Attributed to John Warwick Smith, (British 1749-1831) "Shepherd in rural landscape" Painted depicting a shepherd and flock before a stone arch way and rural plains, unsigned, 48x59cms, oil on canvas, framed. CONDITION REPORT: Painting has undergone some restoration and appears to have been relined and cleaned. Under ultra violet light, the lower section fluoresces green only, indicating only small amounts of the original natural varnish remains. It appears the painting has been revarnished. Small area of overpaint to the sky area. Overall restoration, however appears to be sympathetic.
Edgar Bundy A.R.A. (British 1862-1922) 'The Lesson' Painted with fisherman and children before a shore, 45cm x 34cm, oil on canvas, signed lower left corner, framed and glazed. CONDITION REPORT: The painting appears to be in good condition. It does not appear to have been re-lined, although verso of painting shows extensive surface dirt. No signs of holes or tears. Crazing visible to paint layer. When the painting is viewed under ultra-violet light there is varying fluorescence, some areas fluoresce green indicating the presence of a natural resin varnish, and some areas fluoresce purple indicating a modern synthetic varnish. I believe the painting has been re-varnished in the last 10 to 20 years. There are no signs of overpainting.
