GEORGE II SILVER COFFEE POT maker Edward Vincent, London 1729, without lion passant mark, the tapering body with domed cover, embossed and chased in the Rococo style with acanthus leaves, c-scrolls and flowers, wooden double scroll handle, engraved 'Presented by Lady Agnes Campbell to the 1st L.R.V 1868', approximately 825g, 23cm high Note: The London assay office, The Goldsmiths' Company Assay Office, have been contacted to discuss this piece and after consulting with their collection it is widely acknowledged that silver from this period can have hallmarks missing but that it is very unusal for the lion passant mark to be omitted. McTear's is informed that this piece could be sent to the Antique Plate Committee (APC) to verify its hallmarks. Although it is unclear why the lion passant mark has been omitted from this piece, its style lead us to catalogue it as such. The rim of the pot has two light shadows that could possibly be the ghosts of original period hallmarks. The piece may later have been embossed in the Victorian period, with replacement hallmarks stamped to the base
