An early 19th century Spode part tea and coffee set, circa 1820, comprising 8 coffee cans and 4 tea cups, all with London shape handles and 7 saucers and a small rectangular tray, each with underglaze blue printed and enamel decoration, pattern number 2638, factory marks to the underside. CONDITION REPORT: One coffee can has a crack across the handle just beneath the spur but the body is in good order. One cup has a 5 mm firing crack where the handle joins the body but is otherwise in good order. One coffee can has a 1.5 cm x 5 mm L shape crack issuing from the rim down the side which joins the handle but is otherwise good. One coffee cup has a very fine brown stained crack in the bottom of the cup approx 8 mm in length but otherwise in good order. One coffee cup has a 4 cm long hairline crack issuing from the middle of the rim but is otherwise in good order. 3 coffee cups appear to be in good order with no obvious faults. One teacup has a crack running across the bottom strut of the handle but is otherwise good. Another teacup has a small amount of pitting to the interior of the cup but is otherwise in good order. The two remaining teacups are in good order with no obvious faults visible. One saucer has a small 4 mm firing crack of the interior of the rim but it does not show through on the outer side. All remaining saucers appear to be in good order with only very minor light surface scratches. The sauce boat stand is free from any chips, cracks or obvious restorations however the red printed pattern has been slightly rubbed where the tureen stand has stood on it but otherwise is in good order. The majority of items all ring out nicely when lightly tapped
Two Chinese Canton miniature teapots, 19th century, one with domed lid and decorated with figures and verso butterflies amongst flowers, the other with a panel of figures and verso a bird alighting a flowering branch, and a Canton cylindrical brush pot. Smallest height 6 cm, tallest 12 cm. CONDITION REPORT: There are two small grazes to the interior rim of the smallest teapot but these do not appear to be chips and appear to have been done in manufacture. The gilding around the rim is 95% erased. Overall the body appears to be in good order with no obvious chips, cracks or restorations. The teapot lid has a small pinhead air bubble blister to the knop however this has been produced in manufacture. Otherwise it is in good order albeit with some light rubbing to the gilt rims. The larger of the two teapots has 30% rubbing to the gilding on the spout rim and 50% gilt rubbing to the rim of the teapot. The enamels and decorations appear to be in good order with no losses or flaking. The teapot body appears to be in good order with no obvious chips, cracks or faults. The teapot cover is in generally good order albeit there is some rubbing to the red paint on the rim and a small piece of rubbing to the knop but otherwise the body is good. The brush pot has lost 30% of its gilding to the rim. There are no obvious chips, cracks or restorations. The painted enamel decoration appears to be all intact with no obvious losses.
A large pair of decorative Chinese vases, 20th century, with relief moulded mirror image panels of two Manchurian cranes standing on a pine tree branch against a light sage green ground and with moulded dragon handles. Height 117 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both vases are generally in good decorative order throughout there are however some chips to one foot rim but these are not detrimental to the overall look. There are no obvious chips, cracks or signs of restoration visible. They are a decorative pair of tall vases which we would date to post 1960.
A set of eight (6+2) Hepplewhite style mahogany shield back dining chairs, each with a Prince of Wales plume of feathers to the centre above a drape garland and with stuffover horsehair filled seats, all upon square tapering channelled legs terminating in spade feet. 96 cm high (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: All eight chairs are in very good structural condition. There are no loose joints. We can see no evidence of any repairs or restoration. There is no damage to any of the shield backs. The upholstery is generally serviceable and in good order with no holes or significant staining. Some of the light blue braiding is a little loose.
A bronze table lamp base in the form of a kneeling Egyptian figure, early 20th century, on a raised rectangular base decorated with hieroglyphics, and a 19th century Empire style bronze and gilt metal table light (converted to electricity), the stem decorated with three muses on a stepped gilt metal base in turn above a column on wood stand. 33.5 cm and 35 cm respectively.
