewack (1899-1990, Romanian-born American Writer with her husband Samuel), `For Richard-good wishes in the New World, Bella Spewack` and dated New York, 5th December 1953 in her hand. ARLEN HAROLD: (1905-1986) American Composer of Popular Music. Arlen composed the score for The Wizard of Oz featuring the classic song Over the Rainbow (1938). Extremely rare A.M.Q.S., Harold Arlen, on a 12mo stiff white card, n.p., n.d. On one side of the card Arlen has penned two bars of music, with words (`Some-where over the Rainbow`) from the song Over the Rainbow. Arlen has signed and inscribed the verso of the card in blue ink, `Mary Virginia, Sincerely, Harold Arlen`. Some very light, extremely minor staining to both sides only very slightly affecting the quotation and signature. About VG Over the Rainbow was voted as the 20th century`s Number One song by the Recording Industry Association of America and also won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1939.
