With ivory/cream dial, with sweep seconds hand & date aperture, pie-pan bezel & original Rolex crown. Stainless steel Jubilee strap No.62510 H. Diameter 35mm. In original rectangular presentation box with brown 'seal tag'. Note: This watch was bequeathed to our vendor from a relative. The relative removed the original strap, which has been lost. The current strap was purchased by our vendor in 2001 to replace the lost original. (Receipt, dated for strap & Rolex grey strap pouch. Both hands & the seconds hand have signs of light rust. Between 4 and 5 o'clock, there is a noticeable area of loss to the dial. Using a loupe, you can also see a fine hairline crack either side of the area of loss. The back of the watch has several noticeable shallow dents & dings, & appears to be a twist-off opening, but we are unable to remove this to comment on the movement & the inside of the watch. Also, there are spare links, etc., retained after bracelet was reduced in size.

Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Penny, Expanding Cross type, Heavy issue, Wallingford, Beorhtwine, brihtpine on pali, 1.60g/6h (Freeman –; N 823; S 1177). Better than very fine, dark patina with some light oxidisation; the moneyer extremely rare at Wallingford in this type £400-£500 --- Provenance: From the City of London (Walbrook) hoard, c. 1872; R.C. Lockett Collection, Glendining Auction 6-9 June 1955, lot 818 (part); Royal Berkshire Collection (from Spink, 1966) Willet’s listing of the City of London (Walbrook) hoard, found c. 1872, noted two Expanding Cross Pennies struck by Beorhtwine at Wallingford. One of these was acquired by R.C. Lockett and is recorded in his purchases records. The coin is not readily recognisable in the relevant auction catalogues but was contained in lot 818, with that lot number being noted alongside the coin in the purchase records. As Hugh Pagan has discussed in a BNS Blog Post (17/02/2019), the description for lot 818 is erroneous, probably due to a printing error. Lot 818 was purchased by Spink, from whom the present coin was purchased.