An Ercol light elm drop leaf dining table, having a well figured top with elliptical drop leaves, all supported upon square tapering legs. 125 cm wide (leaves open), 61 cm wide (leaves closed), 71 cm high, 113 cm deep. CONDITION REPORT: The table is in generally very good condition. There are no significant stains or marks to the top. The leaves are not warped. The support mechanism for the leaf operates as it should. There are no repairs and no restoration. The table is structurally sound.
A Sevres style porcelain jardiniere, with branch style handles with foliate terminals and gilt framed panels of rural buildings interspersed by floral sprays, all upon a circular foot, with interlaced L marks to the underside, height 11 cm, and a Czech cabinet cup and saucer with two side plates with printed floral spray decoration against a pink ground with gilt borders. CONDITION REPORT: On the jardiniere there is a very fine 3 mm long chip to the rim directly above the decoration of the dwelling and there is some light rubbing to the gilding on the rim. There is a band of dirt running around 60% of the interior rim +/- 1.5 cm in depth, darker in some places than others. The jardinière rings out nicely. There are some yellow stains which do appear to deteriorate when washed. The foot rim is free of any chips as are the handles. The decoration and enamels appear good throughout. The small cabinet cup, saucer and side plates within the same lot - the underside of the cup foot rim has a 4 mm firing crack, otherwise the cup appears to be free from any post production faults or flaws and rings out nicely. The two saucers and side plates have gilding rubs to the rims but appear to be free from any chips, cracks or restorations. All ring out nicely when lightly tapped. Cache pot height 11 cm, interior diameter 10 cm and extreme diameter including handles 14 cm.
A Longwy French Faience box and cover, early 20th century, decorated with bird alighting a blossoming branch against a blue ground, the remainder decorated with bright floral sprays against a dark and light blue ground, printed marks to the underside, pattern No. 5779. 11 cm diameter. CONDITION REPORT: Both pieces appear to be free from any major chips or obvious cracks, however the interior glaze on both is in credibly crazed throughout. The lid does have a very fine 1 cm hairline crack. Generally all intact, however the crazing is extreme.
A pair of hollow cast greyhounds, each seated upon their haunches in alert pose, all upon a square base. Height 78 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The figures are made from some sort of hollow cast resin to simulate metal. They are quite light in weight and are fairly easily picked up by the muzzle individually in one hand.
After Coustou, a pair of bronze Marley horses, 19th century, height 28 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Generally in good order throughout with no obvious losses or faults visible. Both are a uniform colour throughout with slight rubbing to the horses chests and only light surface marks to both commensurate with age. A nice modelled pair.
A good Victorian light oak table top stationery cabinet / writing slope, late 19th century, the top with metal shield shape medallion, opening to reveal a fitted interior with fold out writing surface and interior fitted for pens, ink, stationery, the underside of the lid with pens, 35.5 cm wide, 22.5 cm high, 18.5 cm deep.
A Continental 18 ct gold ring, set with a band of square sapphires, size L/M. CONDITION REPORT: The ring is in good structural order. There are no significant issues. The stones are not loose in their mounts. There are no significant chips or marks only very light surface scratches. We are not sure as to the age of the ring but would have thought in the region of 40 years.
A pair of Edwardian inlaid mahogany bedside cabinets, each with rear upstand and with single door with brass drop handle and raised on tapered legs terminating in castors. Width 40.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Both cabinets are structurally sound with no series condition issues. The tops both have light surface marks and scratches but no real issues. The sides of both cabinets are in good order. The doors are not warped and close as they should. All legs are in good condition and have the original castors.
A Mordan & Co. 18 ct gold propelling pencil, London 1911, with engine turned decoration. Length 9.5 cm, 13 grams gross. CONDITION REPORT: Generally in nice condition throughout, however there is a small indent notable when shone in the light, but this disappears when viewed under a jewellers loupe. The mechanics work as they should. The hallmarks are good and clear.
