Hermann Hauser I Segovia model guitar, 1924, labelled Herm. Hauser, Lautenmacher in Munchen, signed H. Hauser, A.D. 1924, case *This guitar is one of the first Segovia models made by the famous luthier Hermann Hauser I and is signed with 'manu propria.' This is a very special detail, according to the dynasty's third-generation builder, Hermann Hauser III. Hauser I added the handwritten 'manu propria', which is a Latin expression meaning "by own hand", to the labels of some of the guitars that were very personal to him and were made by himself, without any help from his shop assistant. This guitar is in very good condition and fully playable. The top is made of very fine spruce and is framed by brown and light purflings. The top has only a fine hair-crack beside the fretboard, which does not influence the guitar's sound. There are some professionally repaired cracks on the back of the guitar, one is located just behind the label and has been reinforced with a cleat from the inside. The sound hole is richly decorated with mother of pearl and dark and light rings in between where rectangular and fishbone-like inlays can be found. The one-piece back, as well as the sides, are made of excellent Madagascar rosewood. The guitar is supplied with a certificate of origin from Hermann Hauser III which reads "This certified Hermann Hauser I guitar built in 1924 m.p. is one of the first Segovia models ever built. The spruce top which has its origin from Bavarian Alps came from the stock of his father Josef Hauser. At the time of manufacture the spruce top was then stopped for about forty years. Back and sides are made of Rio-Madagascar/Africa and was stopped at that time for around five years. The varnish is of Shelleck. Signed Hermann Hauser III, Reisbach, 12.5.2014" This Hermann Hauser I Segovia model is in performance-ready condition. Playability is ideal for both right and left hands. A truly remarkable and rare instrument from one the most important luthiers.
